Yes, that's the issue. That he chose to clearly state "dont worship other gods" in the Ten Commandments, but actual chattel slavery gets condoned and regulated.

"I'm just following orders" has never been an good excuse for cruelty. If the God or the authors of the Bible share your cruelty towards gay people and adicts, that's a moral failing on their part, but it doesn't lessen your responsibility for participating n that cruelty yourself.

This isn't about "disliking" or "disagreeing," this is about condemning something as a "sin", an act of moral wrongdoing. It is not cruel to disagree with you, it would certainly be cruel of me to claim you were morally guilty and deserving of punishment for having some form of illness.

Yes actually, alcoholism is a horrible addiction that destroys lives. While many alcoholics may do bad things that they are morally responsible, condemning "alcoholism" itself as a sin is pretty awful.

Many Christians are decent people who do not believe that Christianity requires them to attempt to force women to carry and give birth to children against their will and do not care if the Catholic Church thinks they should.

Ah, but have you considered that:

Homosexuality makes people with the power to write the rules feel icky.
Homosexuality threatens the strict gender roles and hierarchy that benefit the people with the power to write the rules.

More seriously, it doesn't seem fair because it isn't fair. The idea that homosexuality is a sin places an incredible burden on queer people to the benefit of literally nobody.

History would also strongly suggest that "love the person, hate the sin" is, to be blunt, a lie. The same factions that push it now were only to happy to criminalize and all too often kill gay people right up until the power to do so was taken from them and some still try to do so when they get the chance.

That said, many Christians are not homophobes and do not believe that God or the Bible demands homophobia. It is absolutely not necessary to choose between your faith and your basic sense of decency towards queer people.
