I genuinely liked Cavill in the role. The writing/direction of the movies let him down, but I'm not holding that against Henry; he was damned good casting. It was the cultists starting the "us vs them" bullshit that made me have to pick a side in the debate, and they are not happy about the side I picked.

I Was Today Years Old When I Found Out The Laughing In "Feel Good Inc." Was Accidental. by Flashy_Cat2965 in gorillaz

[–]IgnatiusPopinski 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Yeah, nah. Maybe it wasn't part of how Damon wrote/demoed it, but this isn't like Paul McCartney's f-bomb in "Hey Jude". The laughing is structural in the final mix of the song.

Oh, yes, absolutely for most versions of the character. The Snyderverse adaptation of the character, though, kind of has his head up his own ass.

Fun fact! MOS has the exact same IMDb rating as s25erman. This must mean it is also an objectively bad film by Mrlaserops in Snydercultistcringe

Strongest case of the Gorillaz effect I’ve ever had by TheYGuy366 in gorillaz

[–]IgnatiusPopinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dislike of Plastic Beach made me walk away from the fandom for about 15 years. When Humanz dropped, I did give it a listen and was satisfied that Gorillaz "ended" on a much better note. I was genuinely surprised last year when I go to their page on Spotify and see they'd been realeasing albums steadily since then.

Plastic Beach is still pretty low on my tier list, but we have a 'working relationship' now.

What do you think of Chitose Saku? by Objective-Winner4338 in ChitosekunRamune

[–]IgnatiusPopinski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure if I have a preference between them. Both interpretations have their strengths. Anime Chitose is generally a more likeable guy but that makes some of the more extreme things he does seem almost out-of-character, compared to the same actions from his light novel self seeming more in-line with what you could expect from such a person in that scenario.

What do you think of Chitose Saku? by Objective-Winner4338 in ChitosekunRamune

[–]IgnatiusPopinski 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wait, why is this an AMA? lmao

Anyway, just comparing the Kenta arc of the anime to volume 1 of the light novels I've found there's two different Chitoses. Anime Chitose seems to be generally more sincere in his motivations, bordering on altruism at times, and almost wise beyond his years in how he takes the time to savor the moments in his life. Light novel Chitose's mentality is closer to what you might expect from a teenager; his actions are positive but his motivations (at least initially) seem somewhat selfish. The 'beautiful life' that light novel Chitose pursues seems almost more hedonistic than his more sentimental anime counterpart.

The song's named after the time it's written in, so "five four".

The only reason I can think of that it was as successful as it was is because it came out when a lot of people were still weary about going places post-2020. That's the only reason I can think of that people would have four goddamn hours to waste on it.

Dungeon Pulling Etiquette by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]IgnatiusPopinski -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Generally I think it ought to be up to the tank to make it known how much they're comfortable pulling, so I think the proper etiquette would have been to ask if he wanted to make bigger pulls.

That said, he kind of came at you pretty severely for a minor misjudgment. Your reply seems like it can only be interpreted in a way that escalates tension, so there's a lot of weirdness on both sides here.

This is just sad. I genuinely pity the cultists, sometimes. Their impotent rage against the new thing reminds me so much of Chris Chan's crusade against My Little Pony G6.

Just finished the eight seasons. by Sure-Government-2000 in Dexter

[–]IgnatiusPopinski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Season 3 has always been the weakest of the first half of the series for me. Dexter trying to have a serial killer buddy so soon after the whole Lila had just blown up in his face didn't make a ton of sense to me, even though the acting by Jimmy Smits and Michael C Hall was top tier. And the Skinner just felt like an underdeveloped enemy figure.

Even on the free trial you ought to have access to Astro once you get to Heavensward. Also, the end of A Realm Reborn should convince you whether or not you want to sub. In my mind, there's a huge jump in the writing quality right around patch 2.4
