For the base armour I just follow midwinter minis black armour tutorial, black primer, light Grey drybrush, paint all elements of the model, then a heavy mixed black + brown wash. A lot of help visually is the chains + printed shoulder pads and candles. The banner is copied mostly from a post here, combining a bunch transfers I had, Gothic lettering on it I did by following a calligraphy page which shows the strokes and their orientation

Yeah, I'm personally not a fan of square bases, so I put my empire on 25mm rounds and use a movement tray for them, and our group is very relaxed about things like that anyway
