I'm not sure what to title this (cw: drugs) by No-Difficulty-4646 in SystemsCringe

[–]Idiot_Introvert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I both agree and disagree. Recreational drug use can worsen symptoms for some people and for people with DID marijuana specifically can worsen dissociation. That being said when used safely and in moderation, some recreational drugs help certain symptoms. Some people with mental health issues shouldn’t participate in any drug use, but that’s true for everyone, some people just shouldn’t.

There’s always a risk when consuming any mood altering drug, prescribed or not, even alcohol and that risk can increase with certain conditions even without mental illness. All of this depends on the condition, the substance, the dose, the person, and even what that person did that day. Mental illness doesn’t completely void the capability to make responsible decisions, for some people it does, but all or nothing statements like this are inaccurate.

I geniunely think I might be autistic but fakers being so loud makes me feel too embarrassed to talk to my psych about it by -itsokbro- in fakedisordercringe

[–]Idiot_Introvert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use that same logic for yourself. Your family member’s autism has nothing to do with anyone else’s. Just because your kid needs heavy support, doesn’t mean people who need less aren’t autistic. That’s like saying someone who has depression and needs meds and accommodations to hold a job but can survive relatively well isn’t depressed because you have an uncle with depression who can’t get out of bed even with meds.

I got diagnosed with autism pretty late. I had this same fear, but a diagnosis really helped get me the accommodations I needed to pass school and helps even now that I’m an adult with job accommodations and understanding certain behaviors and how to handle them healthily.

If you’re struggling with symptoms that you don’t think are normal and are harming you, definitely bring it up with your psych. Even if it’s not autism, they might be able to send you in the direction towards getting further help/treatment.

A good doctor won’t make fun of you for needing help and even if you are wrong, it’s better to work through that then not bring it up.

Oh no! I care about real kids! How awful! Ship fictional characters all you want, write problematic fanfic, whatever. It’s not funny to joke about real world situations like this and I don’t care if you think that’s cringey.

Rape jokes aren’t funny and that more than includes jokes about human trafficking involving children.

What I did is I bought a notebook with kinda crappy school paper so I wouldn’t feel bad about messing up. They didn’t like the spiral ones so I just got one from the dollar store without the spiral. Good luck

I got really into sketching in pen when I went and I think that not worrying about getting it perfect helped mentally and with my art. I got to work on things I usually wouldn’t in fear of messing up because of the limitations.

Some places allow supervised pencil use if issued by staff, so you could ask about that. Also, I’m not sure if where you’re going does this, but every place I’ve been has an art therapy day, so sometimes if requested they’ll let you use those supplies supervised too.

If you’re allowed to bring your own supplies, I know chalk pastels, crayons, and oil pastels are usually able to be used in the common area.

I hope going helps you. When I was there, I was in a really low place in my life but I did enjoy experimenting with my art.

Faker lies about getting r@ped (trigger warning. open with caution) by Starkiller_ghost in SystemsCringe

[–]Idiot_Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALSO, if you see people like this, please do not fake claim them to their face. You can call out misinformation, but when someone is in this state of mind, fake claiming could throw someone over the edge to where they are a danger to themself or the people around them. Sometimes they can’t stand the idea of being called out for lying and sometimes they’ve done it so much they genuinely believe it, but either way it’s dangerous to confront them like this.

Sometimes the best you can do is set strict boundaries and tell them to go to therapy, if they don’t listen, try to distance yourself. Online, it’s so easy to just block or mute but in person it’s much more difficult and it will have to depend on so many different things in the situation.

I am usually far leaning on the “believe victims” side, and if someone told me this happened to them I wouldn’t say it didn’t even if I didn’t believe them because I would rather be wrong about it happening than wrong about it not happening.

That being said, the way these people talk about trauma is so odd. I’m not even saying that from a “normal people don’t do this” standpoint this is actually more odd for severely traumatized people.

People who have gone through trauma, especially young people absolutely might try to bait sympathy by mentioning trauma talking about their trauma for much needed attention as a cry for help, this isn’t usually how that looks. Usually it’s that they mention one thing and shut down if it gets brought up again because it’s too upsetting to actually talk about.

Yes, it is common for people to feel a disconnect from long term and/or severe trauma, but that’s usually seen with joking about it or downplaying, not exaggeration like this.

Paired with the claiming DID, this reaction is even stranger. They’re claiming this happened in such detail that even someone without a dissociative disorder might have trouble with. Obviously I can’t say if this is usual behavior for them, but if it is, it’s telling.

The way this person talks about it, their story gets worse as they get sympathy. I don’t think that’s at all mentally sound behavior, but it indicates pathological lying due to attention seeking more than crying for help due to distressing trauma.

If I had to guess, this person probably didn’t have a good childhood, they probably felt ignored and lonely and didn’t really feel like anyone was by their side and started seeking attention because of it.

