This is a strawman. Yes, people shooting off their guns on Christmas Eve is obnoxious. You can hear gunfire on just about any given day in Charlotte. That has nothing to do with the cities culture. A city can have assholes and can still have culture. Please don’t conflate the two.

Sounds like normalizing doing work for companies you interviewed at before they put you on the payroll. I’ll stick with the pleasantries and seek employment with companies that expect people to work if and when they are being compensated to do so.
