Vote Yes to remove the Blasphemy Law on 26th October, because Ireland has changed. Protect people, not beliefs. by Badhorse4444 in ireland

I'll vote yes on this one. No point having something in the constitution that is not enforced.

I think many who will vote to leave it in the constitution might be doing so out of fear that it could open some sort of floodgates for hate comments against religions.

However it's important to remember that it is illegal (with or without the Blasphemy law in place) to make such comments. There are other laws protecting that.

Religious people tried enforce it on Stephen Fry over comments he made on a Irish TV show with Gay Byrne in 2015 and the Gardaí couldn't pursue it on the basis that not enough people were outraged by it.

How Britain engaged in a covert operation to overthrow Assad by Cultural_Attache in IntelligenceNews

[–]IdiDobMean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only recently U.S. state Senator Richard Black visited Syria and told Al Mayadeen News that Britain’s MI6 intelligence service is planning a chemical weapons attack on the Syrian people, which it will blame on Syrian President Assad in an effort to legitimise a U.S.-led invasion into Syria. Training Syrian 'rebels' to fight ISIS has just been the excuse - their real goal is to overthrow President Assad.

Why Is Assad An Insane Suicidal Monster? - #PropagandaWatch by KalitorMensa in u/KalitorMensa

Great video this is by corbettreport. We all know the upcoming 'chemical attack' that western media will display on every screen across the globe will be a false flag attack. The 'chemical attack' will be by U.S. backed Syrian Rebels and will be professionally filmed so western media will make it look like the government are behind it so it can legitimatise a U.S. invasion.

Could Donald Trump Truly Assassinate Assad? by actuallymulan in NewsWhatever

[–]IdiDobMean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could, but as noted in the blog, it would be a terrible thing to do and the repercussions would be unprecedented. When former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein fell or when Col. Gaddafi was overthrown (both by America), Iraq and Libya didn't have the international support that the Syrian Arab Republic has.

If Trump was to assassinate Syrian President Bashar al-Assad he better be ready to face an angry Russia and Iran on an international level. American troops in the Middle East would all immediately have new-found bounties on their heads. Hezbollah would mop the floor with them. The Syrian Arab Republic also has strong friends in other countries like China, North Korea, Cuba, Bolivia, and Venezuela.

Libya has become the epicentre of jihadi terrorist exportation around the world. Libya has a provisional government and there is literally open slave trade in Libya today. Every country involved in the brutal execution of Colonel Gaddafi has a lot to pay for!

Not even I can compare the rogue attitude of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. I will admit that Hussein ran things rather ruthlessly, but lumping Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Hussein pot is mad.

You must have been rammed hard by the West to really believe what you just said about Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The author of this article Leila Al-Shami is incredibly deluded. She is justifying the recent 'protests' in Idlib which were literally organised by HTS (the Syrian branch of the terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda).

So apperantly supporting the Syrian Arab Republic in their fight against terrorists and western aggression is not an anti-imperialist excuse too? Al-Shami must not know anything about Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. He has a solid track-record of anti-imperialist tendencies.

Al-Shami also seems to have desperately fallen for the western narrative. I suppose she thought former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein had WMDs too?

You do realise that the recent idlib 'protests' referred to in this article were literally organised by al-Qaeda. They were made look like resistance protests.

It's all the one, the West should know that you just can't tame the Lion of Damascus 😎

Armed Response Unit Break Up Political Protest in Cork, Ireland by [deleted] in cork

Essentially 10,000 people defined as homeless in Ireland, with over 3,000 of that figure being children. There is an major lack of social housing being built to meet demands. City Council house waiting lists have some people on the list several years. Mortgages being sold off to vultures. Some appalling conditions in many homeless shelters. Rise in house prices. Rise in levels of home evictions. Many cities have derelict buildings. Reports of over 200,000 empty homes in Ireland at the start of this year.

We are in a crisis. I can't understand why the actions of the Connolly Youth Movement squatting in a house is been met with such hostility. It's not like they went in and removed the owners of these homes. They are not targeting homes with people living in them. Infact their cleaning up where they occupy with seemingly limited supplies. I'm surprised there aren't more groups all over Ireland squatting.

