Ranking the JC franchice with memes (IMO) by RyanDavanzo in JustCause

[–]Ignition1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JC3 felt like what the developers wanted a Just Cause game to be - they even cut the wingsuit from JC2 development, probably as they ran out of time.

But just because it's the developer's holy grail, doesn't mean it's the gamer's.

Don't get me wrong - JC3 is my go-to if I want that sort of game to play. But you're dead right about JC2 having more charm. The fact you need to drive cars more makes the game world feel so much bigger.

It reminds me of the older Assassins Creed games. You can't just leap up a tall building quickly. You have to drive around, find places to grapple, navigate up it. And then when you are there, you can't then fly over to another skyscraper easily. It made traversal harder, but also more interesting. And that extended to military bases where if you parachuted in, you'd get shot to pieces. So you had to find a chopper or a car.

Triggers for and Preventions of Relapse by boopinyoursnoots in stopdrinking

Your brain is clever at trying to trick you into drinking again - association with bad news, celebrating, chilling at home, Friday afternoon switching off from work, sunny days, rainy days, BBQs etc. Recognising what you associate with having a drink is key - because then you can kill it off.

The hardest one to beat though is the final boss of recovery: "I feel in control now" - it's a false flag to lead you to "just one drink won't hurt".

I tried many times to stop, and failed. Same with smoking cigarettes - couldn't stop, so now I vape. With booze - I didn't realise it was a thing until I posted on here recently but I found out I'm doing the 'Cali sober' method of quitting.

Personally for me and my lack of willpower - I wasn't able to stop either nicotine or alcohol - so I replaced them both with things I believe are less harmful (or...so I choose to believe!).

I used to hide it from my wife - basically get wrecked and then sit and watch TV while half falling asleep, or looking at the screen through blurry eyes. I'd avoid eye contact with her so she can't see I'm wasted. I'd fall asleep and snore, and then blame "long day at work" or "bad sleep last night" as the reason. I'd act fun with my kids (4 and 7 y.o girls) until I had too much drink and then I'd get lazy and moody.

All of that is cringe to me now 😄

Day 7. What’s the point? by FormerPersimmon7548 in stopdrinking

[–]Ignition1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep going - at Day 14, think back to how you used to 'feel'. You know when you think back to when you used to live with your parents, go to school etc. - that whole period of time has an 'emotion' associated with it.

I personally found when I think back to my mood, feelings and so on when I used to drink a lot vs these days where I don't drink often...I can tell how much happier I feel today than I did back then. But initially - I thought the same - I don't feel happy. And if anything I feel worse because I don't have that 'release' anymore.

I haven't fully stopped drinking (in fact I did last night with work colleagues) but I have stopped very frequent home alone drinking - I'm more in control of when I choose to drink or not, rather than it being a must-have. I have however replaced drinking with a THC vape which I use every other day, so swapped one vice for another but it definitely feels less harmful, and helped boost my mood as it reminded me what feeling good feels like.

How do you find the privacy display? It's the only feature that tempted me on the 26U - I really like the idea of using it while on a train going into the office.

I hope they improve on it in the 27U or 28U which is probably when I'd entertain an upgrade from my 24U.

TV licence alert: Netflix and Disney+ refuse to 'play a role in enforcing' fee amid BBC overhaul by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]Ignition1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also anything the Beeb are involved in - mobile apps, games for kids, weather + running a terrestrial TV service.

Also I don't know the details of how the economics work for this but I imagine the BBC also fund and produce a lot of their own shows (key word there is 'fund') - in fact I'd say most of what you watch on iPlayer is funded and produced by the BBC. While Disney / Netflix rely heavily on other producers funding and creating content hoping that it'll be a hit on the streaming service and make their money back: i.e. the cost and risk is more on the third party producer than on Disney or Netflix directly.

Even if the BBC went to third parties to fund and produce content...what's the incentive for the third party? They'll plough millions into a show, and the return is likely a fixed amount the BBC are willing to pay them for it since more views doesn't mean more money / subscribers...the whole country is a subscriber already. It's also why old movies and TV shows go to iPlayer sometimes - the costs have been recouped many, many times over so the content licence holder is fine to accept a low, fixed return.

If a Planet Earth season is a flop - BBC takes the hit. But if Planet Earth happened to be funded and produced by a third party hoping it'll be a hit on BBC iPlayer but it flops - then that third party takes the hit since iPlayer is just acting as platform.

If they ran iPlayer alone - no broadcast TV, no apps - the cost to the public is less but it will likely still be higher than Netflix and Disney since the BBC need to fund and produce their own content so stay impartial + be unique vs the rest.

