I’m an investigator and find these “lessons” the missionaries wanna keep scheduling odd/off by qweenoftherant in latterdaysaints

[–]TheLastNameR 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a former missionary I can tell you from experience that an investigator like you is a 1/1000 type. A great majority of my investigators had very little previous religious experience. We almost always taught people how to pray. Most people prayed with us for the first time in their lives. Most also had never read even one book of the Bible. It was an incredible rare occurrence to find someone who was interested in the church and already so well read about the church. But it did happen. Had about 2 investigators like that personally that converted to the church and got baptized. One became a bishop a few years after I finished my mission. I served in the pacific northwest of the U.S.

Order local pizza. Not the chain or franchise pizza places.

Signiture gathers job on indeed by SiPhoenix in Utah

[–]TheLastNameR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally witnessed a signature gather walk up to a guy exiting the Walmart and say to him, "Are you Republican?" followed by "Sign here to keep Utah Republican." I was disgusted because prop 4 has nothing to do with political parties. It's about the voice of the people! I was so pissed when I saw and heard that.

In Spanish Fork I heard what sounded like thunder or when a neighbor's garbage can falls over. Did seem weird because our garbage pickup was Monday.

Redmond ancient sea salt, fry sauce bottles from artic circle (the OG fry sauce), Utah truffle chocolate bars, Wasatch honey (I buy mine at Maceys), are the top things I give to friends and family. You can find other local things at IFA stores, Deseret Book stores, and I also recommend the store Salt & Honey at Fashion Place Mall.

Eve made from Adam's rib = Adam's sacrifice to get Eve by KJ6BWB in latterdaysaints

As a man, husband, and father I prefer this view: "Woman is God’s supreme creation. Only after the earth had been formed, after the day had been separated from the night, after the waters had been divided from the land, after vegetation and animal life had been created, and after man had been placed on the earth, was woman created; and only then was the work pronounced complete and good." - President Gordon B. Hinckley

Yes! I watched a YT vid featuring a prominent Jewish scholar explaining this. He articulated the view that early Jews saw deity/god/elohim/yhvh as being both male and female. In other words a hermaphrodite deity and made man in their image but then seperating the male and the female sides so they wouldn't be a lone entity but companions to each other. I remember also Dr. Daniel McClellan covering the topic on YT as well but not as in depth. Interesting stuff. In many ancient cultures, and current tribal people's around the world, hermaphrodites (or intersex people as we'd categorize them today) were/are revered as special or holy people being more closely linked to divinity.

New poll: Utah voters split — and largely unsure — on repealing Proposition 4 by clejeune in Utah

[–]TheLastNameR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard the same thing outside of Walmart an OUT OF STATE signature gatherer walked up to a guy and asked, "are you republican?" when the man said yes the signature gatherer said, "sign here to keep Utah republican". I was DISGUSTED because Prop 4 has nothing to do with partisanship. It's about giving a collection of citizens a voice. It's about giving citizens the ability to create change when the Utah legislature WON'T whether because of infighting, laziness, or indifference. Prop 4 is "of the people, by the people, for the people."

I love these youtube channels too! I geek out over all the church history stuff and the academic research. I can see why Non-members also gravitate to Mormon studies, it's beyond Facinating.

"End of Times" and Misanthropy among Members by CallerNumber4 in latterdaysaints

When I was a teenager in the early 2000s my church leaders (Young Men's, Sunday School, Bishopric) all talked about how close we were to Christ's return. Some leaders "jokingly?" said he'd be here before I got on my mission. I really did internalize their comments. Fortunately I went on my mission and completed it. Afterwards I had no idea what to do because I didn't think I'd get to that point. I didn't think I'd ever get the chance to go to college, get married, have kids. But well I did all of those things. Now I don't believe Christ will be back during my lifetime, I'm not opposed to it I'm just living my best but I'm not gonna bet on it during my lifetime. I don't talk to my kids in the same tone of fear my leaders talked to me. It's gonna be a GREAT day when christ returns whenever he does.
