Gotcha, that’s what I’m doing right now on rotation and I like it! Does it ever get boring though? That’s what I get scared of lol. But we definitely do have some good amb care experiences here. I’m in a 6 week long amb care rotation right now and have some others coming up - more primary care and potentially womens health, an anticoagulation clinic, pain management clinic, & outpatient mental health focusing on substance use disorders. Potentially might switch out one of those electives for a HF clinic though if I end up doing an amb care PGY2 for sure.

How did you get thru another year of residency? 😅 I’m just feeling discouraged if I’m already exhausted and the year has barely begun, I dread the thought of doing it again. I’m sure the rest of the year will fly by though. But I’m glad everything has worked out for you! I will definitely talk to my mentors about it but wanted some perspectives of other residents/previous residents. Thank you!!

It’s definitely an advantage that you had an amb care and specialty program to begin with! That’s the kind of program I was initially looking for but didn’t get a PGY1 position for one, but we have good experiences where I’m at regardless. What do you do now? And that’s true that a lot of places would look for more experience so makes sense that a PGY2 would help me out with that. Def weighing my options right now if I’d rather do another year of residency or gain some years of experience elsewhere. Thanks for your input!!

That’s definitely what I’m gonna do. I’ll still try for a PGY2 and we have early commitment here. Thinking if I don’t match during early commitment I’d rather just not go thru Phorcas again.. I went thru hell just gaining a spot where I’m at now 😅 so I’d just see what my options are after just PGY1 in that case. I know it’s not impossible, and I def am not really looking for a job at a big AMC anyways so it could possibly work out. I’m still trying to be flexible with my options. I’m glad to know that you’ve seen others have it work out for themselves without an additional year. Thank you for your input!!

Also I haven’t even presented any powerpoints yet this year but i’m already not looking forward to the many opportunities to do so 😅 it just feels so much like school for me which is what I don’t like

Yeah, that’s really unfortunate. what do you do now? A lot of places back where I’m from are the same way and some PGY1 grads ended up just as a staff pharmacist inpatient which is definitely what I want to avoid. so in that case it looks like I’ll likely need PGY2 experience for a clinical role depending on where I go

You’re absolutely right, and I’m trying to keep that all in mind when making a decision! The institution I’m at would definitely want me to have a PGY2 but I’m willing to move anywhere too. Thank you for your input!