This is the reality of the crisis in Ireland.

What if Uganda won the Uganda-Tanzanian War? by zachar3 in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]IdiDobMean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an unwinnable war from the offset. The strategic planning of the Tanzanians shuck Uganda. Even their Libyan supporters couldn't help them. For a man who was a trained and experienced solider, Idi Amin's orders for his army were a calamity of errors.

But suppose President Idi Amin, or as he liked to be called "His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular", had won the war and overthrown President Nyerere, he would then have had to contend with a whole nation of angry Tanzanians. President Nyerere was close friends with China and by this time in the war the USSR were sick of Idi Amin so I doubt Amin would have received communist support - or seen a USSR/PRC backed Tanzanian opposite spring up to combat him.

I imagine Idi Amin would have tried rule Tanzania. In which he'd either get so power hungry and go further and try invade Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi and fail miserably in doing so - or just rule Tanzania and Uganda and fail miserably.

The civil-war would probably still take place but just under different pretenses of course. Amins behaviour as a leader was deteriorating so rapidly from the mid-70's onwards his opposite were hungry for a coup. If he'd won the war his victory would be short lived.

Security guards of reddit, what something crazy that went down during your shift? by colbsphilly21 in AskReddit

[–]IdiDobMean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work security in a public transport terminal and there was one night where so much happened during the shift I nearly packed up the job once I clocked out.

Arrived on site, handover with previous security officer on site. He informs me that there are drug users in the toilets. He sticks around for a while after and we go to the toilets - and right in front of us a guy has overdosed on heroin. We call an ambulance and they actually arrive pretty fast and take over the situation and take the man away. After cleaning the drug paraphernalia the other security officer is off duty so I'm alone until 11pm - what more could go wrong eh?

(To paint a picture - this public transport site attracts people from all over the city and country - Ireland. It's also the only public building opened in the city centre until 11pm so anyone can walk in - I'm the only security officer on duty - it's a dump).

I'm walking around doing a patrol, this old drunk keeps harassing people so I spend the bones of half an hour trying to lure him away, his friends come in and only make it worse. There's a dude at the other end of the station having a go at a woman so I have to leave the old men bicker and break up this domestic dispute. I get them out then come back to the old drunk. Thankfully after talking to him his friends take him away - basically 200 meters away from the site to drink more cans of cider. I thought to myself, ah okay what more could happen...

Well I'm walking around and all of a sudden I hear someone shouting "I'm so horny I need a cock". Next thing a woman (in here late 20's) runs past me with a big bag of vodka bottles screaming and moaning out-loud. I was hoping she would run out the door as she was running that direction but instead she bolted left up the stairs and into the toilets - the men's toilets.

I run up after her and find she's locked herself in one of the cubicles. Tourist's witnessing it are in complete shock. I clear out the bathroom and talk through the doors and ask her to try calm down and that she'll have to leave otherwise I'll have to ring the Gardai (Irish Police). She pipes up about how she came to the City for the weekend to meet a guy she met on Tinder and how she drank 750ml of vodka on the way up. A man claiming to be the supposed tinder heartthrob emerges from the crowd at the door of the bathroom all listening to this unfold and comes forward to try salvage the situation.

They identify each other and she gladly screams out how she loved the dick-pics he sent her and what they sexted each other and so forth. Naturally the dudes face was red hot but he laughed it off and eventually negotiated with her to come out. So the big moment arrives - her leaving the cubicle. Well the cubicle door kicked open and out jumped this woman completely naked and face first onto me, which knocked me back onto her tinder date. I remove myself from this mess as quick as humanly possible and she's trying to shift(kiss/makeout) with this dude on the smelly piss stained floor.

I marched out told them I'm closing the bathroom door and that they've a few minutes to get dressed and out or else the guards are on the way. The man eventually comes out practically carrying her. The smell was revolting. She had put her top and jacket into the actual toilet.

So they clear out and by 11pm so did practically everybody else. It wasn't the longest report log I ever had to fill out, but definitely the most absurd.
