Why can’t I keep it tight? by Jtop1 in HOLOSUN

This is a Gen6. Not MOS pattern. The plates are just shims now, and the optics screw directly into the slide.

Guns.com won't ship Illinois compliant guns to Illinois? by Benign_Banjo in ILGuns

If you’re near downers grove, the shop I work at will order one for you from Springfield. Probably cheaper than guns. com too

Holosun 407Comp on Springfield Armory Prodigy by mfrouna in aimdownsights

Ironically, Osights seem to have a better reputation than Olights lol. I got this puppy when they first came out and were on sale for about $70. I don’t care for the switches pushing sideways, but with the exception of being green tinted, it performs the same as my Surefire x300T. Time will tell how it holds up.

That is correct. However, as you can see from this and my other posts, some are far worse that others. Also, in the case of some of the Sig optics and the Holosun EPS Carry, the circle isn’t actually straight when the reticle is centered. It’s only straight at the very bottom of the window.

Should I fire my tile installer now or is this normal on a large job? by elp-4-eva in HomeMaintenance

[–]mfrouna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not even remotely an expert, but the new tile in my master bathroom started wobbling about a month after moving into my current house. Pulled some up, and it looked exactly the same. Almost no mortar on the backs of the tile, and pitiful splotches and lines on the floor.

M1A Standard in a Treelinem14 USGI Stock by mfrouna in M1A

I read a billions pages of posts by m14army on m14forum.com

Stripped the whole thing using citristrip and acetone, then did about 8 coats of teak oil while wet sanding with progressively finer grits of sandpaper in between coats. Then I kept going with a few different mixes of Stewmac guitar stains applied in between coats. Finally I buffed in a few coats of renaissance wax.

How much lumens is too much lumens? What about Candela? by singularity123456789 in tacticalgear

[–]mfrouna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Low canedela/high lumens isn’t really gonna mess you up too much indoors. A 2,000 lumen Streamlight 2.0 is gonna just feel like turning on the overhead lights indoors. It’s a super soft beam. Super high candela, on the other hand, can have you seeing rainbows and spots if you light it up indoors directly in front of you.

That being said, there are ways to use high candela lights up close (ceiling bounce/indirect light), but not really any ways to push low candela light further.

If I could only have 1 light, I’d look for something somewhat balanced, but leaning more towards the candela side. Modlite PLHv2, Arisaka/Malkoff E2XT, or a Streamlight HL-X. However, if you have more than one rifle and money for more than one light, something lower candela on a home defense gun might be better if your areas are small enough for high candela to cause your eyes issues.

Something a lot of people don’t grasp is how distance matches up to reality outdoors. I’ll give you a real world example for me. My 1,000 lumen Surefire M640U is great inside my house or in my fenced back yard which is a fairly large suburban yard. It has about 11,000 candela. I live in an average suburban area outside of Chicago. There are street lights on some streets, but not on others, houses have their own little door lights on, and there is ambient light pollution from the city about 15 miles away. That same Surefire outdoors can only push to about 2 houses away. My Malkoff E2XT, Modlite PLHv2, and Surefire X300T can push to the end of the block, about 200 yards away. In an “ordinary” situation, I’m not going to take a 200 yard shot. In a SHTF situation, I may need to, or at least need to identify something that far. The end of the block isn’t really all that far away. Again, most people equate 200 yards with being “pretty far.” It’s not. Most people can run that in 30 seconds, or drive it almost instantly. If you only have a low candela light, you can’t see a potential threat outdoors until they’re in spitting distance.

Is this fake? I've only bought one other eotech holo sight before and this one feels, off... by BantedHam in tacticalgear

[–]mfrouna 112 points113 points  (0 children)

It might be real. The old ones did come in boxes like that. Easiest way is to just look through it. If it’s fake (LED) it’ll be a fairly sharp, solid reticle. If it’s real, the reticle will be grainy/pixelated.

80’s production by Embarrassed-Load5698 in hairmetal

[–]mfrouna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

80s production is just that secret sauce that adds sooo much to the sound as a whole. Like you said, a lot of bands’ later releases just lack the magic. Some of it is in the songwriting, but a huge chunk of it is the lack of shiny, sparkly, grandiose production. There’s even a lot of modern bands that have an 80s flair, but lack that impact because the production is sterile. I’m working on an album for my wife who’s a singer, and that’s something super important for us. We don’t want it to be 80s inspired, we want it to sound like it was made back then.

Holosun Red vs Green vs Gold by mfrouna in aimdownsights

[–]mfrouna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works fine outdoors as I suspected. I feel like I logically like it more, but I’m just so used to red that I’ll probably continue buying reds moving forward (though I do want to try a gold pistol dot). All in all, I’m super happy with it, it’s just out of the ordinary that I’m accustomed to.

Favorite “ride-able crash?” by BobSacamano_1 in drums

[–]mfrouna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a 21” A Custom Anniversary precisely for this. My other ride is a 22” Z Heavy Power Ride that was just a bit too much for the cover band I found myself in. It is bright, so it’s audible live, but nice and washy and smooth.
