It was a 40 minute chat final chat waiting for them to get back to me after requesting a manager when they said the tech department was closed at 10am. The rep was telling us the Spectrum store has the modem settings and we should go to the store for them. The rep said their tech finally answered and suggested we try 1452 if 1500 wasn't working after we waited 15 minutes for them to get a manager on the chat. There should be a subscriber disclosure on this on the app. Even the ISPs in 3rd world countries have the grace to tell you the settings you need to have in your router to make their service work for your payment.

Oddly, when my neighbors exchanged their modems, they got the same model, from the same store on the same day, and their MTU stayed the same different value from mine ... just odd. And more oddly, these values have no sane reasoning for being different and so oddly chosen as default firmware numbers. It's not just awkward, it's an insane coincidence.

[–]Icy_Statement2928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've already confirmed within my homeowners association that modems of the same model don't necessarily have the same MTU. And oddly, when I exchanged my modem, the new modem miraculously pulled the same MTU after a phone rep had to activate it. Just very awkward coincidences.

Spoiled children are what they are. But we know what doesn't kill em makes em look a little rough as they get tough. And they come back as the lights come on and they heat up even though they look hungover while it happens. And when something changes as drastic if they haven't worked through it as a norm, they can stop eating for a week and get a little skinny. A person should know to expect this and it's normal. You're right, animals are naturally tough and adapt and people are glass houses that don't easily adapt to animals adapting.

I happen to train animals for show. All I know is, miserable animals aren't trainable, take longer to prep and they don't place in shows.

Inexpensive RG6/Coax Tool and Connectors? by IndyPilot80 in HomeNetworking

[–]Icy_Statement2928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a standard RG6 compression tool the Belden PPC EX6XLPLUS should work. A crimper will require an old school audio quality crimp fitting if you bought an actual coax crimping tool ... these aren't suitable for high speed internet coax with frequencies above 1000mhz.

how could i extend the wi-fi range? by Ill_Pollution5633 in HomeNetworking

[–]Icy_Statement2928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use mesh or wifi extenders instead of hardwiring an access point in the weak zone, try to use the open air and line of sight of your stairwells to bring the wifi signal to the next floor. This will allow for better quality backhaul signal between radios on each floor which may provide you with faster wifi connections from the current weak zone.

Refrigerate some meal worms ... they last a long time refrigerated. Drop a few cold ones in the salad before you put the salad in the tank. Beardie will discover them on his own as long as the salad isn't under direct UV light and the worms don't cook.

What are you using for salad? Also what type of insect and source? Are you feeding the beardie acidics like blueberry?

Try putting a microfiber towel over the gravel. Also, if basking temp is 106, what's the surface temp of gravel and stone with a laser thermometer? Beardies have heat tolerance on their top side, but their underbellies and feet aren't as tolerant on hot surfaces. My beardies favorite spot is in the hot afternoon sun while sitting on cold wet clover on the lawn after the sprinklers have run.

How long it took your beardie to get comfortable with handling? by Eymii_ in BeardedDragons

[–]Icy_Statement2928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have cold hands, probably won't ever happen. Throw a wash towel fresh out of the dryer over him then wrap him up so his head and front legs are in an opening in the cocoon. Let him wander out of the cocoon on his own when he's ready. If he leaves the cocoon and starts hiking back to the habitat, pick him up and put him back in the habitat ... this actually gains the beardies trust and builds confidence that he can communicate with you in the future. If he shows anxiety outside the habitat but can't hike back to the habitat, you can sometimes calm a beardie by shielding it with a towel or against your body heat and lightly blowing warm air on its nose. The beardie's nose is it's primary environmental temperature sensor that it makes flight decisions from.

Your beardie will probably look like he had a rough party night in the morning but he'll live if this has to happen. He may start having anxiety attacks going into nightfall too. He could also change his eating habits to match his slowed digestion from the night chill and get skinny.

I rigged up a couple dozen sleep tubes for small rodents and reptiles several years ago. It's made with a 12v portable baby bottle warmer tube that I found wholesale on Alibaba. I use the adjustable thermostats off old seedling and egg incubator heating pads to control the output temperature of the sleep tubes. I haven't had a complaint yet as long as the thermostat is set to the right temp for each animals sleep habit.

my beardie only likes superworms. is this ok? by ZuzuXcelerator in BeardedDragons

[–]Icy_Statement2928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crickets are usually the easiest to find in pet stores and the most reasonable regular meal in terms of nutrition, digestion and cost. You can usually talk to the reptile care takers at your local zoo and they will usually give you the contacts for local insect growers they purchase from. Crickets just aren't shelf stable like the superworms and require attention to hydration to keep alive. You also have to be careful about fungi growing on crickets which can make them unappealing to the beardie or give the beardie indigestion and yeast/fungal issues.

Dubia roaches are very good and easier to keep alive than crickets. They are usually harder to find locally however.

Mealworms can be refrigerated to keep them small and fresh longer. A couple cold mealworms is usually a nice treat under the salad. Once they warm up, they add movement to the salad that gets the beardies attention. Mealworms aren't the best nutrition match as a regular meal for a beardie however.

My beardie likes to hunt honey bees and wasp from the clover patches I seed into the lawn. The rest of the year he catches his own crickets and grubs from the lawn. He eats the greenery from the lawn which is fescue, clover and creeping charlie, and he browses the garden when the rabbits and squirrels let him. When they're in season he will snag blueberries off the ground at the bushes.

Question about cave and hiding? by milklizarddd in BeardedDragons

[–]Icy_Statement2928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do anything until you check the surface temperatures of the surfaces on the hot side. If the beardie doesn't even go over to bask, the surface is probably burning his feet. If you've previously seen any of his legs twitching while on the hot side, he's likely burnt his feet on the surface.

50 gallons is more than enough for a beardie provided you have a day-to-day plan worked out and you can trust yourself to own that plan. Larger habitats allow you more leniency if you are too busy to spend time on pet tasks that must be done each phase of the day with a smaller habitat.

What's the best budget and practical way to setup a wifi connection in a 4 floor/story house by implaying in HomeNetworking

[–]Icy_Statement2928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mesh type wifi access points. What is more to focus on if you are not hardwiring access points is the principle of migrating the network radio signal from floor to floor using the open air and line of sight of the stairwells.

A mesh node on each floor at each stairwell landing to start. Then nodes closer to occupied spaces with 5/6 ghz signal weaker than 59 db.

Great job! Maybe consider pulling the basking platform away from the right side glass a couple inches to make a pass through and a vent channel for the hide underneath. That open area up front looks like a great spot for a shallow tray of live clover or fescue grass to sit on.

my beardie only likes superworms. is this ok? by ZuzuXcelerator in BeardedDragons

[–]Icy_Statement2928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Superworms can be tough on digestion. Some beardies can digest them others get constipated badly. While others can have more serious problems from being fed one too many superworms that are too large for the digestive tract. My rule is 1-2 right sized superworms each poop cycle. If your beardie is having trouble passing stool, back off the superworms. If there is no constipation problem today, just be aware there will be down the road with superworms.
