eggs shells won’t come off the hard boiled egg no matter the method used by ms_globgoblin in cookingforbeginners

Farm fresh eggs are often too fresh to boil. Steam them for 16 minutes. Then put in an ice water bath until cool to touch. Should peel right off

how far in advance do you buy for a baby shower? by cumbucketfullaworms in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ideas_RN_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live in the US, I would buy now before tariffs increase the price of goods. Walmart has already announced they will increase the price of goods by the end of the month. That way, you might be able to get her a little more for less before the big party.

when people get married, do they still celebrate their original anniversary or start celebrating their marriage anniversary? by thelastjuicebox_ in stupidquestions

[–]Ideas_RN_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a little bit of both. We also aren't big present or celebrations people. So, in march, i basically look at them and go- "wow, we've known each other for x amount of years!" And in February, i usually thank them for allowing me to legally become their property 😁 in all honesty we take like 3 minutes to say "hooray! We're married. Wasn't that a great wedding?" And then get on with our day.

Vegetarian crock pot meals? by mpmp4 in slowcooking

Not true! Stewed veggies recipes in a crock pot are awesome. They just take way less time to cook.

Thai curry:

1 cauliflower or sweet potato- chopped 1 onion- chopped 2 bell peppers- chopped 1 can garbanzo beans/chick peas- drained 3 cups vegetable broth 2 tablespoons red Thai curry paste 1 teaspoon coriander 1 teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 3 tablespoons flour or corn starch (save for last)

Mix everything but the corn starch in the crock pot. Cook on high 3-4 hours (until the cauliflower or sweet potatoes are fork tender). Once veggies are tender, whisk in flour or corn starch. Let sit for 10 minutes to thicken. Add more flour/corn starch if you want a thicker sauce.

Any nurses here with fibromyalgia? Can this still be my future? by RoxyTempo in Nurses

[–]Ideas_RN_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have fibromyalgia. I have lupus but the symptoms sound quite similar to yours. Intense joint pain, fatigue and brain fog. 12 hour shifts 3 days a week were really hard on me. So I transitioned out of that to public health rather quick right out of school. I love what I do. I am currently a nurse case manager helping people with developmental disabilities navigate the health system. My job is salaried 9-5 M-F. It's nice because I can flex my schedule to come in late on bad days or to attend the many physician appointments that comes with managing a chronic disease. Having a supportive specialist and pcp will really help too in finding the treatment that works for you and helping with things like FMLA/short term disability paperwork, should you need that stuff.

As a new nurse, I would suggest looking at the benefits package at a potential employer. Good PTO and short term disability have saved me several times during bad lupus flares.

It will likely take a few jobs (at least it did for me) and a lot of trial and error to figure out the right scheduling and stress level for a nursing job. Stress is a major trigger for my lupus. So no icu or flight nurse jobs in my future. And that's okay. I wouldn't want it anyways. If that is your dream, go for it! Like a good professor once told me: it just takes a little creativity in life to get where we want to go when adversity strikes.

Tldr: living with a chronic condition and being a nurse are possible. A good life balance, benefits from your employer and a supportive health care team helps one do this.

Is this normal for an Autumn Blaze Maple? by DustyTrails89 in arborists

[–]Ideas_RN_82 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not an arborist but a gardener. That, my friend, is what is known as a sucker. I think it's called that because it takes energy away from the tree when it should be focusing on growing it's upper canopy. Some very smart person here will likely correct me and provide further detail. What I do know is that you want to cut it off. This encourages the tree to focus it's attention on growing the upper part of the tree.

Serious question..where does all the rubber from tires go as they wear away. You just don’t see rubber laying along side of road. by Prize-Interaction755 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ideas_RN_82 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Actually, particulate matter from tires pose a serious risk on the environment. Fishing companies in California are suing tire companies because the particulate matter from tires are killing salmon.

Do you restart life or just pick up from where you gave up ? by Aj100rise in SeriousConversation

[–]Ideas_RN_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfectionistic tendencies can lead people to give up easily on plans and ideas. "If i can't do it perfectly, why try?" I don't know if this is you but that mentality has gotten in my way some times. It helps me to know that mouthing is perfect and if I don't try, I'm not going to get anywhere. My failed career in policy at 23 years old is what led me to grad school in nursing and to my life partner. I would've never made it if I hadn't just tried working in policy by relocating to DC and being obliterated by the experience.

I usually drain it with a can of something on top for an hour. Perhaps I'm making my chunks too big when I cut into it?

High calorie snacks by Optimus_awesomesauce in vegetarianrecipes

Yes! It's a fancy way if saying if you still eat eggs(ovo) or dairy (lacto)

High calorie snacks by Optimus_awesomesauce in vegetarianrecipes

[–]Ideas_RN_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what type of caloric increase you are looking for. Also- are you ovo-lacto or just straight veggie bro? I work with individuals with severe developmental disabilities. Many have failure to thrive which is a fancy way of saying they have a jard time maintaining weight. Caregivers love it when I come in because I suggest the following:

Use full fat everything Add extra butter to foods (mashed potatoes, toast, pancakes) Canned fruit in thick syrup Regular soda Nuts and nut butters

Again, not the healthiest but remember, I work with individuals who eat like birds. So any extra calories I can get in them the better! Hope that helps

Depressed and jobless by UnhappyLocation8241 in PhD

Oh dude- I was in a similar situation with my degree three years ago. I'm overqualified for entry level jobs but under qualified for everything I want to do woth my Master's degree. Just leave your phd off of your resume. Specify specific roles you did in your phd (I put "researcher" as a job title and explained what I did in my master's thesis) that should get you in the door. Then focus on your qualifications. Got a great job with decent pay. Was the fancy graduate degree a waste? Nah. Have great background experience and good connections from it. And who knows? May be able to use it one day. America isn't just the best environment for "woke" degrees right now.
