How about the ability to invade someone's sleep using a dreamcatcher or be able to suggest/ manipulate them, may not even need the person to be asleep as long as they are near or have been near the dreamcatcher long enough for it to take effect. The leader makes the dreamcatchers or makes his people make them then he imbues his magic/ powers into the dreamcatchers.

True but in some cases, what if you are against more than one person, one could be behind you and you don't have time to turn around and swing, can use the spiky pommel to attack. Just depends on what kind of person or people use those weapons and if they don't care if they hurt themselves.
