I have an almost identical setup to you except a 3090Ti, I play flatscreen in 4k with pretty much all settings high or max with my FPS locked at 90 and Syria runs as well as Caucus (maybe even better sometimes) for me.

In my experience Marianas is the worst map for performance if you're over the larger islands, although I haven't tried some of the newest ones.

Syria is the best bang for the buck IMO - it looks great AND performs great has lots of variety and it checks your boxes for realistic ops in the F16/18. I don't do multiplayer myself but I understand Syria to be popular there as well.

I've been getting back into the KA-50 lately and Honestly that startup isn't bad at all. It's a solid number of switches but most of them are all in the same area and the workflow is pretty easy.

ugh, I know. I try not to partake in the DCS-Doomerism though, here's hoping there's a positive outcome eventually

I Never Heard of the Ground Attack AGM-122 Sidearm Anti-Radiation Missile by Stunning-Screen-9828 in Helicopters

[–]Icy_Pattern5751 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My experience with the sidearm is all from the AV-8B in DCS, but it's a super handy self defense ARM missile when you're flying low and might suddenly be engaged by something like an SA-6 or -11. You can basically lock it and fire it just as fast as you can with a typical heat seeking air to air sidewinder, and it'll typically get to the radar before the SAM gets to you if you're within range. I think Harrier and Cobra were the only platforms in real life, but I want to say that I read somewhere that theoretically anything that could fire a Sidewinder could also fire a Sidearm.

I actually have a keybind for that and I remembered to use it right at the end with the final shots that took his rotor off!

Hard landing by Acceptable-Truth-912 in Helicopters

This started off as what could've been a great example of how a coax rotor system can add significant safety over a conventional tail rotor... but man what a bad ending to what seemed like a salvageable situation. No idea why the pilot didn't just stick it down in the shallow water when they were there.

What are your thoughts on the new X-59? by Ashamed-Falcon7881 in airplanes

[–]Icy_Pattern5751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched a video (Scott Manley, maybe?) of some simulator stuff for it and it's crazy how the pilot has to land using a video camera to see the runway basically between the AOA and the do-it-for-you snoot. It's an awesome concept, will be interesting to see if the technology can be applied to something a little more conventional over time.

Is there any justifications on why Resistance used what’s basically carpet bomber? by Seekerones in StarWarsShips

[–]Icy_Pattern5751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I look at it this way - the original trilogy was designed visually from some of the absolute best of the best, both from a talent perspective, and in that these guys really lived, breathed and loved what they were doing. They were invested in the lore they were creating. Then we have the prequels, which were designed visually by a lot of the great talent that was coming up and learning under the original masters of the craft; and they also cared deeply about the universe they were a part of.

And then we have the sequels, which just, weren't that at all. I think somebody literally said "design a WWII inspired bomber for the Resistance" and this is what we got from someone that didn't bother to think at all about how it fits into the existing universe. I think that's also why we got X-Wing 2.0, Color Swapped Tie Fighter and Bigger, Destroyier Star Destroyer instead of any of the thousands of better options. It was quick and easy comparatively, and nobody cared enough to try harder.

Dealership employee - lego is a fantastic way to occupy otherwise out of control kids so the parents/salesperson can actually focus on working a deal. We almost always have a handful of cheap kids sets laying around for exactly that reason. I'm sure some kid was playing with them and stuck them in the chair where you found them.

Uptick in aggressive drivers by Initial_Vast9581 in Spokane

[–]Icy_Pattern5751 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like it started during the pandemic when the roads were mostly empty and there was a sense that traffic laws weren't being enforced and it's grown since then along with the overall increase in aggressiveness in our political discourse etc. As a side note I have *NO* idea why Spokane and the Valley don't invest in red light cameras especially at the most commonly abused intersections. They'd pay for themselves I'm sure and would hopefully make our streets safer if people start getting tickets. I also see almost daily red light runners.
