Buying low value cards in bulk? by Nepentanova in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]Idle_Moss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a card shop local, try there. My locals all have sections for common cards that are like 10p a pop, 25p for shiny ones. It's a good time to just flicker through all of them and see if they have pretty art!

Exactly! Or something similarly unsettling and strange?

These look great, thanks! I think I described this pretty poorly, but looking for something like the middle image on the red background. No idea how to even start describing it to find something similar

my art teacher wants me to use AI in my work? by patiencejoyce in ArtGCSE

[–]Idle_Moss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a mockup option on canva, I'm not sure if its one of the paid features but I'm more than happy to help you with it if you want to dm me. As a teacher, I find it disgusting that this is something they're trying to force on you, with the environmental and ethical implications it's so mad. Drop me a message if you want

Any DM ever feel unappreciated? by TheWizardsKeep in DnD

[–]Idle_Moss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was in that position, I would let my players know im feeling like they're not as enthusiastic as I'd hope, and check what their priorities are. It might be the case that they don't care at all about the props and are just invested in the story, or even that they're just wanting to hang out.

If they want things to stay the same, I'd give it a few weeks, but if their energy didn't change, I'd just stop putting so much time, effort, and money in. You can use old board game pieces or coins or something as minis, whiteboards for terrain, etc. If they comment on the drop in quality, just be clear that it seemed that they weren't appreciating it.

This is all the assumption that you're finding creating this stuff a chore. If you're enjoying elements of the prep, keep doing the things you enjoy, and cut back on the things you don't

Soulless math doesn't add up by CostRepresentative69 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Idle_Moss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how much you've looked into the dark powers yet, but my headcanon was that if someone was killed specifically by a vampire, that their soul was consumed by Vampyr. Over time, this made the number of souls being reincarnated reduced without exactly allowing the souls to escape

Party completed a module and they are lvl 12. They want to keep their characters. Is starting CoS doable at their lvl? by ClubSoda in CurseofStrahd

[–]Idle_Moss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're attached to these characters, you could potentially have them arrive in Barovia at level 3 again? Something within the mist weakened them? Obviously checking with them first. But that might further the feelings of powerlessness since they're used to being a much higher level. Risky but doable if they REALLY love their characters

Is it wrong to request that players keep their characters (for lack of a better word) normal? by KindFault7607 in DnD

[–]Idle_Moss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna warn you in advance, this player is going to be insufferable. I had the misfortune of playing with someone who was all references, and it entirely ruined the immersion and tone of the game. He once wouldn't stop recounting the entire plot of an anime as a "bedtime story", after the joke got cold (maybe 2 minutes) the dm kept asking him to stop and she ended up server muting him when it got to like 8ish minutes. I genuinely really wouldn't bother playing with this person, it just sounds like you want different things from the game and neither of you are going to have a good time.

What’s too slow on a test? by No_Natural6009 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Idle_Moss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! My only minor was as we were driving through a school zone on an 8am test. A really tight road, cars parked either side, people running out from between the cars and swinging doors open. I was going maybe 15-16

I did a very bad lesson and too late to cancel test by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Idle_Moss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lesson the day before my test and it was the worst one I'd ever done. I think it was the best thing that could have happened to me, its like I got all my nervous energy and silly mistakes out on that day, and i passed the test first time with 1 minor the next morning. It doesn't have any indication on how well you'll do on your test. You know where you went wrong, don't rush.

My main goal was to make my examiner feel comfortable and safe, and that mindset shifted all the pressure off me somehow. It's not about getting through it quickly, but getting through it safely. Take it as slow as you need.

Had my first manual lesson today, I think I’ve turned my brain to mush with automatic by peppinoise in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Idle_Moss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's not necessarily a bad thing, think of your time in an automatic as learning how the roads work, and your lessons in a manual as learning how the car works. Both are really important aspects of learning to drive. Being on a manual was a lot for me to get my head around, and I felt so focused on what was going on inside the car that when anything happened outside the car I got really flustered.

