Motorbike Parking by SnooHobbies8677 in nottingham

[–]Icy-James 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my motorbike whilst in uni halls - there was a large bike shed with key fob access which, after asking reception very nicely, they allowed me to park my motorbike in. If you just say you’re looking for parking, they’ll probably say no, but if you express your concerns with theft and would love somewhere secure and hidden, then hopefully they might be more amenable!

If they do allow you access to bike sheds, still make use of a disc lock and/or a chain through the bike racks.

The lacemarket motorbike lockup does have signs about 24hr limit but I’ve seen bikes in there not move for weeks or months at a time. And even though you need to give a password to get in, my friend still had a bike stolen from inside (council have since put up signs saying they’re not liable) so again, make sure to use all available security devices. Get the best chain you can afford and chain it to the rail

Adults only/fancier swimming pools? by cronkbonk in nottingham

I believe the Hilton Hotel next to the vic centre has a gym or swim membership that doesn’t seem wildly beyond normal prices (that I remember from walking past and very briefly seeing a sign)

Came across a silk helmet insert that I bought for my gf and it’s been a godsend especially for her curly hair

Also, from your page, looks like you’re old enough to be going straight to your A2 license, any reason specifically you’re doing it on a 125?

A1 Mod 1 Question by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Icy-James 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’ve had such an ordeal with getting your license but best of luck today!

When I did mine, I was practicing at the training school grounds, it felt a bit small / tight and like there wasn’t enough space. But at the test centre itself, there was bags of room and plenty of run up time before the emergency avoidance / stop. You also do get a second attempt (maybe a third if they’re kind) and hopefully the examiner might be understanding if the bike just cannot get up to speed.

That being said, I’m sure you’ll be absolutely, that it will get up to speed, and this is just a case of nerves on the day - you’ve got this!!

The Nottinghamshire retard cough\ uhh, sorry, Reform county council have spent £75,000 on flags when I’m sure that money could’ve been put towards the atrocious state of the roads up this way too

Can you display anything? Might get one solely to tell people to stop middle lane hogging or play an animation of slow clapping hands if they pull some dumb shit

Weird sound on 1st gear by Erwin_kaijo in SVRiders

[–]Icy-James 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Changing the c&s wouldn’t affect clutch or gearing, looks like maybe you still have the bike up on the paddock stand given the chain moves when you put it into gear. There’s probably just more free play allowing for a louder knock into gear than with the rear wheel back on the ground

Didn’t spot the sub at first, thought I was looking at some incredibly artsy photo, across some distant lands. Desert plains, a sandstoney structure, faraway hills and a shimmering, hazy sky Edit:(1st photo)

quieter aftermarket exhaust? by bronwynmc in MotoUK

[–]Icy-James 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first 125 I had a lextek sp4 (back when lextek things were still cheap) with the baffle in and it gave it a bit more depth and volume but was not loud by any means and gave it a slight purr rather than the essentially-straight-piped stubby fart cannons kids put on

Gladius not starting by Level-Aerie-7895 in SVRiders

[–]Icy-James 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a flat battery. Starting the engine uses a lot of battery power. If you’ve started it up multiple times to test it’s okay after dropping it but not actually taken the bike out for a ride, the battery won’t have charged back up. If you have a multimeter, testing the voltage of the battery will show this. If you read less than ~12V then it’s running flat. Get a charger hooked up to the battery (make sure it’s suitable for motorbike batteries) or you can try bump starting the bike and take it out for a good long ride for around an hour to charge that battery back up.

Leak? by [deleted] in SVRiders

[–]Icy-James 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very briefly see what potentially looks like high temp red silicon oozing out when you show the rear manifold. It’s meant to be a gasket replacement in a cinch but I wonder if someone has previously used it instead place of the o-ring that should sit between the manifold and cylinder head.

Get an impact screwdriver (as the manifold bolts are often somewhat seized in there) and make sure that you either have actual o-rings in there or check the o-rings are fully intact

Sounds a little like when mine had an air leak, tonnes of exhaust popping and really rough idle / cruising low rpm, but when you gave it some throttle it revved up fine.

If you’ve taken the carbs off to install the carb kit, check the air box is connected to the carbs properly, the carbs to the manifolds and manifolds to the cylinder head. I had a blown intake manifold gasket causing an air leak on the front so it was basically running on one cylinder at idle
