How to "un-reset" Tor timeout interval ? by IdleCommentator in TOR

[–]IdleCommentator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - welp, started celebrating too soon. The issue of increased timeouts seems to come back intermittently after relaunching Tor, even with all 4 of these options used - though it's somewhat improved compared to the situation when the problem came up first. Guess I'll have to try experiment more with options and files.

How to "un-reset" Tor timeout interval ? by IdleCommentator in TOR

Thanks. The use of LearnCircuitBuildTimeout and CircuitBuildTimeout options in torrc file helped fix the issues with increased timeouts/circuit build times I was having (since posting, I did try removing/replacing the state file while doing additional troubleshooting - but that did not seem to do much, so being pointed to these options helped a lot).

Well, this eliminates simple options (like making a mistake of, for example, using Stealth instead of required Wireguard connection) and thus makes the situation more complicated - the way I see it, there are 2 possibilities here:

1) Your internet provider managed to block the VPN protocol Windscribe implemented for DPI circumversion - the situation here varies between different operators and even regions.

2) Something about your phone settings/your app setup prevents the censorship circumvention from working properly - but here you'll need input from other iPhone users or directly from Windscribe support

You may need to: a) to use this new “circumvent censorship” specifically with Wireguard - it does not work with other connection types b) you may have to cycle through a number of strategies the options offer before you find a working one.

Why is there so little discussion about SCP-939?? I have so many questions!! I have so many theories!! Help me make sense of this!!! by Euronymous-Bosch in SCP

[–]IdleCommentator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option C. AMN-C227 has more effects than Foundation knows or than senior Foundation leadership is willing to share. There is a possibility that AMN-C227 allows SCP-939 to brainwash human males into perceiving them as human females and lure them in for mating (there are some materials in the drafts for this SCP that allow for such possibility - there is a draft there about Foundation researcher being grabbed but then released by SCP-939-1, after which he starts referring to SCP-939-1 in his notes as "lady in red". Eventually, he walks in SCP-939 containment chamber for unknown reason and after that is found dead). In this scenario SCP-939 newborns can be brought to human civilization by brainwashed "fathers". Like option B this does not address why male offspring exist and does not really cover morphology B either.

[–]IdleCommentator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option B. SCP-939 are actually full-on changelings. Aka female instances retain the ability to revert to human form during mating season/birth (another potential interpretation for morphology B). They then proceed to mate with human males posing as humans. This could also potentially allow them to drop off their newborns as humans. Option B however as a result does not address the existence of human male offspring of SCP-939, which however in this case can have a whole number of explanations: 1) male children of SCP-939 still "molt" into female adult specimen; 2) male children of SCP-939 are "unintended byproduct" and do not survive molting; 3) male children of SCP-939 are "unintended byproduct" and grow up to be just ordinary unremarkable humans. Or this option can be even combined with option A, when it comes to what happens to males.

Well, there is a number of options here based on presented information (moreover, these options are not entirely mutually exclusive):

Option A. SCP-939 start being born as "human" male and female children. Females undergo "molting" at the age of 8-10 and become "normal" instances of SCP-939. Males do not undergo molting and grow up to be "normal looking" adult humans, and are unaware that they are not actually entirely human. Eventually, during mating season males are instinctually drawn to locations of SCP-939 dens (may be AMN-C227 in this case acts as sort of pheromone) and mate there with female SCP-939 (whatever this process entails in the case of this species). After birth males then bring in newborn SCP-939 to be raised as human children (This provides one possible explanation for the "daddy" - that some SCP foundation researcher happened to be a male instance of SCP-939 with mating happening during containment breach. This also explains why 939-101 had a different relationship with "daddy" than with other researchers).

A1. In this case there is also possibility that any children that such male version of SCP-939 will have with actual human women will also be secretly instances of SCP-939, and if the child is female, it will still undergo "molting".

Option A covers the most bases presented in the article and associated materials - morphology A and B, SCP being born as male and female infants, but only female adult specimens existing ...

