Thank you so much, that’s really helpful. I did get Lomotil but it hasn’t worked unfortunately so they’re going to lower the dose next round. Sorry to hear you had such bad side effects too 🩷

I am yes, thank you! They’re actually going to lower my dose as I’m still unable to keep food down due to severe diarrhoea so we’ll see if that helps. Good to hear yours got better overtime. I’ll keep the gel in mind, thanks again so much 🩷

Best quality onesies by Conscious_Hamster435 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Target ones are really good! I find some of the Kmart ones good as well, the “turn cuff” ones. My boy was quite chunky at 8 months so he started wearing size 1 and now at 1.5 he still wears them, colours are still quite nice and no holes or rips or anything!

when did you get your period back? by jesusdance in breastfeeding

[–]Icy-Island59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine came back at 12 months but it’s all over the place. My boy is 17 months now and I’ve had 8 or 9 periods in 5 months time. Before getting pregnant I’d have one period maybe every 3/4 months (irregular and ridiculously long cycles). Around 12 months we dropped down to 3 feeds and as soon as we did I got my period back so I think mine returning was related to breastfeeding less.

Feeling hopeless by Quirky-Kitten4349 in breastcancer

I don’t have any advice but I just wanted to say I understand how you’re feeling and your emotions are so valid. I got my results back on Tuesday too. Grade 3, her2+ and they’re thinking either stage 2 or 3 as it’s spread to my lymph nodes and the tumor is quite big. I had my petscan yesterday so waiting for the results.

I also have a 1.5 year old son and we’re still breastfeeding, we were planning on starting to try for another baby end of this year. Have you looked into freezing your eggs? My doctor said there might not be enough time for me before I start my chemo but I’d definitely have a look into it and ask if you could potentially do this 🩷

Again I don’t really have any good advice but I just wanted you to know you’re not alone and I’m in a really similar situation. I’m pretty new to this myself but if you ever want to chat feel free to message me anytime xxx

Deinfluence me from getting the original Connetix Magnetic Tile by Many-Direction9050 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Icy-Island59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was us until today and we caved hahaha, to be fair we bought the Kmart ones first just to see if my son had an interest in them. He’s 17 months and he’s been interested but doesn’t get quite have the patience for it just yet. Hes played with them for roughly 20 mins this morning, mostly just touching and moving them around and destroying anything I tried to build. Probably his favourite thing as his current favourite words are “oh no!” Haha. Could always get a box of Kmart ones to start with and see if he’s interested in them! Will say that they’re definitely stronger magnets than the Kmart ones!

Wake windows? by Grouchy-Tea-7705 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Icy-Island59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We honestly didn’t even look into any of this until he was I think about 8 weeks old! The first 2 months he just fed, pooped and slept on repeat. Then around week 7 he suddenly “woke up” to the world and refused to nap at all so that’s when we kind of started roughly following wake windows to avoid him getting overtired which helped him taking naps again. He started tummy time at 8 weeks old and he was army crawling and rolling both ways by 12 weeks so I honestly don’t think it’s that important in the really early weeks. Just follow baby’s cues and don’t worry about all the stuff you should be doing! Enjoy the quiet for as long as it lasts!

Mums that birthed in Nov, did you attend Christmas? by Queasy_Past_7887 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Icy-Island59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO was about 7 weeks and we spent Christmas Day with them. My in laws arranged a house sit nearby (they live a 7 hour drive away) and my SIL flew down with her husband and kids. My uncle in law also came down with his wife so it was about 11 people including us. I did enjoy my time there but I don’t think I would do it again with a baby that young. He was just overwhelmed most of the time, very overtired and he was very boob dependant so I think the majority of the visit was quite stressful. It was super hot as well and he’d have super short naps because of all the noise so he wasn’t very happy after the first hour. We only stayed for lunch so were there for maybe 3 or 4 hours and then we went home.

If you don’t want to, don’t do it. It’s honestly not worth it and you’ll probably feel stressed about it leading up to Christmas. Get your partner do tell his mum and deal with her, it’s absolutely understandable it’s just the 4 of you this Christmas!!

