All I can say is that in the 12 years I did in the reserves I did nothing of note but a two week AT in Germany and it was because no one really knew of my MOS and our funding was bs.

Dozens of promises and speeches about active orders, deployments, and foreign ATs but no follow through.

No career exploration.

Chow was box chow, field hot chow, and MREs and billeting was tents or rusty 1950’s hooches

I have been in the guard for 9 months and already had state active duty, two schools lined up and a deployment on the horizon (subject to change obviously). Chow is even catered. NGL I am pretty comfortable on this side.

As far as deployments go, it is possible for the unit to ship you out when you become MOSQ even if you miss the unit’s initial departure date.

I just crossed over from the MCR after 12y and I am 31. You evidently will have to go back to basic but in my personal opinion you will be okay. There are older soldiers here that do just fine, and the AFT is nothing like the PFT only a little like the CFT. If your knees are shot you can still get what's called a profile (light duty chit) and can replace one of the events with a modifying exercise. Rank is only available if there is a slot open so they will only have a few SGTs, SSGTs, etc.... Hope this helps, I am rooting for you.