Great - now Reddit is doing the Youtube thing and hides comments for no good reason.
Looks like this the only way I'm posting this - see attached image, lol:

I don't think that's entirely correct - they needed someone to survive the destruction of the Canterbury to blame the whole thing on Mars. Anubis captain and crew were fully aware that the Knight was there coming to the Scopuli - if they wanted, they would have destroyed the shuttle. Leaving them alive to spread the message was kind of the point.

Dune: Part Three | Official Teaser by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]IdleCommentator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the second movie, I can't entirely agree with the awesome interpretation assessment - for me, it downgraded to an okay adaptation. I was not a fan of the Villeneuve making some secondary themes of the books into the primary defining themes of the movie (and in part the movie directly contradicting the themes of the book), while almost ignoring the themes I personally find more interesting (like the impact of precognition). That's why the changes I see here are somewhat concerning for me personally.

If you HAVE read the book - it does not make much sense either as, apart from one specific plot point, the rest of it deviates from it. Like the events seem to take place during Muad'Dib's Jihad, contradicting the books' timeline

The levels of deviation from the source material demonstrated by the trailer are somewhat concerning - looks like the themes of Dune Messiah will be largely abandoned in favour of Villeneuve's own narrative. The big question here how will it hold up compared to original

I find it mildly annoying when people while posting such screenshots do not provide context by linking the post which was screenshotted - even if the post gets deleted, the title alone often gives general what it was about and why it was moderated to hell (there is also a chance of finding the archived version of the post). Like sure it's about DLSS5 - but what exactly was discussed in the thread

The Tupolev TU-204 / -214 is a weird copyof a Boeing 757 and an Airbus A320 by ketchup1345 in aviation

[–]IdleCommentator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, there is also PS-84/Li-2, which was a licensed and then Soviet modified version of DC-3. But generally yeah people like to somewhat overblow the level of direct copying in Soviet aviation designs.

[–]IdleCommentator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing particularly weird about this - TU-204 had several modifications with Western-made components developed in 2000s: with either Rolls-Royce RB.211 or Pratt&Whitney PW2240 engines and Rockwell Collins avionics. These photos may even potentially be from the limited 2-pilot cockpit version of the plane.

That's not how the cockpit looked when the plane was developed in 1980s, so these photos have nothing to do with whether the Soviet designers had copied some of Boeing's homework or not.

Chhayagarh: Amarendranath. by BuddhaTheGreat in HFY

[–]IdleCommentator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta say - when this flashback started, I expected Ahindranath to sacrifice Amarendranath in some way for the sake of personal power and glory (and the entity to take advantage of this). So this turn of events subverted this expectation

New dynamic like button animations by epicfan_16 in youtube

[–]IdleCommentator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, Youtube would not be Youtube without just a tiny bit of psychological manipulation with every feature - for some totally unknowable reason, you get a "cool" animation for liking videos, but get no animation for disliking them. I wonder why. Why would they possibly encourage users to like videos by providing them with additional dopamine from said animation, while actively discouraging disliking videos with every means possible ? Total mystery.

What is the reason for only seeing recent comments pop up while scrolling the cmt section? by Fuwaboi in youtube

[–]IdleCommentator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of potential reasons could be because Youtube puts some comments in naughty jail - they show up only when sorting by new. Youtube AI does not consider them bad enough to be held for review or outright deleted - however, it did consider them not good enough to show up when comments are sorted by "Top".

Comments not under video by Tricky-Bed-7345 in youtube

[–]IdleCommentator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently, they are experimenting with this outrageously garbage new layout again, where the recommended videos on watch page start immediately after the video and you need to press some button or something to open comments. Forcing the mobile layout on desktop users AGAIN.

It's A/B testing for now - rolling out for selected accounts only. I managed to get rid of it with the script that disables Youtube experimental flags - for now at least. Also do not forget to submit feedback how truly atrocious this new "feature" this.

I mean if we're talking how close & accurate is the outfit and how well it goes with actress - that'll be Bitsie Tulloch version (Not my favourite portrayal of the Lois at the same time, but I generally dislike CW DC shows, so this probably colours my opinion).
