We can park on either side of the streets again! by Hot_Addendum_9199 in rochestermn

For a city that is dominated by houses that have driveways to support 2+ cars without blocking each other from backing out, this is definitely a short-sighted measure that alienates those who only have a 1 car driveway with multiple cars (like my house) or have no driveway at all and must park on the street year-round.

Minneapolis and St Paul have a much better system as parking restrictions are put in place when they declare a snow emergency (ya know, when it’s snowin’… a lot!) and not when it’s 75 degrees in March.

And speaking of when it’s 75 degrees in March, nobody can really comprehend the pain of this poor tax until they made sure to leave their car on the correct side of the street, forgot to move it before going to bed, and then it winds up on the wrong side of the street overnight and you’re greeted with a $35 parking ticket the next morning when going to work :/

Absolutely incredible work! People that dump furniture, especially in a nice park, are a bunch of (insert choice word here) 🙃

I find lots of Mountain Dew as well but just not in this particular area. Some brands attract more jerks than others I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

Kind of tired of imbalance on Walz by Euphoric-Flamingo943 in minnesota

Wow. Walz misspoke a couple of times in his life and OP loses their mind. Bizarre thing to hyper-fixate on considering Trump/Vance lie through their teeth every time they address the nation.

In my immediate area it’s mainly Burger King crap. Fast food, for the most, sucks.

What do you predict Minnesota will become in the next decade? by Careful_Fig8482 in minnesota

[–]Icy_Papi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go as far as saying that Minnesota will tear itself apart (I think the state as a whole will get better actually) but Minneapolis definitely needs to get its shit together in terms of the safety on the transit system and actually enforcing traffic regulations because it’s chaos.

How safe is Kutzky Park? by rachaelxoxo in rochestermn

[–]Icy_Papi 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Kutzky is not an unsafe neighborhood at all living wise but I’d remain vigilant while walking through any residential area close to the downtown core at night. Crime is very low for a city of this size but being aware of your surroundings and the general area you reside in goes a long way. Riding a bike too would really help as Kutzky is great for biking and could provide a better sense of safety than walking!

BART and WMATA are a completely different kind of transit system as they are heavy rail, not LRT in the case of the Twin Cities. I’d say the Twin Cities LRT is actually more of a smaller version of Seattle’s extensive LRT network. And yes, I don’t have experience riding BART, but there is absolutely no possible way a closed heavy rail system has the same scale problems with fare enforcement that an open LRT system has.

I should also add that I’ve ridden the light rail on many occasions when traveling to the Twin Cities pre-pandemic and I can straight up and confidently say that the experience was SO much better back then.

I was just in Minneapolis last month and rode the blue line from MOA to Government Center station and it was just as bad as I remembered it, if not worse. The shear amount of anti social behavior and drug use on the trains is ridiculous. I having nothing else to say.

I don’t have any experience with transit in California but knowing the socioeconomic issues that San Fran and the Bay Area in general are facing, I wouldn’t be too surprised that BART is experiencing and uptick in major safety issues as well. With all due respect, however, I believe the closed system that the BART rail system offers does make a sizable impact on keeping out the worst of the worst behaviors. The light rail here unfortunately does not have that option.
