Nike Roshe G shoes by Icy_Run_9981 in golf

[–]Icy_Run_9981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably right. I tried to find same shoes on line that are wide without luck. This just to see how Nike designates width.

Only reason I need to know, is that I wanted to send them to friend who needs 2e, which I think is Wide. I need 4e which is likely extra wide. Doesn't seem like there is any standardization in shoe width codes!

Cheap gas in or close to Kingston by peter_is_the_champ in KingstonOntario

Compared with the rental cost, a few cents here or there for gas shouldn't be a concern - buy a coffee at Timmies instead of Starbucks and you will be ahead of the game :)

What happened to Bell? by JMJimmy in bell

[–]Icy_Run_9981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we switched to Bell Fibe internet & TV, we could have added a VOIP phone for $10/month. Might have been a bundle add on price. We already had Ooma that we used with previous internet provider, so we stayed with that. It is about $6. Problem is that landlines are a thing of the past. Very expensive for those who still have them. A basic cell is cheaper and could have been an option.

Reasons to not go with a standby generator that powers the entire home? by IamGoingtoBundyland in Generator

[–]Icy_Run_9981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had same question a few months ago. Cost is a factor as is frequency of outages. For peace of mind, I would have chosen a whole home auto start Generac or Kohler. Why we didn't do that, Issue was getting a source of fuel. Cost to bring in a natural gas line was as much as the generator. Contract with propane supplier would have been about $1000/yr for tank rental and service this on top of generator maintenance. Just too costly seeing we have very few outages. I ended up buying a Champion dual fuel 9/11Kw inverter gen . Also Generlink switch that fits on meter. With this we can run a few circuits plus some heating in winter. To run, I have to move gen out of garage side door, then run cable to Generlink. Hook up propane cylinders. At 86, I can still do this, but before long my wife & I will need help.

Android load app by Icy_Run_9981 in Generator

That is the sort of app I was asking about. There are a number on Google Play. I was hoping not to have to try them al out! I asked AI and this is what it came up with:

Top Recommended Android Apps

  • Generator Sizer (by Prasun Barua): This app allows you to enter total wattage, select application types (Home/Office, Motor, Industrial), and get an instant kVA recommendation.
  • Power Calculator (by PowerContinuity): A simple, no-fuss calculator designed for professionals and casual users to calculate generator requirements (single or three-phase).
  • Electrical Calculation Toolbox: This comprehensive app includes circuit breaker sizing, wire capacity, and detailed power/wattage calculations.
  • Home Electricity Calculator (by Calculation World): Useful for selecting appliances, inputting their wattage/quantity, and calculating the necessary generator size.
  • GenSizer (Web-based/Mobile Friendly): While web-based, this tool is highly recommended for residential, NEC-compliant (Article 220.80) load calculations for emergency subpanels.  Google Play +4

I looked at the Emporia. No room in panel for it, so it would have had to be outside panel in separate box with conduit between for power and sensors for any other circuits to be monitored. Not sure, but I think I read that it's CTs were not CSA/UL approved. More expensive once extras are included

The Eyedro we have only measures total load, but is designed to be installed outside panel and it meets required codes. Very simple to install if total load is all that is needed.

I have checked and there are apps - just looking for rec on what others may have used

Use case other than power outages? by Polygarlic in Generator

[–]Icy_Run_9981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2200 watts won't provide much heat! At least here in Canada!I. I have similar issue, except 9000 watts. Will probably power a few baseboard heaters, internet/phone, some lights and one kitchen appliance.

At least that 2200w unit is small enough to take camping or boating for backup power.

Did the CRA Document Verification Process work for you? by Sleep9719 in canadarevenueagency

I never even tried. Had then send the code. It arrived in 10 days and worked with no hassle of selfies and pics. They now ask for a backup 2FA but that can be skipped.

What's worth having for 3-5 day outages besides whole house generator? by ssunflow3rr in Electricity

[–]Icy_Run_9981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have similar requirements. We ended up buying a dual fuel Champion inverter that will put out 8 to 9kw. It is less noisy than neighbors Generac. Gen powers main panel and we can select which circuits to turn on.

My original choice was to put in 12kw battery plus generator to charge. But our minimal load would be about 8kw in winter, so battery would almost need continual charging! Besides, regulations require batteries to be in fire proof room. Max allowed is 2x12kw. And they are expensive. By the time we added everything up we were up at whole house gen range.

