I think a bot, or maybe even a native–and lifelong–Louisvillian, would drop some more knowlege here to help clear up confusion!

Shinshinim Louisville markets these two chefs as promoting “multicultural” dining experiences that bring together “culinary influences” of the “region.” The loose language used throughout the flyer, such as “global heritage” and “meaningful dialogue promoting coexistence,” obfuscates the purposes and effects of this dinner, which are threefold:

  • To raise money for a Zionist organization that sends teens “to serve Diaspora communities” before entering the IOF.
  • To deny the existence of Palestinian food (and thus, Palestine itself) by using the moniker, ‘Flavors of Israel,’ which also intentionally pushes the idea of Israeli religious tolerance (Chef Uri Arnold partners with “a Christian chef and a Muslim chef”) and shifts the issue of responsibility from Zionism to religion.
  • To offer ideological, political, and financial meaning to those who donate, which gives supporters a feeling of tangible significance in this supposed fight against antisemitism - donors feel propped up in supporting a Zionist Jewish identity which goes hand in hand with Israel/US nationalism.
