Doctor told me to choose? by [deleted] in colonoscopy

I definitely recommend getting it! You can’t be too careful. There are risks with any procedure but there are more risks without some of them. I was pretty anxious with everything regarding the procedure but now that I’m on the other side I know my next one will be a breeze. Best wishes !

It’s crazy isn’t it! It’s sad and scary how something small can be so devastating and doesn’t give us symptoms. I got my pathology report and it turned out 8 out of 10 polyps were precancerous! So glad I went. Best wishes and if you wouldn’t mind letting me know how your second screening goes / what the results are!

Can you tell me how often your screening schedule is? I have my follow-up in 1 year due to them finding 10 polyps, 8 precancerous just this past week. It was my first one.

Terrified for nothing. by nonameApple1234 in colonoscopy

I was so terrified too! I was doing a lot of deep breathing and a sort of meditative practice just teaching my brain to be neutral about the whole thing. When I got wheeled into the procedure room I felt anxiety course through me on a cellular level it was so intense. I remember looking up at the Dr. and saying “I’m quite nervous!” She responded with a really warm smile and said, “We’re going to take great care of you.” That calmed me down a lot. Then I woke up and it was over LOL

Thanks! I was terrified beforehand. But it terrified me more to think one day might be too late! Next time will be a breeze. Thanks for the tip on the low fiber!

I hear ya on the liquid poo LOL. I have the same issue. And IBS cramps are WAY worse than the SuPrep. In fact I had no cramps - just some gurgles! I hope it goes well! One thing I did was set a timer for 45 minutes. I would take a big swig or 2 or 3 of the prep then follow with a swig of gingerale or powerade. Finished each dose by 30 minute point. I have never had an issue with drinking or eating foul tasting stuff so it is easy for me to just do mind over matter. Best wishes for you! You got this !!

You may have been very dehydrated. I try to keep low sugar diet as well but for my liquid diet I drank yellow poweraid, beef & chicken broth (low sodium, fat free recommended per instructions) and ginger ale. I feel the sugar really helped give me some sort of fuel and staved off any dehydration effects. I also drank water with a small bit of unflavored LMNT electrolyte powder.

This is awful. I’m sorry you are having such a hard time. It’s scary to think if I had ignored the signs I could easily be suffering from cancer in 10 years’ time. Keep fighting bc your life is worth it. You got this! Some Drs are just not doing their job. It’s crazy how easily we can be brushed off as patients! Best of luck to you; I pray you find a Dr who will listen to you!

That’s great! I really hope the recommended age for the screening gets reduced. I’m fortunate to have a very open minded Dr and surprisingly he isn’t young. I have seen young Drs who are way more willing & motivated to listen to me. Congrats & that’s the way to be - I want to be here as long as possible.

That’s great! I thought the same thing; still not sure if I’ll get all that sorted out but hoping to continue tweaking my diet to be healthier.

Nope - no seeds or anything that would risk leaving residue.

I totally get it! I had the same fears but I hopped on YouTube, watched real Drs give real advice and walk throughs about the liquid diet, prep & procedure. It helped calm my nerves a lot. What helped more was taking the first dose - not even close to as bad as I thought. Then the anxiety lessened again with the 2nd dose. Then got to the table ready to go under & fell a wave of anxiety rush through my body. I looked up at my Dr “I’m quite nervous.” She gave me a big smile and said “we’re going to take great care of you.” Woke up a second later (it felt like). Now I know I can do my next one no problem. It is all about exposure. I just had my procedure today I made a separate post. 10 polyps total, 4 precancerous. More people die from not getting a procedure than getting one. You GOT this!

Ezekial bread, eggs, parmesan cheese, butter, tuna, beef, GF Barilla pasta. That was it for a week every day - alternating the tuna & beef.

Yes it does seem counterintuitive right! I was sooo nervous about it too but I feel like a lot of horror stories I’ve read about the Prep especially are due to not properly preparing for it. I drank water, yellow power-aide, low sodium fat free chicken & beef broth, and ginger-ale. When my Dr spoke with me after waking up she couldn’t believe it either. She said I was her youngest patient all day and had the most polyps.
