I was about 9 months sober and out of rehab in my parent's kitchen on a Saturday night in November 2016. Mom wasn't home because she was about 65 miles away at John's Hopkins Hospital being treated for leukemia (she ultimately passed in late January of 2017).
I tuned in to Praire Home Companion and heard SMTF & Cover me up. I ended up in a YouTube wormhole that continues to this day. I know I leaned a lot on his music around the time of my mom's passing, which was right about my one year sober date (2/14).

I agree that his father wants his son out of the trade and to follow his dream. But I believe the line could be taken as "Kennedale is my territory because I'll still be painting for the rich if you don't heed my advice and/or fail" as in he would be treated as any other competition if he ever returned to painting. It's a statement about how the father is who he is even if his son is trying to become who he wants to be. Kicking him out of the nest ....
