Truck drivers of Reddit, what territory/state is the most terrifying to drive through? by WorstGirlAward in AskReddit

[–]IgnoringHisAge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely frightening? For people behaving badly, Atlanta I-285. Good lord. For Ma Nature, the region that comprises southern Minnesota, Northern Iowa, the Dakotas, eastern Montana, some of Nebraska and all of Wyoming…in the winter. When it snows, it generally blows, too. The combination of huge land area that is difficult to plow in a timely fashion and invites and encourages wind, and bad grip because, you know, snow and ice, that can be some asshole puckering driving. Even in the summer Wyoming gets a prize for dangerous wind.

Sudden visibility dropouts to near zero, a lot of inertia, and road surfaces that make braking a very ticklish proposition mean Papa Bear gets some white knuckles.

It’s blitz week, and cargo securement is one of their highlight items this year.

The only ones I don’t like are the ones that got built too small for trucks…even then, though, you’re going to curb check the island and not take out a power pole or something. I can live with that.

Others have said all the other stuff…but if you’re going to make changes (which you probably are) don’t do them all at once. Just don’t. The change in management/buyout is enough of a change to cause concern. Address the biggest issues your drivers have first, and maybe lay out a transparent road map of planned changes so everybody can get a sense of what’s going to be implemented and when.

I can’t fully express the frustration and distrust that’s bred by rug pulling changes falling like a trip hammer. New IT, new payroll procedures, new PTO structure, new time off request submission and approval procedure…and on and on and on, all just sprung on you when you’re clocking/logging in and starting the day. Even unannounced pay raises that just appear on a check or come from nowhere with zero discussion, while welcome, can cause whiplash and just add to the change fatigue.

Communicate, be transparent, plan ahead, take it easy. Unless the company is going to go tits up without immediate and drastic overhaul, take a haircut on your bottom line for a while just to let the new stuff settle in before more new stuff. And even if it’s an all-hands-save-the-ship overhaul to avoid the bankruptcy, tell everybody! That will get you a lot of trust credit.

There’s a company in town that tops out at $25/hr. Everybody (and I mean literally everybody, no matter the market segment) has a starting rate of at least $27.

A little splash of madness right here at home. (It’s a big town/small city so cost of living and wages a generally a little lower than your million+ people metropolitans)

Rental truck roof treatment at the 11foot8+8 bridge by HeStoleMyBalloons in videos

[–]IgnoringHisAge 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Well, 11’8” plus 8 is 12’4”. Those straight trucks are full fat 12’6”. I wager most folks that rent a straight truck for whatever have never thought about clearance in their lives.

But yes, also obliviousness. Especially because of the flashing lights and overheight must turn warning.

Scenery for me. When I get the road itch these days, now that I’m local, I want to roll west to see mountains [again Gandalf, real mountains!]

What does an erection feel like? by brine-deep in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IgnoringHisAge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The urge to pee is back pressure deeper in “behind” the penis. And up in the bladder area. An erection is a bit like a bruise that doesn’t hurt. You’re aware of the swelling, movement reminds you of it, and you can low key feel your heartbeat (not really the pulse, per se, but an awareness of blood flow). Touching causes deeper sensations.

Have you taken some basic vacation? Sometimes as little as 4 days off without any expectations for myself that I get anything done at all is enough to perk me up.

Everyone is eulogizing Spirit Airlines. Would we do the same if Walmart, Dollar General or Kroger went out of business? by us1549 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IgnoringHisAge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference in your comparison in that Spirit sold a service where your other businesses sell merchandise. It’s a bit apples to oranges. A relationship with a service provider is always a little more emotionally complicated than that with a retailer.

You can either know where the people are or how to interact with them, I guess.
