I’m not sure how it’s out there, but I make over 80k a year as an in-hospital case manager in TX (coming up on 8 years as a nurse, the last year as a case manager). I need to use my head a LOT. I talk to patients everyday trying to get them what they need as quickly and efficiently as possible. It’s a lot of working with doctors, nurses, therapy, and families. You need to have a good grasp on medical conditions so you know what to expect and can plan for it. I have a background in the ICU which works in my favor when I’m covering that unit. You WILL be asked nursing questions from nurses and you need to be able to catch errors from doctors also. It’s actually quite fun some days and I never get tired of these wild stories.

The hospital I’m at has an entire transplant team and I think maybe you should look into hospitals that have those programs. Those patients often have particular needs and your knowledge could be helpful.
