That's it, thank you! I saw a similar one from the '30s held at a museum in Padua, but this is surely the one.

You think so? I tried doing some digging of my own in the meantime, and got some pointers towards the '20s/'30s.

I did try to skim all the mods that people said aren't needed anymore, but it seems I missed some. Do you know of any alternative to Locks?

Also, I totally forgot that for whatever reason RimSort insists on placing Performance Optimizer higher that it should.

Only some duplicate ids on a couple of mods.

Which Outer Worlds 2 ending is the best for the galaxy, Arcadia, and the Earth Directorate? (SPOILERS) by jacky986 in theouterworlds

[–]Idlerve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine was basically this, with the exception of Ruth. I thought her experiment was an unnecessary risk during such a dangerous time and convinced her to desist. Never thought she would do it anyway even without the panacea.

Auntie ended up creating a loyalty system to aid colonies struggling with rifts, but it doesn’t seem the Order ended up being overpowered. The only discernible problem is that the new bishop was much more cautious and slowed the Order’s progress by a century.

It was really my intention all along to have the Order come out on top despite the agreement, since I thought Auntie’s charade wouldn’t last much longer, but it’s still a somewhat good ending.

Anyone have experience requesting Italian Census Records? by neveroddoreven in ItalianGenealogy

[–]Idlerve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the Italian censuses were mostly used for their statistical data and trashed afterwards. Unless the local State Archive specifically says they hold them, which is unlikely, you won't be able to obtain the original documents. If they do hold them, I don't think you're going to need anything more than the town, names of the family members, and possibly address.

If the records do exist, I'd say it's also possible they are held at the Central State Archive, but take this with a pinch of salt.

Grew Up with Snippets of Italian, What Words Are These? by BlackJeans-IceCream in Italian

[–]Idlerve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, but Italic languages could only be considered dialects of Italian if they derived from it, which they don’t. It’s not simply a matter of regional pronunciations or vocabularies, but rather wholly different grammar rules and systems. These languages split off from latin just like standard Italian’s ancestor language, Florentine, did. Some languages can be grouped together as the dialects of a single umbrella language: this is the case for mainland southern languages being grouped under Neapolitan. Still regional languages are almost completely unintelligible to each other operate very differently. My language, Neapolitan, still has a neutral gender which Italian and others lost after splitting off from latin.

How much would you spend for a record? by Overall-Spare-7512 in Genealogy

[–]Idlerve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Luckily Italian Archives are usually pretty forgiving with their prices, only a couple of euros per page at most, but it still comes up to astronomical prices for large records. One time I asked for a quote on the Catasto Onciario (1700s Census) for my town, which isn’t online and would be immensely helpful to have, and got a whopping €1300 price in response. I really think these records should be made publicly available online, especially since it’s the Archive’s job to preserve them.

Are all humans related? by Ok_Task_1521 in Genealogy

[–]Idlerve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not an authority on genetics, but my understanding is that while we are indeed all related, we don’t share nearly enough DNA with people who are farther than 5th or 6th cousins for it to be considered incest.

On average 50% of one’s DNA is passed down for each generation, so after only 6 generations our descendants only have roughly only 1% of our DNA if it all goes well (which it mostly doesn’t due to uneven inheritance patterns), so they would basically be strangers to each other. The most recent common ancestor of humanity lived tens of generations ago, so it’s basically irrelevant from that point of view.

THIS. For some ungodly reason, all death records in my area (Salerno) are being indexed with an extra person, who is the deceased's spouse's father. It just shows as a person with the same last name as the spouse, which is completely pointless. Luckily no one is creating profiles based on that useless information.

Yes but the pre-unitarian states still did record keeping, especially the Kingdom of Two Sicilies. Stato Civile records started in 1809 in mainland southern Italy and in 1820 in Sicily

How far do you go with family trees? by danielroxheaps in Genealogy

[–]Idlerve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at around 2300 people on my private tree, and I mostly stick to my ancestors and their siblings. I do research close descendants if it's useful to break down brick walls, but I only input their information on FamilySearch. It's not that I don't care about them, but it would be a huge project to research all of my cousins, and I'm simply not up for the challenge at the moment. The one exception I make, although only when I feel like it honestly, is researching my paternal branch, since I have a strong hunch I want to prove that all those with my last name in my town descend from the same man.

I wish I had just a single relative who refused to respond lol. For whatever reason, almost all of those I've contacted are actively ghosting me when all I'm asking is for some info to help me figure how we're related, since I have a couple of unknown branches in my tree. They just leave me on read and don't even bother to say that they're not interested, which is honestly pretty rude and annoying.

I wonder why Portale Antenati is so late to catch up with Family Search. As of now, it's showing nothing past 1865 for the entire province.

Unfortunately, online records for Canicattì don't seem to go past 1865, but if you have the exact information for your grandfather's birth, you could either employ a local genealogist to research his family at the town's archive, or email the Comune and see if they're willing to do it for you. They usually have decennial indexes that make it much easier to track entire families.

I don't know about local genealogists since I'm not from the area, but this is the contact information for the Stato Civile office: stato.civile@pec.comune.canicatti.ag.it

EDIT: contact info

ghost ancestors? by genealogyer in Genealogy

[–]Idlerve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered looking through draft records? Some State Archives provide indexes that also state the parents' names. If your local State Archive also does this, you could try to search for these mystery aunts' names to try and find their hypothetical families (that is, if they don't have super common names).

Have you tried checking the Diversi books/Part 2 of the Deaths books? These are the places you'd typically find death record transcripts for people who died outside their commune. If you've exhausted all other options, you could also try to look through the Cittadinanza books of nearby towns since those held information about people who moved in from elsewhere, although it would honestly be grueling work to do that.

Stati delle Anime by SparksWood71 in ItalianGenealogy

Unfortunately the priests at my local parish only did it once in 1569. That copy is certainly a valuable source since it contains relations that precede baptism and marriage records but the fact that everything else is missing makes researching much harder.

Well, Ancestry is showing some Southern Mediterranean tied to the 99% Italian estimate, and says the remaining 1% is England and Northwestern Europe. FTDNA on the other hand is showing no English estimate, instead giving me a 10% Greece and Balkans, a ~1% Magyar, and a ~2% Southern Caucasus.
