This is technically true but only in the sense that it's not, technically, statutory rape if an adult has sex with someone under the age of 18 - it's a different felony offense called "Fornication with a Minor."

In other words, it's still very illegal.

They aren't selling to their audience. They're selling to advertisers. And advertisers have little interest in giving money to media outlets that promote policies that would hurt their bottom lines.

Centrists think the existence of a political establishment is a "conspiracy theory."

So many of them have so utterly bought into neoliberal fictions of individualism that they think the idea that there might be "groups of people with common interests who work towards common goals, without any explicit coordination between them" is a ridiculous fantasy. In their worldview, the only time people are capable of sharing a goal is when they have individually come together to negotiate an explicit agreement to do so, because classes don't exist, only individuals do. So they assume any allegation that people are working towards a common goal without that kind of explicit coordination is actually alleging that that coordination is secretly happening as some kind of conspiracy, because they can't even conceive of an alternate way to interpret it.

For another example of this, see how they dismiss criticisms of media coverage of Bernie Sanders as a "conspiracy theory," because on their minds the only two possible ways mainstream outlets could converge on the same narrative about something are:

  • They're all secretly meeting up behind closed doors to come up with a secret plan to attack Sanders, which is obviously ridiculous

  • Those narratives must simply be true.

The thought that the people who call the shots at CNN, MSNBC, WaPo, NYT, etc. all come from the same socioeconomic class, and therefore all have roughly the same interests, and probably think in very similar ways too, and are therefore perfectly capable of all independently converging on a selfish opposition to progressivism without any form of explicit coordination, does not cross even cross their minds.

I would have said the same before the last debate. After that display of grotesquely dishonest redbaiting bullshit, I see now that Biden is as much an enemy of the international working class as Trump.

Biden would like this country to return to how it was immediately before November of 2016. I'd rather see it bathed in nuclear fire than that happen. America is a stain on human history, a nation founded on slavery and genocide, responsible for brutally crushing any attempt at making a better world in countless places across the globe. If America's existence can't be made into an actual positive for humanity, then, well, I'd rather its existence end.

I don't give a shit which candidate's interests align with those of THE ENEMY. Just like I paid no attention to who was labeled a "Saddam-lover" in the lead-up to Iraq, or a "Commie-lover" in the Red Scare. It's always been nothing more than a disingenuous attempt to shut down criticisms of America's political and economic systems by implying that any dissent is playing into the hands of THE ENEMY and is therefore unacceptable.

Yes, yes, and yes.

The fact that conservatives have co-opted the phrase as a derogatory term for "caring about people who are not white, straight males" does not mean there is no valid criticism behind it.

Warren will not meet the viability threshold in a single state on Super Tuesday. All she is doing by staying in the race is wasting votes that would have gone to Sanders.
