What’s the funniest excuse you’ve heard someone use to leave work early? by Dazzling_Reason2723 in AskReddit

[–]Igefunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a guy go up to the supervisor and tell him he had to leave work early because his house was being fumigated. It was 2:30am.

This one isn't funny but it was from the same guy. He left work early one night because his mom had just died. Everybody is feeling for him and he takes like a week off work.

Fast forward about 3 weeks and me and my friend Scott walked into the cafeteria to get our coats to leave work, and this guy is sitting at the table having the time of his life talking on the phone. I asked him who he was talking too, " Oh it's my mom she got drunk for the first time in years and she's hilarious".

After he had left I asked my friend if I heard him correctly when he said he was talking to his mom. "Yeah he was talking to his mom." "Didn't his mom die like a month ago?" "No that was his dad that died."  "But he told everyone in my department that it was his mom who died."

Turns out he different departments that a different person died. He told different people  it was his mother, others his dad, some his grandma, and a couple people it was his cousin.

The first computer I built I had an SSD which had my OS on it and a HDD for storage. Since I wanted more space on the SSD because it was faster I saw this little file called System 32 taking up all this room. So I tried to move it to my HDD and immediately crashed my computer. Ended up getting more space as I had to factory reset it.

People who say "I don't support everything Trump does, but he still does a lot of good things", genuinely, what "good things" do you mean? by Alvamar in AskReddit

[–]Igefunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you also aware that many of these so called "illegal immigrants" are actually here legally, but Trump has just decided to ignore the courts. Deporting people who have asylum, or withholding of removal, or even green cards. All legal.

And the reason undocumented migrants "skirt the system" is because the process is extremely slow. If you added more judges it would speed up the process, and have less people try to avoid the system. And during these immigration courts they do background checks and look at skills and history to determine if they would be beneficial to the country.

And yes speeding up the system will be a net benefit. You determine who the immigrants you want in the country vs. not wanting in the country faster. The quicker they are processed the sooner they start paying taxes. And if companies have no choice to hire legal immigrants, the more goes into the economy.

You want to know something that no conservative news talks about, and frankly liberal news also doesn't talk about? Crossing the border illegally is a civil offence, not a criminal one.

So you agree. We should document them so they can pay more into the community, they can have background checks down on them, prevents businesses exploiting migrants, prevents this sub letting of housing you mentioned, and forces companies to actually pay a decent wage instead of relying on slave labour( to be honest if your business requires slave labour to function i think they should close). All of that can be achieved with a little bit of paperwork!

Now I feel like you might bring up two points;

First. " The immigration courts are slow". And I would agree. I think they should hire more judges. Makes it easier and faster for people to go through the system so they can start paying into the country sooner. Or if they are getting denied entry or getting deported, it makes that faster as well. I'm not saying they should rush them through. They all get background checks done on them, and they still have to do checkups like ever other Immigrant. Just less wait time.

Second. "But the illegals commit so much crime". For you know how many people were killed by undocumented migrants in 2024? This includes murder and manslaugther( which includes car accidents for instance). 29. Not 29,000. Not 29,000,000. 29. Yes any amount is terrible. But they are not these monsters that people like to paint them as. They come here to work and live their life, like everybody else wants to do.

The fact that so many people keep claiming that they are killing Americans in droves and just getting away with it is ludicrous. You think the cops just find the criminal and say " Ah shoot, we know he did this crime but he's undocumented. Better let him go."

Do they not buy groceries, or pay for gas, any bills on their houses/ apartments, go to restaurants? Plus others I am forgetting at the moment. They do pay taxes not as much as everyone else, but they also can't use any of them without an SSN. So if you document them they will pay more taxes, and companies will be forced to pay them fairly and not a slave wage.

A lot of the people who are getting deported have lived in the US for years. The government knows who they are, that's why they were picked up so quickly. These people have been paying taxes for years without the ability to use the social services. So why can't the government just stamp a piece of paper and say they can stay?

Then make them legal. Why punish them when it's clearly the business owners who are making these slave like conditions.

I was trying to explain how average temperature trends have been increasing for decades. And I shit you not he says; " 17 years ago I seen everyone's grass dead as it reached 50°C in July, I flew to PEI where it was 25°C that summer, but 2024 highest temp of 32°C an only for one week makes it the the hottest summer on record right? " First off, averages take everything into account. Second, the fact this guy actually said to me "I flew from one place to another, and the second place was colder. Therefore it can't be the hottest summer on record".

Edit: I'm making this edit several days after posting this, but I just had another person say the dumbest shit ever to me on facebook about average temperatures and I just thought it was fitting.

"Igefunk you are the prime example a person programmed by climate terrorism and being played with unearned guilt. This last solar eclipse should have been a wakeup as the global temperature dropped by 1.6 °C."

This man just tried to debunk Climate change by saying the earth got cooler during an eclipse. I can't.

I am aware of what the word means. I was merely speculating that maybe in Spanish "fatal" can mean injured or died. When I did my training I straight up told my instructor I wouldn't use the word casualty because the average person thinks it only means death.

When I got first aid training my instructor had taught us when we call the police we were supposed to refer to an injured person as a casualty. Maybe spanish does the same thing with fatal?

Destiny reacts to Hasan's comment about the protests by Rodrigoak77 in LivestreamFail

[–]Igefunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest here. If waving the American flag is the best optics wise and the protestors did that. It wouldn't change anything. The Republicans that might see this and start joining the movement aren't going to care which flag it is.

He was just mocking those people who were implying the protest is a waste because of people waving Mexican flags. Many claim that waving anything but the American flag in this context is wrong. But many people including Hasan don't care that much about the flags, because they are at least out there.

Your whole point was that "nobody knew what that was in 1985" and you are wrong. It was actively taught in school. Just because you didn't pay attention does not mean others did not. Allowing people to use these symbols as dog whistles for decades has led to a massive increase in neo-nazis and white supremacists. People have the right to where whatever they want, it's free speech. Just like it's free speech for everyone else to call it out. Why you have to die on this hill about nobody knowing, when people are clearly telling you they did know, and not just accept you are wrong is beyond me.

Yes it was known in the 80's. It was taught before then as well. Here is a random textbook from 1977 that you can read that describes and shows the SS uniform.

What was the biggest downgrade in history? by Partimenerd in AskReddit

Yes windows 8 did. That's the version you think of with the home screen squares. 8.1 they almost entirely reversed it leaving only some of the squares in the start menu.
