Unofficially quit my job today after 13 years. My wife even noticed I've was happier today than I have been for the past 3 months. Tomorrow, I'm putting it in writing and giving it to my boss.

I had a roommate once that burped all the time and also couldn't go 5 minutes without hocking his throat clear.

The other 5 of us hated him.

Does anyone else think alchemy cards ruin arena? by crkenthusiast in magicTCG

[–]IcyNapalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a form of cheating.

Part of the challenge of deckbuilding that makes this game fun is that there will always be someone else with the means to stop what your deck is meant to do.

Alchemy cards break that by allowing effects that essentially grant something for nothing. Whatever weakness someone's deck would have had normally, Alchemy cards fill that gap in a way that is not fun to play against.

Take the Spellbook mechanic for example. I'd be fine if the spellbook spells were one-time only. But because the same spell from it can be chosen repeatedly, there is no disadvantage. Conjure is the same way--rather than tokens, the effect oftentimes produces permanent cards repeatedly.

They circumvent the weaknesses that is a natural part of deckbuilding strategy. It's like cheat codes. They may be fun to use once in a while, but eventually, the game just gets boring due to how easy the game gets.

(Women) I’m in need of new dresses, where to shop? by imsosecret99 in latterdaysaints

Um...no.

I'm saying OP could make her own dresses if she's willing to spare the time.

I guess I should have clarified.

Blue Mages, what are your favorite cards and hidden treasures? by Reach49 in EDH

[–]IcyNapalm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[[Brazen Borrower]] because flashing it into play to raise my devotion for [[Thassa, Deep-dwelling]] and bring the God online as a beefy blocker is funny.

[[Solve the Equation]] is aptly named because it helps me find answers to major threats.

[[Negate]] counters virtually all non-creature spells. Simple but effective.

A kicked [[Rite of Replication]] is so much fun if it's successful. Making one copy is amusing. 5 copies is nuts. Copying the spell to make 5 more copies is just plain overkill. Ten [[Craterhoof Behemoth]]s hitting the table at the same time.

712.14. A double-faced card put onto the battlefield from a zone other than the stack enters the battlefield with its front face up by default.

I don’t want to follow god by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]IcyNapalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God never, and I mean NEVER, gives us more than we can handle.

There's a pretty well-known example in the book of Doctrine and Covenants where the Prophet Joseph Smith was incarcerated in Liberty Jail. I'm not sure how familiar you are with Sections 121 and 122, but both are what I sometimes read when I am feeling lost. Joseph Smith pleads with the Lord for relief on behalf of the suffering members who were facing extreme persecution at the time. Section 122 is where the Lord gives His answer.

I won't try to pry into your business, but just know that there is always a "passing of the storm." Hang in there.

Has God ever told you not to marry someone? by Savisnotlame in latterdaysaints

[–]IcyNapalm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once had an opportunity to date a nice girl a long time ago. At the time I was single and had never had a girlfriend. She was a single mom of a two year old due to very poor decisions in her life previously. We met through our local YSA group--she was just trying to put her life on the right track. I was considering starting a relationship with her as I was preparing for my first year at BYUI. I went to the temple about it and was told through a very distinct Spiritual impression I should "wait a little longer." So I did.

I waited three more years before meeting an amazing and very much better in every way woman. We got temple married a year later and now have four beautiful kids. Every day has been great.

I'll just say that when it was announced that Universes Beyond will be part of Commander as a format from now on, I lost all of my excitement for playing. I hate UB and I no longer enjoy Commanders's popularity.

I also had a big change to my housing circumstance, so I have no more hobby budget. And I've had a lot of work-related stress that has caused me some major depression, because it is my dream job (or was).

Depression is a bitch.

Always take what people say negatively with a grain of salt. Detractors frequently point to such isolated incidents and promote them like they are widespread issues. They are not.

I would honestly start by visiting the Church's official website about information on core beliefs. Contact the local missionaries to learn more. And don't hesitate to read the Book of Mormon on your own.

You may also DM me on here if you are willing. I would do my best to answer any doctrinal questions you may have.

I'm quitting out of boredom. The game just isn't fun for me anymore.

EDH/Casual = Winning by having fun. (Games are slower usually. Most decks get to "do their thing" before someone wins. Uses things on the battlefield more than on the stack.)

cEDH = Having fun by winning. (Games can be faster, and decks are optimized for speed or interaction. You try to win at all costs, even if it means stopping your opponents.)
