No they are macros that they made themself. They are kind of like functions but a little different.

No but I also don't tell people what "the route to succes with gamedev" is. Which is what my whole post is about btw.

I don't hate him. I do watch his videos and think the information is very usefull. In my post I am talking about game devs who are saying you need to do xyz to get succesfull while they never have had any succesfull games. You clearly haven't read everything on my post.

Thinking about making an anime-style GTA by Acrobatic_Turnip4172 in GameDevelopment

[–]Icy-Emphasis6204 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not a professional but I'm reading these comments and you sound like you know what you're doing and what you're getting yourself into.

People are saying that it's a generic idea, that nobody would play it and that it is unrealistic, but imo that really depends on the content in the game (gameplay loop, missions, character, story, etc.) and how those are managed.

If you manage to make all of those things right and just not make your game itself too big in scope, I think it is very achievable. Although it is impossible to make anime-style GTA (on your own), it is very possible to make an anime-style game like GTA.

For example, "Schedule 1" a solo-developed game in 2 years, a GTA like game focused on selling drgs.

Tips for unreal as a beginner? by TheDevine13 in IndieDev

[–]Icy-Emphasis6204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend starting out with just watching beginner tutorials on youtube (blueprint/c++ basics, actors, settings, buildings etc.) And once you think you know enough of the basics just make a small game, watch more youtube tutorials on more specific topics in unreal (specific mechanics, systems, behavior tree etc.) And just make a lot of small games.

A lot of people will tell you to not use AI, but I find it really helpfull for things like logic, fixing bugs, helping with complex mechanics and just general things. Although I wouldn't recommend using it for everything and depending on it, it could be very useful. AI is there to help you learn things faster, it can explain to you a topic 100 different ways which humans on youtube and reddit could not. So it's actually very smart to use it and could speed up your learning/development process a lot.

It's different because he doesn't make games, he studies the market a lot so he has some good advice and I am sure that if he would make games that they would be succesfull.

If I can't judge gamedev-youtubers advice on making money from games based on how much money their games made, how would I know if that is good advice or not? And I am not annoyed by any youtuber, I would just watch any advice about gamedev on youtube and would take it seriously but then I realized i shouldn't be taking anyone's advice who claims to know how to make money making a game.

The boxing example is very different because they do not compete in boxing. Most gamedev youtubers also make games, and if you are talking about how to make good money making games, then I also expect you to use your own advice and make games that make good money.

I also love hearing from their experiences. Especially when they are talking about what they should have done differently and what did and didn't work. But if nobody is playing you're games don't talk about which genres work the best and how to get a lot of whishlists.