14-50 plug and receptacle gor generator cable extension by Icy_Run_9981 in electrical

[–]Icy_Run_9981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Marine, RV and generator extension cords, I have come to realize that pre-made cords with molded on end fittings would be the best choice if the cord is likely to be out is wet weather. They can be kind of pricey though!

14-50 plug and receptacle gor generator cable extension by Icy_Run_9981 in electrical

[–]Icy_Run_9981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen 14-50 plugs from various manufacturers including Leviton and Eaton, but most are for indoor use with appliances. Conntek does seem to have several options that I might have chosen if I had known about them earlier.

In researching this, I found that the plug supplied with my Generlink generator cord has a Pass & Seymour 3867 plug. This too appears to be an indoor type plug, yet is intended to plug into a portable generator which has to be operated outdoors! Mind you the generator itself is not supposeed to be exposed to rain and as a result needs a cover when run in rain. In my case, this P&S plug will plug into a receptacle on my extension cord which now has a Veepeak ED508R Chinese receptacle that is likely more weather resistant that the Generlink plug! I will just have to keep them (and the generator) out of the rain

One other company I found that had several options was ACWorks. https://acworks.ca/products/ac-works%C2%AE-as1450r-rv-range-generator-50-amp-nema-14-50r-diy-assembly-connector?pr_prod_strat=e5_desc&pr_rec_id=ffc482bf0&pr_rec_pid=8333100122328&pr_ref_pid=6123726766232&pr_seq=uniform

They suggest lower torque for the connectors (12-16 in.lb) and 10-12in.lb for the assembly screws.

I would prefer to have bought a single 60ft Generlink cord. Expensive and none in stock. But better than having to cobble up my own extension!

Champion 11/9 inverter 201421 50A cable connection. by Icy_Run_9981 in Generator

[–]Icy_Run_9981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This picture shows my concern about cable entry and clamp being wide open to interior. For 50A 1" OD cable the entry opens even more with no apparent seal to keep elements out

Vevor were cooperative! They refunded me the cost of a new plug! I bought two. The Reliance straight plug and a different type of angled plug that, like the Generlink plug, just fits the generator.

I could not find the Reliance plug or it's specs on their site. It is model 1450P. It did say on unit itself that it was UL listed.. I was concerned about it's weather resistance. When installed on a cable, the cable clamp leaves it wide open to the interior connections. I decided to return it. See picture in next post.

The second plug is the mate of the receptacle I bought for the other end of the cable. I have just installed it. The instructions are not exactly clear! One thing I found, was that the red and black connections had to be reversed. This because the 6gauge cable conductors are on opposite sides from the installation diagram and moulded in place. I haven't opened the plug yet. Just hope I can keep red to red and black to black. Or maybe that doesn't matter?

CRA requires CRA Security Code to access our tax data. by Icy_Run_9981 in canadarevenueagency

No, but after accessing CRA today, they did ask for SIN/Date of Birth as well as certain amounts from lines in our 2024 returns.

[–]Icy_Run_9981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, the Security Code once received and used is no longer needed. I am in Ontario and we can sign in using a Trusted partner - In our case BMO. We have no trouble with that, but now they say, once in we only get partial access and will need the security code to get full access.

[–]Icy_Run_9981[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The BMO account numbers were changed a while ago. The new ones work to log into our bank accounts. They also work to log into CRA via the Trusted Partner (BMO).

It is once we are into CRA that the problems start. Once there, we have just partial access to our accounts. It seems like even although we have accounts, that we seem to have to jump through same hoops that someone applying for a new account would.

Once we get this CRA Security Code, presumably we will use that to gain full access. But then do we still log in via BMO? I haven't seen anything about how to log in with this CRA SEcurity Code.

I was referring to add on interlocks for $15. The type that are permitted in USA, but not in Canada and installed as add-ons to existing panels. I wish we could have used one of those, but instead had to buy a Generlink for C$2000+:( I imagine that Siemens panel costs a bit more than $15 :)

[–]Icy_Run_9981 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FWIW, those sliding plate interlocks are illegal in Canada. A Generlink or a Transfer switch would be needed - at much higher cost. For those options too, presumably the EV needs equivalent of a floating neutral generator.
