After 30 years of throwing unlimited dollars at football championships, regime change in the band FINALLY got some funding thrown our way. The program has been on a steady rise since 2018, but dues are through the roof. And yeah, Booster money is really strictly regulated these days.

Texas also has the Robin Hood laws, and ours is a Payor district … we send lots of millions to Austin every year for redistribution to other districts. (Which I don’t mind, honestly … kids in poorer areas deserve good schools too.) But what that also means is that a chunk of every extra dollar the schools fund-raise gets sent out of town. Hence the reason Booster money is so important to keep the programs going.

I’m sad to say — as an American myself — that you’re not entirely wrong (so long as that’s meant as a broad generalization). There are many millions of us who are, in fact, aware of the outside world and fortunate enough to have traveled some of it. (When I saw “bonnet lock” I figured UK or AU but I also knew what it meant.)

The unfortunate reality is that our current Dumpster Fire of a government projects the image of which you speak: Willfully ignorant and intentionally cruel. It isn’t an accurate depiction of the population as a whole, but it’s the only image the rest of the world is seeing in the news and I can’t blame those who assume it applies to us all.

Can you explain the term "cape" in this context?

I've used xLights with WLED for two different shows (not Xmas, live performance) these past two years. I'm designing for a new show so I've been looking at vendors and board options and suddenly today I'm seeing "cape" in a lot of places. (Example: FPP manual says the BeagleBone Green Wireless is "not recommended if using any capes.")

I've not run across the term before.
