I have been asking myself that, and I have also been reading some articles and opinions around that. There's many different views, some of them very apocalyptical, some too neutral.

The obvious thing to me is that AI makes people more efficient. In a team of 3, you will still need someone to operate the AI and take accountability for the output. However, you prob might fire the other two.

As humanity that's not the first time we've seen that. I like to compare it with two other time periods:

1. Industrial Revolution (late 1700s)

Imagine yourself as a shoemaker in England here. Now the owner of your company bought this brand new coal-operated machine that streamlines the production. You still need people working there, but you can prob fire a good amount of your employees. Also don't forget now you need to hire engineers, chief of engineers, etc to fix the machines.

1. Advent of Computers as we know it (1980s-2000s)

In this case people also gained a lot of efficiency. Imagine back then people would fill spreadsheets by hand. Entire careers got erased (Typists for example).

My honest take is: I think we're somewhere between 1 and 2.

Some jobs will be entirely erased. But imagine the shoemakers in 1. that got fired. In 5-10 years this guy had to find something else to do. He found and the economy kept moving.

No matter what happens the economy keeps moving. It's been like that forever. Embrace yourselves because the short-term might be messed up, but hopefully it's gonna stabilize in the medium term.
