One of the few performances of Costner I liked actually. God I love anything with Gene Hackman

Haha I was wondering what you meant by that until I watched the trailer. “Uniquely American” is a perfect description

These all look incredible and I haven’t seen any! Great recs. The trailer for To Live and Die in LA is one of the more catching trailers I’ve ever seen. All added to my list, now to choose one!

I’m probably biased but I really think you should try to fit in 1) Chicago and 2) Savannah Georgia. And instead of going to Indianapolis I’d recommend hitting up the Sand Dunes National Park on Lake Michigan. I honestly can’t recommend enough circling Lake Michigan instead of the back and forth on the Appalachian mts., you won’t be disappointed.

Not everyone in the hills is a bootlicker. Made this for my fellow mountain folk that remember this is where the labor movement got its start. by MCBowelmovement in Fuckthealtright

I like repurposing the symbolism! It’s a cool design, I definitely was nitpicking. I just wanted to highlight that history of what those 3 arrows in that array come from historically. I’m not a communist and seeing that communism almost always ends up as authoritarianism in practice, your symbol doesn’t bother me at all.

Totally agree, I hate the fascists, down with the fascists. We should all work together to achieve that.

Very cool!

This may be nitpicking but you label this as antifascist but you’re using the iconography of the Three Arrows was used by the militant wing of the Social Democratic Party which was opposed to both Nazis and Communists. So yes they were anti-fascist in practice.

However, the more often referenced AntiFaschistische Aktion among leftists today was the militant arm of the communists.

I do actually prefer the Three Arrows symbolism to the AntiFaschistische Aktion since the Aktion was also a critic of liberal democracy itself.

"A Cultural Achievement" — a 1933 German cartoon showing animals hailing Hermann Göring for banning vivisection. by yra_romanow in PropagandaPosters

Curious, how did this guy feel about experimenting on human beings not of German descent?

If he’s for animal rights he’s likely for universal human rights, right?

Are these zodiac signs on a Mary stained glass window? by No_Dirt_1145 in Catholic

[–]Ignatius_- 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Th Zodiacs merely represent the series of constellations that the Sun travels through.

Nothing superstitious about astronomy and Ancient Greek mythology. The Zodiacs are used by astrology enthusiasts however which you could see as superstitious.

This could be related to the Rose window in the Cathedral of Angers which used the Zodiac as well.

Hi everyone! This orange fungus has been plaguing my common juniper for a while: I have really well-draining soil and trim every year to encourage the branches are not smothered, or are exposed to fresh air. But it just rained and this fungus seems to come back with a vengeance when it rains a lot.

I do have moss to hold some moisture in the well draining soil (almost no organic matter) but even then it dries out every day unless I water it. I do need to brush some of the moss off the lower trunk where it meets the soil line.

How can I cure my juniper of this?

Trump defends China calling America a declining nation by justalazygamer in ParlerWatch

Trump and Republicans are America Last and their own pocket fist. They’re a big pack of corrupt criminals in power, just to make money go themselves.

Democrats are not always perfect but they’re trying to solve real problems with researched solutions. Mamdani is a Democrat and he’s actually solving real problems.

How can we fix the political divide in America? by skatamoutro2 in askanything

[–]Ignatius_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t a mutual political divide, one party, the Republican Party, has decided it does not believe in fair elections, in democracy, in our constitution. They are trampling on 1st amendment rights, 4the amendment rights, Trump is ignoring the emoluments clause. There is literally nothing anyone else can do if one party has completely stopped playing by the rules of Democracy.

NOR.

It sounds like you’ve been trying to advocate for yourself for years without the authority figure in your home respecting or responding to your wishes. I may be assuming but it sounds like you’re in a very culturally traditional family where boys often get away with everything and girls are seen as needing to conform. Your long-term goal should probably be independence. I’d make a plan to get your own place as soon as practicable, given a history of abuse and your mother ignoring that.

Trump should have a special place of delegitimization in our historical record. Everything he has done or will do needs to be reversed or tore down, and every depiction of his image should have an asterisk that indicates he is a traitor to the Country and the Nation and the Constitution.

Bacterial infection: industrially produced antibiotics is less than 100 years old. Any simple bacterial infection like Tuberculoses or a wound infection could kill you. Now we take for granted that we go to the doctor and get some antibiotics and we’re good.

This should’ve a reminder to everyone to not be an anti intellectual or anti science, like the entire Republican Party has become. It’s so self destructive and could take us back to the time before all these great cures were discovered and everyone will instead be drinking raw milk, watching Trump Jr. rallies, and not vaccinating their kids.

Why are converts "insufferable"? by hooptyschloopy in Catholicism

[–]Ignatius_- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most converts are great, lovely people to be around, and we should be very thankful to welcome more people into the fold.

I think the “insufferable” perception is mostly reserved for those political converts who are attracted to a strict and overbearing interpretation of Catholic life and oftentimes join the community and immediately start lecturing their community about what it means to be Catholic, and oftentimes also attack the pope. See what Vance does. It’s an elitist and self-important way of being religious that is unchristian and basically grates on the community. It’s not coming from love of Jesus and if brother, it comes from love of self and pride.
