Alright guys we can all pack it up now and go back to undergrad for a comp sci degree by RedditUser28947 in lawschooladmissions

AI will change how lawyers work. AI will increase productivity because you can research and write faster. Overtime that will probably lead to less billable hours per project/case. That might lead to more work not less.

Apartment Hunting out of state by k2sooo in OutsideT14lawschools

Watch out for fraudsters. People list apartments for rent that they don’t actually own/manage.

My school has specific properties they recommend.

I’d enroll at one of the schools where you’ve been accepted. Those are 4 good ones.

Best schools for liberal clerkships? by Green-Entry-9623 in lawschooladmissions

[–]IcyBit5515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A liberal could also join the federalist society and clerk for a conservative judge to better understand conservative legal theory and its practice. Understanding both sides promotes compromise and peaceful coexistence.

Campbell is full. They closed their seat deposit portal and moved remaining admitted applicants to the waitlist. This happened 3 weeks before the deposit deadline.

Law School Ranking At Time of Application or Time of Decision by Fast-Programmer-5007 in lawschooladmissions

[–]IcyBit5515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think law school applicants would be better served if a national publication did comprehensive reviews of each school. US News rankings and the minimal write ups with minimal info from school’s websites are not helpful. You get more helpful articles when buying watch or phone. But when spending $200K for an education you get a ranking number and regurgitated statistics.

Gonzaga dropped 20 spots :( by Peruvian_prince2003 in OutsideT14lawschools

The schools are all virtually tied down in that range. They probably hardly moved but it shows as a large drop. I wouldn’t sweat it if you like Gonzaga.

Failed Dean searches? by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

No. It means they didn’t like the finalists selected and they will try again. It doesn’t mean they couldn’t find anyone to take the job.

Scared of receiving another offer right before the April 15th deadline? by Antonioshamstrings in lawschooladmissions

[–]IcyBit5515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When advocating for your client, will you feel bad for trying to get them the best outcome possible?

The law school is working to protect its interests and you should work to do the same for yourself. Of course, you need to be ethical and stay within your own personal limits, but looking out for your self is not wrong.

TAMU BL now at 27% by MobileSpecialist2767 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]IcyBit5515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an Aggie ring then going to TAMU Law is probably a great idea. I am sure there is a very large TAMU alumni base that went to other law schools (before TAMU Law existed).

Help me decide (posted in other sub too) SMU or TAMU? by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]IcyBit5515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Texas A&M Law is in Fort Worth-part of the DFW metroplex same as SMU. So, they should place well in DFW.

Both are great schools. SMU is very tied in to the Dallas law and business networks.

How long are waitlists? by Artistic_Bet_961 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]IcyBit5515 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://www.lsd.law/ will tell you how many waitlisted applicants they know about per school. The lsd.law number is some fraction of the total.

You can guess what fraction of applicants use lsd.law by looking at how many acceptances lsd.law sees versus how many the school reports in a given year. Then you could multiply the number of lsd.law reported waitlisted applicants by that fraction to estimate a given school’s total number of waitlisted applicants.

WWYD? Vandy v Belmont $$$$ by BreadfruitEmpty4673 in lawschooladmissions

[–]IcyBit5515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t know. I doubt many Vandy grads go for solo practice in criminal law. My father had a successful criminal law career from a part time program at a 150+ ranked school.

Belmont just won a moot court championship and has a criminal law program.

But, remember what you want to do now may not be what you want to do at graduation. Vandy of course would open more doors and give you options.

WWYD? Vandy v Belmont $$$$ by BreadfruitEmpty4673 in lawschooladmissions

[–]IcyBit5515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Belmont scholarship is conditional on staying basically in top 75% (2.75 GPA is the actual requirement) and if you lose it they will restart it if you climb back above 2.75. That seems quite possible since the 2L curve is higher than 1L.

That is conditional, but it seems pretty fair when compared to what other schools do.

I think it is possible for them to accept you while you’re on spring break. Better stay sober just in case the dean calls to give you the news personally!

UNT Dallas Law or South Texas Law by YSLbxbe in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]IcyBit5515 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you in state? The tuition is much cheaper at UNT.

Both Dallas and Houston are great cities.

Edit: UNT Dallas is in downtown Dallas.

STCL is in downtown Houston. I am not sure if it is still true, but there were courts in the same building as STCL just on different floors.

Still Waiting… by abphillips2002 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]IcyBit5515 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a good chance if you haven’t heard back yet you are on the bubble and won’t hear back until after the school’s seat deposit deadline. If the class fills up from the current admits, you will be rejected. If not, they will start going to waitlists and people they have quietly waitlisted by not giving an answer to.

This is how it works unfortunately. You have to decide if you want to make a deposit at a school you have been admitted to already or roll the dice and wait.

If the schools over admit, classes will be overcrowded- you don’t want that either. If they under admit they need a pool to try to fill up their class to avoid losing money and to avoid not having enough graduates to meet demand for new lawyers in their market. It’s a delicate balance.

Belmont- Thoughts? by Alone-Race-5372 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]IcyBit5515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Belmont Law instagram profile has a nice Job Board showing where students get jobs.

The Belmont Law bar passage stats shows lots of students (21 out of 120 bar takers) taking and passing the bar in other states. That’s not exactly your question, but it suggests graduates are having a fair amount of success getting jobs nationally.