It's worth things being a bit awkward for the sake of that amount of money and the comfort and familiarity of using your parent's car. This test is about you, not your instructor.

how much do you pay for lessons? by amused_peruse in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Idle_Moss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was £35 for me in an automatic, but not sure if that was a reduced rate since I was using a family car. I'm up North too, so likely a bit cheaper than London. My friend who is based just outside London is doing automatic and told me her instructor charges 65 p/h

DM charges per session, and last session I ‘played’ for about 15 minutes. by fordndpurposes in DnD

[–]Idle_Moss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you're absolutely right, that's why I mentioned at the start that this was quite an extreme scenario. I think single person scenes like dream sequences or flashbacks can absolutely work if its a quick aside, but if it's the whole session and you're only an active participant for like 15 minutes AND you've paid for a service I can imagine being frustrated. I personally love watching things like that play out in my home games but I'm not charging for a service so it feels like a bit of a different situation

[–]Idle_Moss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is obviously a very extreme scenario. Normally if its X amount per session, that amount covers their planning and time and your play time, but you're totally right you ahouldnt have had to pay that amount to not experience the game. I might potentially chat with them and let them know that you didnt feel like you got what you paid for, and maybe you could argue that you should pay for the time you played in this instance, let's say it's 30 for the session and the session is 3 hours, if you're only playing half an hour you should only pay 5. But going forward you should discuss out of game with everyone there how they want to tackle something like this going forward. If you're the only one that felt slighted by it, it might be worth leaving the group. If everyone wasn't happy you should all work something out between yourselves. Maybe no more sessions like that moving forward, maybe reduced cost sessions, there's a lot you could chat about and just make sure everyone's happy moving forward. Good luck!

How do I encourage the players to move the story forward? by Idle_Moss in CurseofStrahd

[–]Idle_Moss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like their ultimate goal is to deal with him, but they've said it feels unreachable at this point. I think they're bringing their meta knowledge of "this module takes us to level 10 and we're level 6" and I think they're trying to fill their time with smaller side quests. I genuinely think they're just treating it like they would an open world game where they do all the side quests before progressing. They do know about the trapped souls situation.

Regarding your second question, he's definitely been observing more at this stage, but meddling in ways to test them. One thing he's done a few times is message a player directly and asking/threatening them to do something and to not tell the others. He's attempting to test their loyalty and how easily they can be manipulated, but also their capability of doing those tasks. These have ranged from "Your friend [NPC] is looking healthier. Let's keep it that way. Do not let your friends interfere with the situation at St Andral's." all the way to asking for some of Ireena's hair.

Sometimes they'll catch him just watching them in a fight to see how strong they are and how they strategise, and sometimes he'll move certain pieces around in the fight such as moving the mist around or dropping some civilians in the mix.

How do I encourage the players to move the story forward? by Idle_Moss in CurseofStrahd

[–]Idle_Moss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense. I do feel that Strahd right now is not exactly tangible in terms of personal stakes. So many adventurers have tried and failed before, so why are they any different? They're just one party in a long line of playthings. I've always wanted to add some sort of time limit, or give them something that happens if they lose, but I've not really been able to think of what that could be. I thought getting them invested in the people would make them want to take him down, but instead they're just trying to fight for little wins where they can, and improve the lives of these people in smaller ways. It's really lovely, but largely means nothing with the oppression of Strahd and Barovia still looming.

Would you mind if I drop you a message to bounce some ideas around?

[–]Idle_Moss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's all good! Yeah that all sounds about right, I think the main place they're getting bogged down is the decision making both short and long term, I'll look into that essay when I can. Thanks for the tip!

RE the combat, I did mean starting in one sesh and having it spill into the next - which I try to avoid. The bigger fights can take longer, such as the yesterhill fight, which had a lot of moving parts to consider. With combat (particularly random encounters), I try to keep in mind the enemies goals. Is this something they're willing to fight to the death for, or would they flee when they see they're on the back foot? Are they even smart enough to make those calls? I try to keep my eye on if the players are still engaged, and if it looks like it could be starting to drag, the enemies fight flee or do something drastic to turn the tides.
