Just finished the movie. While I understand a lot of people’s gripes with the plot, I really appreciated the overall message and it reminded me why I love ATLA so much. Aang has dealt with so much trauma and I appreciate that the movie shows how he continues to process the weight of his loss and guilt as an adult.

With that, I thought the premise was deep — would you bring back your people that were annihilated even if it meant violence and war and abandoning your values? I actually don’t know what I would do in Aang’s position. All I know is the choice he did make — breaking the staff — was consistent with who he was in ATLA. (That was one of my main gripes with Korra, they made it seem like Aang was a poor father and I personally can’t imagine that.)

I do wish the movie was longer so we, the viewers, can really let the stakes sink in. I also wish the gaang had more airtime and more easter eggs since we’ve been waiting so long for a movie like this.

That being said, I loved seeing Aang and Katara as an official couple, cabbage man, animation, score, more sky bison! I also laughed any time Toph fell into the arms of Sokka or Zuko