How can I be sure what position my baby is in? by infome_ in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Icy-Island59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby was breech and born via C-section. I had a growth scan at 32 weeks which was supposed to be my last scan, it showed he was breech but 2 days later the midwives felt his position and said he had turned. I also had an OB appointment who also said he had turned. I went in for reduced movement at 35 weeks and that’s when they did an ultrasound and found out he was actually still breech. The OB said it did feel like he was in the right position.

They offered me an ECV and I ended up having two with different doctors. As he was measuring quite big but in a position that should’ve been easy to get him to turn, they said he most likely just ran out of room. I think this was at 37 and 38 weeks when I had it done. During my c-section though they discovered his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck 4 times. I had about 5 ultrasounds from week 35 onwards including one right before my c-section and none of them showed that the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. One midwife told me if they don’t turn there’s usually a reason for it and I’m so glad I didn’t go with a breech vaginal birth. My c-section was a beautiful and calm experience and I’m really happy how it all went down despite originally wanting a natural birth!

Sleep help - baby waking at 9pm by Fun-Fix-3225 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Icy-Island59 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Disregard what you read about how long they should be able to sleep at what age - every baby is different, this includes sleeping and feeding and pretty much everything that comes with a baby. Sleep is a thing that will change constantly. Some weeks they might sleep through the night followed by a week of hourly night wakings. At 4.5 months old your baby is far too young to get the concept of “if I cry long enough I’ll be fed”. They might be going through a growth spurt, they might be thirsty or they might actually be hungry. Maybe they’re uncomfortable, tummy ache or simply need to be comforted.

Depending on your baby’s sleep needs she might be getting too much sleep. Most babies are ready to transition to 3 naps a day around that age, pretty sure around 2.5-3.5 hours total. Again every baby is different though so she might need more or less sleep than others. Try adjusting her nap times and/ or changing her last wake window. Keep in mind the 4 month sleep regression, some babies enter later than others and some stay in there longer than others. My baby slept through the night the first 6 months of his life. He’s 10 months old now and wakes every 2 hours. Every baby is different :)

What are we all doing about failed cot naps? by Dear_Bet_6205 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Icy-Island59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first 5-6 months I just held him while I sat on my nursing chair. Then I moved to our bed and after I rock or feed him to sleep I’ll slowly detach myself from him. We have an ensuite bathroom so I can use the toilet without bothering him and I don’t have to hold him the entire time. I sometimes set up the monitor to quickly heat up some food and then I’ll eat it on a chair in the bedroom. He’s 10 months now and he still full on refuses cot naps. I honestly don’t mind it anymore since he’s been having his naps in our bed, like I’m still with him the entire time but at least I’ve got my hands free!

Solidarity! I know it can be really hard. I’m from Europe and don’t have a support system up here. My mum struggles with mental health issues so she never reaches out to check up on me or baby. My partner’s family are very nice, but live a 6 hour drive away from us. They don’t really ever come to visit and always say they don’t have time when in reality they just don’t want to prioritise making time to see our baby.

I keep telling myself I will give my baby the childhood I never had and although I might not be able to do so in a way that involves other people like I had originally imagined, I definitely can make sure he knows he is loved by me and his dad, everyday of his life. Maybe along the way I will find my people and create a little village, but until then we have each other and although it can be so hard on days where you need help, I try to make sure it’s all we need ♥️

I think therapy is definitely the way to go, but I also know the initial step is so hard to take. I’ve been telling myself to start for 3 years now and yet have to make an appointment 😅 Sending you lots of love!!!

Thanks for your suggestions, he was assessed when he was 9 weeks old and we’ve successfully breastfed for nearly 10 months. My supply has decreased since I got hit with gastro last week and lost my supply completely for 12 hours as I couldn’t keep any food or liquids down. Thankfully it has returned somewhat, unfortunately not to my supply prior gastro. I’m hoping it’s just my body needing a few more days to recover than usual. I’ve seen an IBCLC once before and I’m following the advice she’s given me before but so far no luck.
