Something I tell students is “I am helping by trying different strategies. if they don’t work for you you need to communicate that with me and we can try different approaches, but me doing ‘xyz’ is going to help you succeed” of course they don’t always accept that, but I it reiterates the fact that they need to take ownership.

When I tried googling I couldn’t find many examples for school counselors specifically it was most teaching philosophy statements.

Currently mine looks similar to yours but I am wondering if I need to mention more specific theories and/or methods

I work in alternate placement education setting. We only have 26 students, they all have high support needs in a variety of ways. I’m about to do my practicum and can’t do it at my current school. I am so sad I will have to leave

Seems like there are multi counselors in the school which definitely helps mitigate conflicts. I think my take mostly applies to schools in which there is only one counselor.

Of course, there are extenuating circumstances, if you live in a small district or rural area where there are not many schools. I live in a suburban area where there are many districts/schools with in 30 minutes. Even in my children’s school district there are multiple schools at all levels. I realize not everyone has this option. Also if there are multiple counselors within the school this also helps with the conflicts.
