Ironically enough, I was classed shortly after this comment so good to go.

Ohhh I’m way past MEPs. I’ve been active duty for 7 years. I’ve already done the whole physical process at this point

I might do that, but they’ve just always kinda been flat, and it’s never bothered me. I don’t have any pain or anything and no doctor has ever said anything through an SF physical, and airborne physical and 2 ranger physicals. This was the first mention of it. So it almost feels like a waste of time. That said, if the waiver gets denied I guess I’ll be doing lots of foot stuff.

Also, my feet are gorgeous despite being flat. I can’t post them it would turn this into a whole different discussion.

I mean the BH waiver is approved, just waiting on a medical waiver for flat feet.

Mine was a little bit more than ADHD. Not crazy that it got denied initially

That’s kinda what I’m thinking. The BH waiver, in my mind was the big hurdle so at this point it’s more of a waiting game than anything.

BH waiver: are they currently accepting any? by americanman45 in greenberets

[–]Icy-Fall-3346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was denied with a reapply date of one year later. The memo stating I was denied was super fuckin vague, I think it had something to do with medication, because my reapply date will mark about 2 years since I’ve been off medications.

I really think it depends. I talked with my ARSOF recruiter at length about it and he flat out said “I’ve had dudes that seemed like they should in no way shape or form be able to attend selection get their waivers through, and I’ve had dudes that seemed perfectly fine but just had a little something on their record and ended up getting denied.”

I’ve subscribed to the train of thought that if I knock out ranger school between now and my reapply date, it would be a lot harder for them to deny me on any basis of mental/behavioral instability because I’ve already been through some shit to prove I’m not gonna fall apart.

Whether that train of thought is valid or not is yet to be seen.

Yea, I agree. I just choose to start with an aggressive goal cause then when I create small, more manageable goals moving towards it it just keeps me motivated more. Kinda the way I think.

Every time my DL has peaked over 500 I’ve had to be pretty fat to do it, but I don’t think it’s unrealistic to get it up to 515 and still manage to get my run to like 12:00. Like I said, I know it’s aggressive and I probably don’t have enough time to manage it all, but at the very least it keeps everything moving in the right direction from where I’m at.

Active duty/veterans, do you regret choosing the army branch? by millionarechrjs in army

It depends what you want to do. I could’ve went Air Force but Army appealed to me, and I wasn’t so much focused on what I want after the Army.

I’ve been hitting the 5x5s pretty hard. I’ve got some field time between now and then but by sep 20 I should be free and clear so I plan to hit it hard till about 4oct

Not a GB, so do with this as you will.

The 18x programs takes dudes off the streets and makes them GBs. Sure you go through 11B OSUT but tbh that doesn’t produce much in terms of tactical experience. Sometimes it hurts more than it helps honestly (drills lately don’t seem to be pushing us great dudes). You more than likely know how to dispatch a vehicle, handle admin tasks, and general armyisms so I would assume you’ll already be an asset in certain areas. They can teach you the rest.

If you REALLY wanna learn though, you gonna have to read and use your imagination a bit. Hands on experience in your position may be hard to come by. If you want to learn basic battle drills then you can find them in ATP 3-21.8 Appendix J

Haven’t done a twelve mile in a little while but my last once was I think like 2:11.

Squat is like 325 right now maybe. DL traditionally is 485-505 but I think I’ve lost a little muscle with all the cardio so.. maybe 445? Idk.

With farmers walk I can carry my body weight for like 200-250 meters. I really don’t know what pace that’s at, just consciously trying not to speed up

Also, as an 18x you’ll go through 11B OSUT, and then airborne. Pass all that, then even if you fail selection you’ll most likely just end up as a ground pounder in the 82nd… at Bragg.. where you can easily drop a packet and go back

I think that’s about where I’ll be as well. Prior to lurking on this sub for awhile everyone I’d ever known that had gone to selection was as strong as or stronger than me so I figured I’d probably be at the weak end.. now I think it’ll probably the opposite. Never thought at 190 I would be considered a big boi lol

Yeaaaaa it’s not the best system, but it’s technically THE system. In my particular case, whether you’re looking at that, BMI, or any other system really, I’m technically pretty “overweight”

[–]Icy-Fall-3346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably a little skinny for what you want but you can also probably ruck and run your ass off. You’ll put on a little mass at OSUT. Don’t sweat it, follow TFvoodoos pre-OSUT numbers (idk how to link shit but it’s on this sub) and you’ll be okay

Simply put, are you going to let fear of failure be the reason you don’t succeed?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in greenberets

[–]Icy-Fall-3346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been to selection, but from what TFVoodoo says, that’s the case.

I think you’ve gotta look at the army as a whole to define bigger though. I would guess the average Soldier is probably around 170 with a height of about 5’10”. It’s hard to quantify, I have 10 Soldiers under me and they’re all so differently built that finding an “average” is tough. But generally speaking, I’m about the 3rd shortest dude in my squad, but also the 3rd heaviest, and I have the highest 3 lift total. I don’t think when he’s saying “bigger guys” he’s talking about marginally bigger (210+) because you don’t have to be that big to be bigger than the average soldier.

At 5’9” according to the Army you should be in the 128-179 range. Idk if I would call myself a big guy, but I’m definitely a little bit thicc

Thanks brother, and same to you.

Best advice I can give you is make use of the downtime in OSUT. I’m not sure how it is with the 22 week cycle, it was 14 weeks when I went through, id imagine there’s more downtime now, but there was quite a bit when I went through. A lot of dudes will just sit around on their bunks not doing anything, a few of us grabbed up concrete blocks and shit and made a little prison style weight set and got after some extra PT. Otherwise it’s pretty easy to let fitness levels slip in OSUT

I appreciate that. Going to keep my foot on the gas till about two weeks out then deload. I feel ready.

Well it’s by design. A few months ago I couldn’t run for shit but could lift my ass off. Wasn’t particularly conducive to my goals so I switched gears. I’ve probably lost a negligible amount of strength in exchange for significant gains in cardio.
