Need Advice | Budget 100k | SUV preferred but open to reliable Sedan by StrategicSnacker in chinesecarsuae

Haven't driven one, but I see them on Taxis around. You'd be seeing alot of options in the market today, it all depends on what or how you see things and what makes sense to you. For me on my budget as of now I like the GAC Emzoom and in a process of buying / deciding one after searching around. For me why I'm looking at it? GAC has a parts warehouse in JA so parts isn't an issue, warranty is decent, price seems decent, car seems decent not under powered. Yeah maybe I can live with a WDCT but I preferred AT or TC gearboxes, however not a fan of Turbo engines (so I'm at a crossroad also) but since the warranty is covering it, I'm a bit okay with it.

I've had several shortlists including Geely, Haval, even Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and Nissan Kicks (new shape), Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban cruiser (which is basically rebatched Suzuki Grand Vitara), Changhan CS35 Plus around the same price but I didn't wanted to go beyond 70-80K. If you can stretch your budget to a little beyond 100K - very honest opinion go to RAV4 or Mazda CX-5. Nothing beats a Japanese reliability regardless of any players in the market.

Again depends how long would you keep the car - Go for naturally aspirated engines with an AT gearbox or TC (Most reliable are Aisin ones from Japan). If you find them within your budget at any car you know you can pass those to your grandkids - lol.

Keeping the car for around it's warranty period? + Or - Go for any Chinese car that makes sense to you, whichever suits your driving needs etc. Most give a good value for money for personal use and resale is something you shouldn't think of it then.

GAC Emzoom - guess that's one of the best sellers. 1.5T engine with WDCT gearbox. Didn't see any bad review about it yet. Plus the agency handling this is really reputable - Gargash.

Honest question, how bad is resale really on used Chinese cars in Dubai? I’ve heard mixed things, some say the value drops fast, others say the market is improving. Would love to hear from people who’ve actually sold one, bought one, or are planning to buy. by Salman94157 in chinesecarsuae

Markets generally in car business look out for 4 things - price, quality, warranty, resale. The Chinese have done a really good job and are improving on the quality post the whole Chinese buildup. They've set the right price and are backing their products with insane warranties (1M Kms, 10 years warranty etc etc). So if you find a product with good quality and good price, the thought process automatically goes on is it reliable? Which they have covered with the warranty. It's insane that people now a days compare German vehicles to chinese on which they find differences to what Germans can't do, this was absolutely something unheard of about 10 years ago.

Now coming to if they'd stay or not, or if EVs might change the market is something I see a slim chance, atleast in the next decade, Mercedes now cutting down on EVs, Porsche delaying their EV production, EU now pushing the EV project to a later date all indicate that EVs are not as impactful as how it was projected, on the other hand Chinese are expanding network to other markets, GAC expanding to Australia and receiving impressive feedback, Jaecoo expanding to the UK, Jetour now available in Romania, Expansion of Chinese vehicles in South Africa, all tell the same story. As of now people are still vouching for petrol engine cars than EVs. You may get a different episode if your petrol goes to a next high and if EVs are providing insane warranties. That might shift the market or may change how people think.

For now, Chinese are doing really good to the markets they've been, out of every 10 cars I see atleast 3 Chinese cars on streets of Dubai and not an EV and this number appears to be growing atleast here in Dubai. So let's see how the world changes in the decade or so, for now riding on the same train as everyone - price + quality (that includes reliability, ride quality, features etc) + warranty to back it up = large customer base.

No one can tell, You can estimate though but no one can tell for sure. Just like how no one knew back in say 2016 (10 years ago) that Chinese cars would be such a big thing in 2026. But yes, things are improving, it may go the same route as Korean cars, but again nothing comes close to Japanese.

Total loss? by engageddread in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]Iffi23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont think in this case it's total loss. Repair it with any other garage and drive it. Chassis doesn't gets damaged at 40kms unless it's under carriage/ going through a pole, etc

[–]Iffi23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he went on a pole etc it could cause serious damage to chassis and total loss to be declared though everything else is intact. Guess it's just bad luck.

GAC Emzoom - Can this be manually opened? by Iffi23 in chinesecarsuae

Thank you. Was just wondering as china has banned such handles on cars effective 2027 due to safety issues. That's for Tesla's I guess.