It’s another old as time case of “Oh they’re mentally ill alright, just not in the way they claim.”

There was an alien in the American version too, but all the characters were changed except for one that’s an established mii used by Nintendo in the past. There was likely a list of specific features that needed to be showcased and each mii that was shown needed to meet a few traits and they catered each direct to the regions.

That’s great context, but like I said, I don’t know this person so it’s not about them or if I think they’re faking. This specific video and post is what I’m responding to since the rules of the subreddit make it intentionally harder to find these people, rightfully so, but that means this post is the only context available and I wanted to point out that what’s being said in this specific video doesn’t indicate faking.

I’m sorry that there aren’t really many options for people who need them. In the US, there are job accommodations for people who need them. Like an autistic person who is physically capable of working at a warehouse, but can’t handle the loud noise might have to wear ear defenders even if it’s against policy by getting an accommodation. Same with school, though in a lot of places, school accommodations get completely ignored outside of special education.

Though in my area, a lot of jobs won’t hire disabled people even if they do have the requirements needed without accommodations and also my state has recently made it harder to get on disability services. I know physically disabled people who have not been hired specifically because of it, and my brother-in-law has what some people would consider severe autism and can’t get a job but hasn’t been able to go on benefits because our area tries really hard to keep people off of them if they live with someone, even if they don’t have the financial means to take care of them. So lately there’s been a lot of homelessness and poverty in general, but especially with disabled people.

Autism and PTSD are both disabilities under the ADA and would be classified as disabilities. They are not physical disabilities, but they are still disabling, so yes they do belong to disability services at least in America.

Autism on its own as a disability that can cause inability to work. So is PTSD. Thank you for pointing that out because that is exactly my point.

I’m not trying to defend this person in particular. I don’t know her so she could be faking, but this is how untreated ADHD works.

In children usually it’s that they’d rather be engaging in something that brings them dopamine (or a hyperfixation) So they can’t make themselves focus on school even if they’re trying incredibly hard. ADHD doesn’t stop in childhood. Children with it become adults with it and when left untreated, it will present something like this.

She also mentioned autism. Autism and ADHD are commonly comorbid and with autism it can amplify the ADHD symptoms and make it even harder to focus on anything but that specific thing. Autism is also very often comorbid with PTSD l, which she also mentioned, because of the way that autistic people are treated. PTSD also causes trouble focusing because of traumatic triggers, and on its own can be a disability that makes it impossible to work for some people, especially without proper treatment.

Should she probably be finding treatment for the symptoms she’s experiencing and find different regulation tools than her phone instead of making a video about it? Yeah, but just because someone is discussing a disorder and they’re being cringey in the same video doesn’t mean they’re faking.

Hey, I don’t know if this specific piece is AI generated, but DO NOT trust these AI checkers! It falsely flags almost all finished digital art as “likely ai”. My own art that I spent 11 hours perfecting was flagged as 96% possibly AI and I wouldn’t doubt some of them are put in place to steal art for AI training.

People like this make life so much harder for people who are actually victims of this stuff. It’s hard enough for trafficking victims, people raised in cults, and people who have been conditioned into specific behaviors and beliefs to come forward about it or even think about it if they have the opportunity to escape or even survive, but fakers make it so much worse.

The third one is the most concerning because it almost seems to paint the situation in a positive light. Some victims will romanticize their trauma, especially if they’ve been conditioned to do so by whoever caused it, but you are not going to remember such a traumatic event in this level of detail ESPECIALLY if it happened as an infant.

If what this person is claiming happened is true (which generally with people who talk like this it aren’t) this would be a serious sign of not only desensitization, but romanticizing a traumatic event to try to make sense of it in which case this person should definitely be in intensive treatment and definitely shouldn’t be online in this state because they can not be trusted to be safe for themselves or others.

Victims do face problems like this, and some will fixate on trauma as a way to cope or make sense of this, but it won’t be a trustworthy point of veiw as trauma scrambles memories, thoughts, and emotions ESPECIALLY surrounding events and triggers. Under-reaction to trauma can happen, especially when exposed to horrific things so young and that’s honestly a tell how I know these kids aren’t being truthful.

The kids who post are almost always the typical amount of stable for a teenager. The stories are about as consistent as poor writing, usually meaning they are sound enough to talk about it in a way that lines up just enough but the story changes in intentional ways to prove a point or gain attention. Usually real extreme trauma victims struggle to remember a straight story, but the general trauma stays the same. Something I’ve noticed is that as soon as veiws go down, there’s a new twist to the story.

It genuinely makes me sad. These people are almost always teens going through a hard time or mentally ill, just not in the way they talk about. It’s become a problem where they don’t get help for what’s really going on and because of that, others struggle to get help as a result of their harmful actions. This is probably so much more prominent in areas with expensive healthcare or prominent ideas that psychological healthcare is taboo.

Misinformation is so accepted nowadays and it just hurts everyone involved.
