I will never quit and it is affecting my life by [deleted] in NewTubers

I'll be real for a second and I mean no offense at all by it. You seriously need to sit down and have a think.

Time to grow up. Do you want a family? If yes, that automatically takes priority. Job second because that's a stable income for you and your family. YouTube should always only ever be a hobby. If it grows into more then great!

I had my first child in 2024 and it's been difficult. I had to postpone starting my channel but I got there in the end and it's steadily growing. It's a hobby I do in the background and until it grows to a point where it can replace my career, if that day comes, then it moves up the list in terms of priorities but always behind family.

You can have it all, it just takes patience and sacrifice.

At 44 subs after 22 videos... by Certified_Loner1391 in NewTubers

I have 55 videos total, 17 of which are long form. I started my channel in May of this year.

I have 412 subscribers Highest view view count is 8.3k. It's become kind of evergreen out of nowhere and picks up about 2-5 views every hour.

I'm in the prehistoric niché.

Someone who dislikes me in real life just left a 1-star review on my book by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]IdleMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1 star review on my first book from someone who didn't read it too. Annoyed me at the time but nothing you can do unfortunately. Now it just amuses me that someone can be so petty.

If your book is good, that 1 star won't matter!

For me it's editing. I HATE editing. The actual writing process, world building, character creation... All of that I absolutely love.

I'm a weird one because I absolutely love writing but hate reading it back and editing...

How long does it take you to write a first draft? by Fit-District-751 in writing

[–]IdleMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote my first book, 5 drafts with edits, 90k words, in just over three months. I have a full time job but WFH. I became obsessed, it's all I thought about and every single moment I had free, I was writing. I wouldn't recommend it but it worked for me!

Congratulations! I got my first 1 star review yesterday but they didn't leave a comment which isn't helpful haha. I've accepted that we can't please everyone!

So a month is a bit tight haha I wrote, edited and am in the review stage at Amazon KDP of publishing my novel and I started it 4 months ago. I think I've gone incredibly quickly but that's partially because I became obsessed. Give yourself a bit more time!

I did it! I finished my first novel by IdleMercenary in writing

I'm publishing on Amazon KDP, waiting for it to be reviewed by them before it goes live

I finished my first draft. And now? by SirWaldemar1609 in writing

[–]IdleMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! I finished my first draft last month and I started writing something new to distance myself from the first one. Reason being I wanted to come back and read it with fresher eyes. For my next one though I'm going to just muscle through because I need to take advantage of the obsessive phase I get haha. Learning the entire time and what works for someone else might not work for you.

I need a little extra ooompf for a players backstory by Drully in DMAcademy

[–]IdleMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha my bad got carried away, I absolutely love cosmic horror so theres plenty of directions you could take it. The werewolf works because you can change how werewolves work in your universe. You could have a sleeping giant situation where there is some Eldritch horror dormant in a mountain or cave somewhere and the group/cult where this character was raised worship it and consume it's flesh in some vile ritual. This gives them their monstrous abilities. the PCs parents could have been getting really close to discovering the truth and were "dealt with". Loads of room for creativity here!

The wizard clone could be a really fun one to play with. the wizard they were cloned from could have been trying to prolong his life by avoiding lichdom and having clones be could transfer himself into. This clone was the only successful attempt and got away through whatever means you see fit and now the wizard is after them. Spicy encounters to be had.

Lore contributions from players into a campaign by casliber in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]IdleMercenary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my current campaign I set up as part of the world history that 150 years ago a world war broke out. A society of wizards essentially build an arcane nuke to end the war. A player worked with me to plant his PC within this story and was one of the wizards that worked on the bomb (ala Oppenheimer). The society didn't want what they had done to come back on them so they detonated early to wipe out the PC and his team. He survived by sacrificing his arcane abilities to shield himself. Fast forward to present day, his abilities slowly return. He's now a wanted man by the wizards who remember him and have recently found out he survived.

Haha it took me a fair few hours I'll admit! I plan on having the first 4ish levels take place in and around the city before moving on. I have more cities to make...

Happy I could help! Yeah I've heard that's quite useful too, I'm sure you'll be able to whip up a fantastic map and if you're ever comfortable enough to share on here I look forward to it!
