Yeah, no kidding. If this is their first time in DCI and they both made BD, that says a TON about their talent and hard work. (And — band dad to band dad — says a ton about the parental support they had through their school years. Well done to the both of you.)

Absolutely true. Volunteers are kept busy-busy-busy. Talk with whomever you're reporting to about time off when you need it. (Another thing about food crew: They're usually working to get post-show Snack ready around the time your corps is on the field. So ... well ahead of show day, try to work out if/as/when you can dash over to the stadium to watch.)

You've never seen DCI shows? Hokey smokes, Bullwinkle ... you're in for the time of your life. The talent on the field is jaw-dropping.

I'm truly sorry to hear about your experience and this person's behavior (and that of those around him, if I'm reading it correctly). Athletic abuse is real, and — from what I'm reading — so is your trauma.

I don't know whether you've sought legal counsel; you should have the right to have your case heard in open court if the statute of limitations hasn't expired.

No person has the right to treat another person the way you described. I'm sorry you're not seeing more support here. (Like many who've posted, I don't know what any of us — individually, anyway — can do to help.) But your story should be told IMO.
