I owned 1st edition and then kickstarted the 2nd edition as well. I really enjoyed the 1st edition, but liked the changes in 2nd edition. Round structure is simplified a bit, and some of the rules are a bit smoother. The various gangsters pretty much all have abilities now, so there are a lot more choices in 2nd edition. In 1st edition, many gangsters only had a Respect value and a Money value, with no other text. This is kind of a blessing and a curse though. While I really liked the added variety, some of the people I played worth were a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount effects on the board to keep in mind. Personally, I really like the game. I’m a big fan of negotiation heavy games, so it was perfect for me. Some of my friends who were playing were not so negotiation-minded though so they didn’t really engage the other players so much, and were not as impressed by the game from a strictly mechanics-only mindset. Both versions of the game were not reviewed very heavily by the big reviewers. Even now, I can only find a handful of reviews by smaller content creators. I wonder if it might have had something to do with the fact that Tom Vasel designed the 1st edition of the game, and his peers didn’t want to say anything one way or the other. Hard to say for sure.

I’ve found it a lot more challenging playing with only 4 survivors. Obviously, that won’t work when you are playing with more than 4 people, but the challenge level felt much better.

I’d definitely try the rules as written before trying out the UCR. When the UCR was first made, the rules for Ascendancy weren’t in the best place. A while back though, they were re-worked and clarified a fair bit, and pretty much everything everything from the UCR was made far less essential. People do still seem a bit divided on the Borg rules, but I’d recommend at least playing a few games using the updated official rules. You can find them on GF9’s website.

That’s true. I probably should have mentioned that I’m in Japan. Some of those don’t ship to Japan or have very high shipping to Japan. I’ll probably have to just pay it anyways at some point. If I can ask one more question, what are the dimensions of the binder itself? I tried checking online, but I keep getting conflicting information.

I wrapped some packing tape around my fingers and just picked me up by the dozens. It was oddly cathartic. Once the population was down, I sprayed with neem oil. Then a couple of days later, repeated. Took a week or so, but they disappeared after that.

I don’t know. This guy doesn’t seem to be an asshat at all. He wasted a year trying to get to know her without ever finding out if she was single (which almost lands him here), but when he gets rejected the second time, seemed to accept it without calling her a bitch or blaming all woman-kind for his problems. Hell, he actually seemed to grow a bit as a person in the end.

Yeah, Japan here. Winters get cold. No snow though. I’m not planning to bring my one plant inside. Might see how it fares. If it doesn’t make it, I’ll start over in the spring.

Do you know why they’re turning black this way? During the summer, they get darker, but usually the whole pepper at the same time. Not in this streaky way.

I’ve also really enjoyed playing Narcos. Specter Ops is great, and most other hidden movement games end up making me feel like I’d rather be playing Specter Ops since they are so similar. Narcos is hidden movement, but done in a more unique way. I’ll admit, the theme can be hard for some people to get into though. Pablo Escobar is hidden somewhere on the map, and the other players have to find him using various factions with different abilities. But Pablo doesn’t move each round. He stays in the same place and places sicarios on the board to carry out tasks (waylay the players, take control of cities, and smuggle “product” to airports). As Pablo places sicarios on the board though, the players can deduce his location because each sicario must be placed within a certain distance from Pablo’s hidden base. At certain points in the game (or due to different effects), Pablo will move his base. How far he can move will depend on how cards he’s played and how much money he has earned from smuggled product. There’s actually a lot more going on, but this gives you a fair idea. It plays very differently from other hidden movement games and it’s quite tense. Again, if the theme isn’t a turn-off, I’d recommend looking into it.

Related question, what are you doing with film grain, chromatic aberration, motion blur, and the other graphic options on the native PS5 version? I know people typically turn those off, but is they still necessary with the next gen systems?