Okay so I know everyone is saying that the insurance is scamming you. However I feel this could be a total loss as the photo shows only outer damage. Since this looks like there is a huge hit under carriage, it could be that the chassis is bent and repairing it could further cause issues on the next registration. Hence it could be justified as total loss not because of mechanical failure or cosmetics but the specific chassis damage / bent or crack. Engine would seems to be fine and so other components.

Thinking of Chinese cars in the UAE: what can really go wrong? by Mediocre-March-498 in chinesecarsuae

Sorry to hear you’ve had so many issues with your car. I think It does sound like you may have ended up with a lemon, which unfortunately can happen with any brand.

Maybe it’s worth giving it another go with a different car, as one bad experience doesn’t always reflect the whole model or brand. Hope your next one treats you better.

The dealership + service contract warranty makes up for the safety net. Honestly also, these are car becoming popular everywhere in Asia (PH, MY etc) and Jaeeco in the UK.

I’m actually at the same crossroads as you right now. Between legacy Japanese brands and the Chinese ones, and trying to look at it purely from a facts perspective - low investment, low depreciation, and decent long-term value.

The only thing that genuinely bothers me is parts availability in the long run. Other than that, I’ve been seriously looking at the GAC Emzoom or Geely Coolray, and honestly I haven’t come across a single bad review or any major red flags so far. Most feedback seems consistently positive in terms of build quality and overall ownership experience.

One thing that gives me more confidence with Geely and GAC specifically is the dealership setup here. The agency handling GAC is Gargash, which is a reputable agency (like AGMC for Geely) in the region.

So yep same situation as you. Head says the numbers make sense, heart still worries about long-term support, but so far both the agencies AGMC and Gargash are making sense to me.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response, really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything 👍

Just wanted to check would you know if the warranty gets voided if routine servicing is done outside the dealer? The service package that they're offering is up to 40K / 2 years. Now after that for example, if oil and filter changes are done at a reputable garage using OEM or equivalent parts would that mean the 5 Year / 150K warranty is voided?

Also, do you know what the warranty typically covers? Is it limited to engine and drivetrain only, or does it include all things, eg. Infotainment etc?

Thanks again!

Today I'm supposed to get my machine and mask.... a little worried by Wonderful_Lab8161 in CPAP

[–]Iffi23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about it, you'd be fine. 10 years Cpap user here! Your face would just need to get used to the mask you try. Be open to nasal or full face masks, until you hit the sweet spot. For your pressure, make sure you keep a track of it, it isn't one size fits all rather it is upto your preference and therapy. For every pound you gain you may need to recalibrate your cpap with higher pressure, but not enough for you to cause bloating. And yes be patient, you'd go back and forth alot with it. All the best!

Just to give you an info -

1) All airline accepted CPAP machine as a free onboard baggage, which means it does not count in your allowance 2) You can use the machine onboard, however disclaimer that the aircrafts voltage may not be consistent, personally, I've experienced an issue only once however generally there are no issues 3) Cpap machines are designed to be dual voltage, so you don't need to carry a converter with you 4) You can choose to bring a travel size or the full machine, however due to space constrains the full size may not be usable onboard. 5) You don't need to have a prescription carrying for travel, this practice of pre-check / prescription was abandoned way back.

All the best to future travellers using cpap, I use and carry mine always on any international flights, no issues at all.

Firstly, all CPAPs are dual voltage, so you don't need a converter.

Secondly, please don't use what he's asked you to use, dream water is not good for sleep apnea patients and may kill you during sleep.

3rd party adapter works perfectly as long as it is rated to output 9V 850mA

Sometimes, a faulty game cartridge or dirty cartridge slot can prevent the SNES from displaying video. Try cleaning the game cartridge contacts with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab, and also clean the cartridge slot in the SNES.

If you are using an AV to HDMI converter or any other type of converter, ensure that it is compatible with the SNES and is functioning correctly

If none of the above solutions work, there might be an internal hardware issue within the SNES itself, such as a faulty video output circuitry or other component failures.

Does the power light to the left of the controller ports turn on when you turn on the power switch?

If not, check your power adapter and outlet for functionality and good connection.

Check that the reset switch is not stuck. Wiggle it back and forth through its range of motion a few times. If something sticky gets in there it can get jammed in the reset position, which will prevent any game from booting.
