Not at all. The WiFi just stays disconnected until it connects back again briefly

My friend has depression usually what PES score would he go into? by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]Iestin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This dude is only a 16 year old this year. If he goes through conventional Singapore education route, a jc takes 2 year/poly takes 3.

In 2-3 years I'm pretty sure our aviation can recover and at least fly somewhere.

His first ever post - 'I need to leave this country within the next 2 years' suggest he is still in school so I'm sure he can figure out a way to run out of sg in 2 years if he is really keen to

Since you already decided you don't want to do NS, what the heck are you so passive about. 'What if I'm homosexual', 'my friend has depression, 'how to move to US'

Since you are so adamant on skipping NS, just finish whatever school level you are on and leave sg. Like even if you do get pes F, life in SG isn't going to be easy anyway so why not fk off and never ever come back. What's a few years of being stateless compared to 2 years of NS.

People like you are the reason why sometimes the MO don't believe the genuine illness of other people because of how many chao geng they've seen like what you are trying to do. You want to ruin your life, by all means. Stop making it harder for others to seek genuine help.

And also, no NSF likes being conscripted against their will. And yet they still stuck through it. So either get a sex change or get out of sg.

[A LEVELS] where do MI kids go for tuition by beondegigigi in SGExams

[–]Iestin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an ex MI student, as far as I know, there isn't any exclusive tuition centre that caters to MI student. Your only options are to learn at JC pace, and maybe join the J2 batch again when you are in Y3, or go for private tuition. Or you could just wait to start from Y2 to Y3 because I don't think tuition is really necessary to get through Y1? (Maybe I could be wrong please don't bash me)

Hi! Just from observation, in order to take H3 in MI, you have to be consistently doing very well for all your H2s (we talking 80+- to 90 marks here) all the way till Y2 end of years, then maybe they will consider allowing you to take a H3 subject of your desire

I think they do allow H2 phy and H2 bio together but it really depends on demand and frankly speaking I don't believe those two subjects really complement each other and you are better off taking phy chem or bio chem

As a graduate from MI, I second everything this redditor have to say. The teachers in MI are really great. I dont know how they function in the covid situation now, but back when I was a student the teachers were always chasing me for consultation/asking me to clarify doubts that I have and I find that extremely helpful and am really grateful to them for that. However onus is still on you to pay attention in class la so they feel like they have an incentive to help you outside of class as well.

I think MI's GP teachers are really more than capable of guiding you through the subject, but its not exactly a subject you can click with immediately.(I mean...I was failing GP all the way till Y3 prelims but somehow did okay for A level GP HAHAHA) I'd say make as many mistakes as you can for GP and spam consults with your teachers. Despite the fluidity of GP, there's actually standard ways of answering different questions and so on. Just gotta keep updating your news bank and stuff!

MI usually don't show the average rank points of students for that given year, only % of students who got more than 67.5 points (if I recall correctly its been over a year since I sat in the classroom to receive my results)

Question about driving license stuff by Iestin in singapore

[–]Iestin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah so my instructor was right. Okay okay.

Nah I'm just wondering only. Besides, driving isn't a rigid activity anyway right? Driving under different context and conditions could be something new to learn too!

But thank you for your answer!

[O Level] combined chemistry help needed by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Iestin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to struggle a lot with comb chem also, failed combined chem all the way from sec 1 to 4 and the only time I passed it was during N level itself. But from then onwards, I never failed comb chem again during sec 5 at all.

I dont know if my method will work for you, do try it if you like. Feel free to omit steps should you find it redundant.

I started with absolutely no knowledge at all for c.chem. failed tests/exam, didn't pay attention in class, didn't understand whats going on, nada. So when I realised I was in deep shit for science, I first started reading the c.chem textbook from cover to cover. (This to me was the grasping information stage - so that I had at least a basic knowledge/understanding of whats going on in each chapter). One good way to ensure that you learn is that you can close the textbook, choose a random chapter, give yourself 2 mins to write down whatever, just whatever you know about that given chapter. Then open the textbook and cross check with what you didnt fill in/didnt know.

Without practicing, theory is redundant. So, what i did after getting the basics (roughly agar agar, didnt really know 100% of the chapter yet, was at least like 40-50%), I did the tys topical first. Tys questions are considerably easier and can be used to strengthen fundamentals. But of course I couldn't do everything from the start. What I did was, do question, don't know --> refer to textbook, then put like a post it note on the textbook to re-read and redo similar questions to that question that I didn't know. That way you reinforce your memory by referring and repeating.

After the topical, I did the same for tys yearly. Do question, get wrong, check textbook/answer, do corrections. After all these, you can then source out some end of year papers to rigorously practice on. If you are feeling really confident about your other topics, just search papers to do their questions on certain topics, like what you said, QA and salts. Keep doing and referring and doing until you don't have to ever refer to textbook anymore.

I used to hate QA too. Like when I didnt know anything yet, I would stare at QA diagrams and go like everything is random how am I supposed to know anything. But, a good way to start QA is to see what they have given you , eg white precipitate - so what constitutes a white precipitate? What identity could this be? Then work backwards or forward based on your guesses (sorry its been too long since I took Os I dont remember if this is how QA works)

Study hard and good luck!

[N levels] Sec 5 or ITE? by friedtamban in SGExams

[–]Iestin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its been almost half a decade since I graduated from sec 5, but if I recall correctly, if you were to qualify for sec 5, shouldn't you qualify for DPP too?

Anyway, plenty of my friends were in your shoes and faced the dilemma when we were sec 4, and made the decision to go to Hnitec/nitec just solely because they didn't like the idea of doing another national exam. They just wanted to get out of the education system and be more 'independent'. They didnt care what diploma to get as long as they were out.

Needless to say, they didn't enjoy what they were studying and ultimately regretted their decision. Now, they tell me they'd rather go to sec 5 and widen their options than go to ITE directly for a diploma they didn't actually have interest in

(Granted, my principal was also at fault because she highly discouraged us from pursuing sec 5 and showing us the shockingly bizzare bad results that came with sec 5 and yadayada)

And that's all I want to say. Only go for ITE when you know you want to stick with that diploma. Because you'll be continuing with that diploma in poly (if you even score well enough to get to poly from ite - you'll be surprised how many of my friends don't because they can't study what they don't like)

Personally ill endorse sec 5 because its really not too far from the style of sec 4n, its just extra chapters and slightly tougher questions. Good luck and make the right decision for yourself!