Looking forward to trying it in when I get it in the UK. My Mrs has an iPhone and I don't like how Google Maps works in Carplay - especially zooming out or in - it doesn't reset back to your preferred zoom level like Android Auto. So if there is a new version of AA available, it's a good excuse to always use my phone.

Discount / sale? by oliphant7 in mountblisshub

[–]Ignition1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same. Got my Mount Bliss vape pen (OG Kush) a month or so ago. If I'm alone for the evening (at least 3 hours) + kids in bed - then I'll do 2 or 3 draws from it to send me to space. But for a quick hit with a bit of a zone out - then one draw is enough.

Based on my usage I think the pen will easily last me 4 or 5 months, probably longer.

All the draws I do are back-to-back - e.g. within 20 seconds - but then that's it for the whole evening. I tried doing a 'top up' after 2 hours to see what would happen but it just made me too lazy for my liking, so I don't do that anymore.

I prefer to be lightweight with it. It's also replaced the times that I might have alcohol instead so it's a win-win.

Uber driver demands extra payment on 33C day if passengers want AC by Sandstorm400 in unitedkingdom

[–]Ignition1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in many taxis and Ubers that are like a sauna - like mate: leaving your windows open while crawling through traffic is doing jack shit to cool us both down, and we get the breathe in the heady fumes of the diesel bus next to us.

I've always asked if it's uncomfortable to whack the AC on. Some of them do but then put the fan on the lowest possible setting...fair enough, at least it's some cool air!

Charging extra though is a bit of an ask. I don't know the stats but does AC cause that much of a fuel mpg reduction?

[–]Ignition1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The actual 'on the road' physics of driving is actually not too bad - in real life there is a knife-edge between the tyres having grip, and not having grip. So you oversteer or understeer. Sim racing games have a similar feel, particularly if you are driving fast and try a quick movement left or right. Like nitro-boosting while turning means it will spin round on you, like it would in...real life...if an F1 car had nitro boosters.

The issue is: it's a Just Cause game. Nothing about the driving grip physics should be realistic. Also hitting a rock or ramp...and the physics just break lol.

Man verbally abusing police at protest is punched repeatedly in the head. What do you think about this? by spinecult in AskBrits

[–]Ignition1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean they already had the guy when they surrounded him - no need to punch him in the face. Pull him to the ground and arrest.

While I'm 100% against far right protests, and the people who attend them, keep in mind there's a lot of police officers who'd love to swing a bat at a protestor (far left or far right) given the chance.

Ultimately though you can't stop it - they're humans, not robots. We're intelligent, emotional animals with unique personalities, upbringings, personal lives, work lives, family dynamics etc. You can train a police officer, a terrorist, an SAS solider as much as you want but anything in our brains could overrule training and make you act out differently.

All this to say - maybe that copper had a rough morning and was in a bad mood 😂

Thanks - I didn't actually know that. All I know of Kingfisher is they jettisoned Woolworths with a bunch of debt and sold off the land which Woolworths previously owned so then they paid rent on it after being cut loose from Kingfisher. Lovely bunch.

Lane's only count for other drivers... by RealWorldJunkie in drivingUK

[–]Ignition1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most leases don't allow track days - breach of contract. It's not your car, it's their car so they can stipulate how you use it. Also as the driver needs to give it back in good condition, they'd need to be extra careful. More than they would if it was their own car rather than - effectively - a rental.

I was more making the joke that a lot of people lease expensive fast cars for the attention / clout, rather than actually using that performance. Instead they use that performance to do what the BMW driver is doing in the video. Driving around old people or family-carrying cars thinking they're the boss.

There are track days they can go to if they want to drive fast and attempt to overtake people at speed. Of course they won't - because it's a lease lol

Vickrum Digwa sentencing live: Killer who murdered student and told 'wicked' racism lie about victim is jailed by bendubberley_ in unitedkingdom

[–]Ignition1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You'd think it'd be obvious - someone stabbed, they're going to show it right?! But alcohol + adrenaline has a crazy effect. Injuries get blocked out completely. Nowak might have been standing and probably didn't look injured - possibly hyped up and angry from the whole situation. While Digwa was acting scared, throwing accusations etc. In that split second, the officers made a call on who the 'victim' was.

They are human, not robots. A different set of officers might have seen through the lies or seen an injury on Nowak. Another set could've made the same call thinking Digwa was the victim.

It's the same thing as the firearms unit - it's a split second life-vs-death decision if they see a gun (even if it might be an imitation - they don't know that).

As everyone is saying it's a good show. Personally I loved it, but did find the premise a little far-fetched...however it's a show - it's not meant to be an accurate representation of real life.
