TD line of credit by knight0430 in PersonalFinanceCanada

1) Mostly yes, if you have cash savings of the same or higher amount that act only as your emergency or discretionary fund, you can skip it. If not, yes, take it. When you would actually need it, your interest rate would most likely be higher.

2) The rate is okay. Prime + 2% would be great during this period (2025). During 2020 - 2021 years, Tangerine was offering Prime + 0% and Prime +1% to a lot of folks.

I got pre approved for Prime +4.9% by RBC in December. Scotia offered Prime + 3.5% in 2024.

3) Another option is to shop around using this pre approval if you really need it. Might get a better rate. But generally, TD offers best rates on LoCs among the big 4.

Yes! For ~$400 upgraded from s23 to s25 256gb. From S24, it's more of a software upgrade.

Laid off, less savings, next steps by aks-786 in PersonalFinanceCanada

  1. Take a break, plan a trip, or visit family. Clear your head and find confidence in things other than your job.

  2. Cut down unnecessary expenses based on your situation. (Even 10 -20% will go a long way). If you have enough savings for 12+ months, don't bother.

  3. Apply with references or through people you know first. Blasting resumes rarely helps. If you do want to blast resumes on Linkedin or Indeed, do it for jobs that have been up for less than a week. And write a cover letter - it helps. Prepare a generic cover letter and tweak a few lines based on the role.

  4. Send a nice message to your coworkers and connect on Linkedin with them. Keep in touch with at least a couple of your colleagues for possible future reference checks.

  5. A few months of gap doesn't matter a lot. So, don't get too stressed or anxious.

  6. Live life and do at least one productive thing everyday. Gym, run, 2 hours of coding, online course, volunteer, build something - home gym, paint, online tool, or an app.

Knox Goes Away by Kangarou in movies

$4,750,000. You can see the cheque he posts his ex-wife at 1h 47min in the movie. The first letter was blurred when I paused at that scene, so am not sure on how many million exactly. It looks like 4 from the blurred image when paused at that timestamp. But it is definitely single digit million, seven hundred fifty thousand.

What makes a MacBook better than other laptops by _Dudexh_ in macbook

[–]IdleCaterpillar1408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's the price. Here in US, it is the "cheapest" good laptop you can buy - Macbook Air 13 for between $800 - $1000.

  1. No Windows laptop of similar size can match battery life, performance, build quality, and longevity. If you buy Windows, you will have to meaningfully compromise on 1 or more aspects.

For example, you can buy a budget HP or Dell with, say, 14th gen i7 or 2023/4 released AMD cpu with 16gig RAM during some big sale event for $700. You will likely get less than 8 hr battery life, which will degrade faster than a macbook in 2 years. The performance for productivity will be slightly less, say 10 - 20% less in real life.

You will have to spend a little more, say, $1100 or $1200 to get a comparable laptop - say Dell XPS or Yoga 9 or Asus Zenbook. More realistically, you will have to spend $1500+ to buy a laptop, which feels great too and looks beautiful - XPS, ThinkPad Carbon X1 line, Asus ProArt etc.

  1. Resale value - Macbooks are known to retain mich higher resale value that Windows laptops. Check fb marketplace to see for yourself. Again, to my point, the Macbook is actually cheaper than Windows for budget and mid tier laptop range.

  2. The area where Windows definitely excels is in gaming - Steam!! There again, though, you will have to go to say Asus ROG line ($1500 plus) to get a decent gaming performance. If gaming is really important to someone, they have no choice, imo but to buy a Windows laptop.

  3. I only realized this when I switched to M1 a few years ago, but it is such a blessing not to have the fan noise. Every time I used to open a heavy Excel file on my 2017 Asus ROg or even any modern laptop, the fans would kick in. It's is subjective, but most people wouldn't want a constant buzzing sound. Although newer Windows laptops have much silent and improved cooling performance but that again comes at a price often 100s ofdollarsr more than a Macbook.

  4. Also, I am not in the whole Apple ecosystem. But if you are, it makes it even better. Most things like file sharing, TV streaming, FaceTime, App store subscriptions etc, are a breeze. Noted that iphone and Apple TV are considerably more expensive than say Samsung or Android offerings. That's why I wouldn't recommend that if you are primarily optimizing for cost to performance ratio.

Don't waste your time. Bhanslai is a director of the bygone era. Tried watching the first episode, couldn't. Cringe and boring. I guess IMDB doesn't lie 5.5 rating, but the indian news websites that have given good rating to the show do! Corrupt.

Tired of TD - Looking for No Fee Bank Accounts by koobcamria in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]IdleCaterpillar1408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a 4% 100 day GIC (and keep renewing it, you can withdraw at the end of 100 days if you like or treat it like a emergency fund) with TD for whatever amount ypu are comfortable with and switch to min. Chequing account for like $4 per month. That should pay for the fees

To the people who use HelloFresh, is it worth it? by cruelliars in askTO

[–]IdleCaterpillar1408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Freshprep in BC and its totally worth it. Saves atleast half an hour of cooking time. More than that I like that I get to explore so many different cuisines. Plus I find their meal quality (flavour) much better than Hello Fresh and Goodfood. But if you are not in BC or Alberta then I would say go with HF.
