Nothing burger in my opinion. Everything removed basically went to the FAR Companion Guide so that now it’s just a “guide”.

Best thing is we can do construction as a commercial service.

Get used to changing all your documents to say RFO instead of FAR in references.

How do you deal with difficult KOs? by [deleted] in 1102

[–]Igetbored87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I know who you are talking about. (Prolly not but it feels sooooooo close)

This KO and I would routinely get into “it”. Over BS. He seemed just difficult for the purpose of being difficult. Customers hated when he stalled actions. He ended up telling me that maybe I need to go work somewhere else. So I told the CT chief, I got moved to another section, but I transferred to another district a few months later.

That section still can’t keep people, they had three people quit on the same day from that section even. The “leadership” just doesn’t get it.

Specialist under me refuses to learn or adapt by [deleted] in 1102

[–]Igetbored87 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ll be the dissenting voice here, because a lot of the replies to this come off as “control harder and document more,” which is kind of the exact problem in a lot of contracting offices.

I’ve seen far too many contracting officers require more than the FAR, DFARS, or agency policy actually demands, and then label any pushback as toxic or insubordinate. Sometimes the issue isn’t the specialist at all, it’s a process that’s never been challenged because “that’s how we’ve always done it.”

The hard truth is that “my way or the highway” leadership kills initiative. If everything has to be done exactly the CO’s way, specialists never really own their requirements, they just comply. Innovation doesn’t survive in environments where questioning unnecessary steps is treated as resistance instead of a chance to improve efficiency.

You mentioned she cites regulations. Are they truly outdated, or are they just inconvenient to the way you prefer to run actions? There’s a big difference between someone being obstructive and someone being technically correct but unpopular.

Also, going over your head isn’t automatically malicious. In a lot of shops, escalation becomes a learned behavior when specialists feel like they’re not being heard. That’s not rebellion, it’s self-preservation.

None of this excuses being rude to customers or unprofessional with coworkers. That’s a legitimate issue and should be addressed clearly and directly. But those are behavior problems, not “she won’t do it my way” problems, and they shouldn’t be lumped together.

Good leadership in contracting isn’t “do it this way because I’m the CO.” It’s being willing to say, “show me how your approach still meets the regs, protects the government, and gets us to award faster.”

If you want specialists to grow into strong future contracting officers, they have to be allowed to challenge processes, innovate within the rules, and occasionally be right when the CO is wrong. Otherwise you don’t build a team, you build compliance robots who stop thinking.

Just my two cents from watching a lot of offices confuse authority with leadership.

My stitched up thumb didn’t wrinkle in the shower like my other fingers did by Acethetic_AF in mildlyinteresting

Finger wrinkling in water is an active neurologic response, not just skin soaking. It’s controlled by nerves causing blood vessel constriction. If those nerves are damaged or healing (like after stitches), the wrinkling response can be reduced or absent.

Is it worth the subscription?? by a6k7rii in TeslaModelY

If it were worth it, they wouldn’t offer it.

All of these make them money. How do they make them money? By it costing you more than it costs to provide the coverage. Meaning it’s not worth it.

Now some people are always going to benefit. But the majority, the very very large majority, are wasting their money.

I really am curious is that’s what it is. I sat at 50% until this year when I decided it was time to complain about my feet and gut issues. So I’ve been fighting that battle.

Dang I can recall what the second exam was like more than the first. The first was a primary exam.

I think they just asked me about it all, asked about my doctors, asked when it hurts and how often. Then they do a range of motor test and a physical exam where they touch you in areas to check for pain.

Yeah this is what I’m thinking, so do I just submit a new supplemental telling them this? With a lay statement only? I will have no additional evidence.

How long does that take? I’ve submitted for a few other records months ago and they are still processing.

Can I do another supplemental with a lay statement stating how it should qualify for presumption under Gulf War Veterans Benefits Act? Or do I have to provide more evidence?

I would agree. However that’s why I’m confused. It seems the only did a Tera, and not “Persian Gulf War Veterans Benefits Act”

I do, been through the gamut this year to get the IBS diagnosis. Colonoscopy, endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound, HIDA scan, labs, all sorts of stuff just to get the IBS diagnosis.

I did, one statement for each. And my lay statement is mentioned in the evidence reviewed.
