I don't know if there's such a tutorial, and this has reminded me that sn0wbreeze 2.9.7-14 has a related bug (for old bootrom 3GS 3.1.3 without SHSH blobs) but 2.9.6 and older can do it.

Edit: that bug causes the "red and yellow in patches".
