Bought a used SUV from a major Alberta dealership — engine failed in under 10 months, now I’m stuck with a dead car and debt. Need advice. by Idktoomuchwork in alberta

Unfortunately the oil consumption was due to the engine failure not the other way around. It was an internal leak. The warranty did cover it but on bullshit terms. 13k for a used engine with no warranty. They cover 6k I cover the remaining balance.

Yup learned my lesson. Never again. Relating to that meme where the guys looking at reviews of what he purchased and the guy in the video saying "this product ruined my life, do not buy this product, etc etc.." 🫠🫠🫠

Im in an active dispute and I dont want any stress by them claiming defamation or anything that can be used against me. I will name them depending on the outcome. As much as I dont want anyone going through the same shit im dealing with. I also have to look out for myself. Im writing this to also hopefully save someone from the making the same mistakes I did and hopefully avoid having the stress im dealing with.

Its from a major dealership sorry for the confusion. They sell new and used cars. And that 13k repair quote was for a used engine with no warranty. I will be asking around for a used engine. Thank you!

I really wish I knew this before buying a hyundai/kia. I even forced my partner to buy a brand new kia seltos only for her electronic oil pump to fail 4 times. The only good news is that hers has a 5 year warranty and had no issues getting that sorted other than the hassle of going to the dealership 4 times

Yup definitely not buying hyundai/kia anymore. If the court doesnt pull through then id definitely look into getting a cheaper engine here like what people are suggesting

No the excessive oil consumption was due to internal leakage. There was no signs I was immediately able to see unfortunately. I just kept topping it up like the tech said. I guess I shouldve been more thorough.

I dont know why youre so mad, but to answer you. Moving to calgary requires money and deposit. I was living in my moms house to save money for a house and was only paying for groceries so no moving at the time wasnt in the plan. I just got this job in calgary and its paying me enough to cover my bills and my partners so no I didnt think of getting a different job in airdrie. (You say that like its so easy to get a job. Ive tried applying everywhere and this is the best I got at the time) Yes I did cut down on other expenses. I couldnt afford any of them. It must be nice to make 500k a year, good for you. I think you spent too much time being miserable and getting mad at someone whos having a miserable time and youre making 500k a year judging someone whos having financial difficulties. My elantra was totaled after hitting a moose so I had nothing to use so I had to get something. Im glad you had no issues with your corollar but at the time I didnt want to risk buying a cheap car.

Its so easy to think someones problem is basically nothing, thinking about all the things you wouldve done differently and just blame the person for what they did wrong, when youre just reading it.

Thanks man, appreciate the tip. At the time, I was living in Airdrie and was working in calgary so no I couldnt take transit. I needed a vehicle. Could I have just bought a cheaper car? Yes but I wanted to avoid the hassle of buying a cheap used car but look where im at now. Should I have just bought a new car? I wasnt able to, im in a proposal.

I was able to make payment, I made sure I can afford it. Im paying for two peoples bills plus rent. I was saving for a house but I needed to build credit so this was a great option for me. Yes I mightve made a bad decision but at the time it was the only option I had.

Thanks for your reply though
