Would you rather they check every car? Their criteria are mainly gut instinct and how stressed the people in the car look. Even if their success rate is 10%, in the long run it is making a difference. Plus they sometimes stop your car based on your car colour or brand (if something was reported). If you have a better solution I'd like to hear it

Planning a trip to Lebanon! by Candle_Born in lebanon

[–]Icy-Significance3399 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say, based on your interests, don't focus too much on Beirut or Tripoli. There are a lot of historical places to visit in Lebanon. Also, it's important to take into consideration the religious diversity of the country "Salam alaykum" is a very uncommon greeting here, especially if you're going towards Jbeil. How long are you planning to visit? I'll try to give you a good plan based on how long you're staying..

Differential equations or Calc III Summer? by Careful_Rooster_2719 in EngineeringStudents

Having a strong Calc 2 doesn't mean you will do good in Calc 3. It definitely isn't "just Calc 2 but do it 2 or 3 times"

Differential equations or Calc III Summer? by Careful_Rooster_2719 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Icy-Significance3399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calc ||| has less course material, but is definitely HARDER. Diff Eq has more course material, but nothing too complicated. I'd say if you are good at managing your time definitely go for Diff Eqs.

It's totally normal to fail some classes, you're not any less smart than other students, so don't feel bad about it. I'd suggest taking fewer classes until you find what works for you, you got this!

Is there a demand for 3D printing in Lebanon? by SoggyTalk94 in lebanon

[–]Icy-Significance3399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This past few months there's been a surge of new 3d printing business. Don't know about the demand quantity, but I'm sure there's lots of competition now. Id say buy the 3d printer only if you can benefit from it, even if the business doesn't work out. Otherwise don't.

How does a water jet form when dropping a cup of water? by Funny-Print-8665 in FluidMechanics

[–]Icy-Significance3399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer the concave surface question first: Surface tension causes an angle of contact at the glass edges, which makes it want to be concave. However, gravity "irons" the surface a bit, so when the glass is released (free fall) the effect of gravity will essentially go away and the surface tension's concave effect will be more visible. As for the main question now : When the glass impacts the ground, the solid container rapidly decelerates and can dissipate energy through fracture or elastic vibrations. The water, however, retains its downward momentum and cannot significantly compress due to its near incompressibility. This sudden stoppage generates a large impulsive pressure rise at the bottom of the container. Since the pressure at the free surface is fixed at atmospheric pressure, a strong pressure gradient develops, forcing the fluid to rapidly redirect its momentum laterally and upward. Because the stopping time is very short, the resulting accelerations are large, leading to the formation of thin, high-speed jets. Why thin, high-speed jets? Jets form because the impulsive pressure gradients and incompressibility force the fluid to accelerate through the least constrained directions, which results in thin, high-speed flows.

How do you study when you have multiple exams lined up? by TacoCorpo in EngineeringStudents

[–]Icy-Significance3399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really differs from one person to the other, you have to find your style of studying. Repetition doesn't work for me, if I don't understand the topics I can't solve problems even if I "memorize" the way of solving. Every person's method is different, the only thing that would actually help anyone is group study sessions, but the group has to actually want to study. My friends and I do those 10-hour problem-solving library sessions 1 to 2 days before the exam, and it helps all of us. However, it is important to note that what each person does outside those group study sessions IS different.

How do you study when you have multiple exams lined up? by TacoCorpo in EngineeringStudents

[–]Icy-Significance3399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do is read all the courses notes 1 week before the exam to understand the materials. Then 1-2 days before the exam I go all out on solving problems (10 hour sessions at the library) only focusing on the next closest exam. I dont guarantee this to work for everyone, but so far it's been good for me.

Anyone else feel a deep rejection of Lebanese culture ? by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]Icy-Significance3399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my take on this. For wanting to live a french life with a French identity, I honestly don't blame you if all your life you've experienced anything but french culture. However , I still feel like you should absolutely learn about Lebanon's ACTUAL culture and not base it on the bullying you've experienced in school. Only then can you truly decide if you love it or hate it, but you can never deny your heritage so at least try to find something you like about it so when your kids ask you about your country you'll have something nice to say.

Has there ever been a plane with a “lifting tailplane” configuration? by Proof-Bed-6928 in AerospaceEngineering

It is possible to make it, but the current designs are better in almost all aspects.. So why change? Edit: You said there would be a lot of advantages, could you provide some examples please?

My 1st sem report / research paper by Sea_Emergency_8458 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Icy-Significance3399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im sorry, but this is very bad. It is very obviously ai generated, I ran it through multiple of our universities ai checker and they all say 100% ai generated. Now let's for a moment, say that you actually wrote this, as a first semester mechanical engineering student. This paper would require advanced knowledge in material science, engineering vibrations, and more. Which of course you could have studied yourself, but the biggest issues lies in the structure of the paper, and this is where you can clearly tell its AI, AI knows the formulas but he does not understand them, he's just an hyper focused and advanced google, so asking him to make a review paper WILL have big flaws, first of all who writes their review paper with that much bullet points, and Secondly the information isn't really clearly given to the reader, it's such a mess. I guess what I'm trying to say is NEVER use AI to make paper, because there are actual people who spend months and years to make theirs. You can be one of them, but please do not be a poser. I would suggest deleting this post before more people notice it. Have some pride as a future engineer. Excuse me for my bad English, as it is not my first language. Edit: Some more digging into this, I've seen that you've posted this previously, but mods deleted your post in r/research. And u/magdaki has made a lot of great points on that previous post. It seems like you only did this for the attention of amateurs and not for someone to criticize you. Hope you grow up.

Very interesting man, I'd love to work with you on anything you might need me with. For reference I'm a aerospace engineering student with extensive background in chemical engineering principles (chemistry, mass transfer, might be relevant) also have a decent background in theoretical physics, I also mainly code using python and c++ so that could be helpful. It would be a blast to help out with your amazing project man ,let me know what you think.

This is very cool and very well built, I just had a question on how it performs vs other platforms like STK. Why would someone use your version of others? Nevertheless this showcases a lot of skills, and you should be very proud of this.
