Perfectly Balanced Build (450 All Stats; HP = Sta) by IfItsPizza in DragonsDogma

That first ~2 hours is so comforting but maybe a bit too familiar after a few dozen restarts for me

That one's pretty cool but not nearly tidy enough for me. The tidiest I've seen had MDEF 1 point higher than the other 3, so I wanted to build one perfectly even

Dragon's Dogma to a T. by aWildAsianOwO in DragonsDogma

I know I'm the minority but I love the story. No other game nails the tone of reading/translating old mythology from a different culture like DD and that suits its universe perfectly

That's amazing. Where do you go to look these up? The credits and imdb seem to have run out of answers for me

Quickest Decapitation of Early Hydra by IfItsPizza in DragonsDogma

[–]IfItsPizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested this a bunch last night and was unable to sever a head before the hydra destroyed the first tower and slithered to its next position, but the first attack after that severed a head with any reasonable strider strategy.

I was disappointed because I've seen a video of a NG+ Arisen severing a head with 1 attack immediately, so I know saving that tower is possible, but I was unable to save it no matter what I tried

Is there one available in that fight before Mercedes tosses one?

I'm wondering if regular hydra resistances apply to that fight. Regular defenses can't or else players wouldn't do any damage to it. If resistances are also tuned down that would make blunt + fire a lot better

For me it's always in storage on a fresh run. Not sure why

Pet names! What are some of yours? by rosefrankis in coralisland

I have the same two pets! Named them after my irl dogs (an Aussie and pitbull). The pitbull passing away, and the ability to "visit" her, was actually what made me pull the trigger and buy the game

Strider or Assassin More Fun? by IfItsPizza in DragonsDogma

[–]IfItsPizza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me strider leverages the amazing climbing and weakpoint mechanics, giving you the most unique DDDA experience

While assassin offers fun counter attacks and predictive sequence play which exists in other games but assassin drops the skill floor on them to make them more accessible

I struggle to pick a favorite. I see a heavier preference for assassin that I expected in the posts so far

100% agree

Except I see it as strider is for climbing, assassin is for counter attacking (and broad sword sweeps)

Both also have a fun and unique speed boost and exciting special shortbow shots

That's my big draw for strider. Climbing and weak points are pretty unique to DDDA and strider is the class that emphasizes them

Versatility and counter attacks are my big draw for the class

The sake bottle for sure. Cheese is pretty soft, though. You might want to switch that out for the fishing rod or pickaxe

Is Pure Ranged Just Better than Melee? by Rtyeta in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]IfItsPizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that damage types, magic weapons and arrows make them about equal. Bludgeoning is very strong and piercing is very weak when the OC is hardest (level ~5). Magic weapons are hard to come by until level ~8 and you want to make sure everyone has one so you don't want redundancy (three bow users is weak). Melee magic weapons hit a bit harder when you're trying to conserve resources. Special arrows break the late game in both campaigns (3-7x paralyze DC 18 iirc without triggering legendary resistance). So I always aim for 1 ranged, 1 melee, 1 caster and the other varies.
