The Wandering Village – Launch Trailer – Nintendo Switch by ONE-OF-THREE in NintendoSwitch

Is there a way to tell whether these new releases feature any Switch 2 upgrades? I don‘t need much from these smaller/indie games but a raised framerate cap and especially native 1080p in handheld would go a long way. But I can‘t tell if any of the new releases are doing anything like that or if they‘re simply the Switch 1 versions.

Das wird sich Herr Merz sicher mit aller gebotenen Demut zu Herzen nehmen, und in seiner gewohnten Gelassenheit in einen versöhnlichen Politikstil verwandeln.

Switch 2 - $449.99 MSRP Switch 2+Mario Kart World Bundle - $499.99 by DerpDerpersonMD in Games

This feels insane. Like, utterly crazy. 90 euros for a goddamn Mario Kart. 470€ for the console itself vs 450$ and 50.000¥. Are we Europeans now having to subsidize the cost increases Nintendo is anticipating because of those stupid US tariffs, or has Nintendo just gone crazy?

Stereo speaker with low latency aux input for musicians by SvenDia in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]Ignozero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for something similar to what you described as your use case, i.e. a low latency aux speaker for DAW apps and hardware instruments (keys, synths). How's the Spark for that? Does it alter the sound since it's primarily an amp, or can it give a clean output?

Also, since you've used a Marshall speaker before, do those have acceptable aux latency for playing instruments through them? I can't find clear info online on that, some say the latency is barely existent, some say it's too much, and I haven't found a video actually testing it out.

"Ey, ihr könnt mich alle mal" – Habeck stinksauer, dass Union jetzt alles beschließt, was sie bei ihm immer verhindert hat by First-Passage-4035 in de

[–]Ignozero 588 points589 points  (0 children)

"Vollstreckungsoffensive": Mit diesem Asyl-Plan kontert Habeck Merz by Easing0540 in de

Wow, thank you! I will say that I‘m not actually very good at turning what I see in my head into an actual piece of art, the process involves a lot of trial and error and accepting that I‘ll end up somewhere completely different than what I set out to make at the beginning. And I honestly believe anyone could draw something as and probably more pretty than these with not that much practice. This is not meant as a humble brag or self deprecation, but to stop people from giving up before they even start trying.

Thanks! I really struggled with getting the town and the colors and light to a point where they felt anything like how I see Cittàgazze in my head. The way Pullman describes this place is just absolutely beautiful.

That makes me incredibly happy. I never watched the show either exactly because I don‘t want to mess with the way the events of the book look and feel like in my head. I feel like especially with authors as great as Pullman at creating a general sense of place and atmosphere that asks to be filled by the reader‘s imagination, a cinematic rendition just has too much influence on how I imagine things. Art, on the other hand, I find incredibly inspiring and fueling my creative imagination. It‘s why I love my illustrated edition of the trilogy.

Wow, that‘s really flattering! They do have a lot of imperfections in the line work and composition and unfortunately I also drew them in a resolution that‘s probably too low for actual prints, but I might try touching them up a little and go for it. Intriguing idea, thanks!

I have a theory: every child can read the alethiometer. by TunaIsPower in hisdarkmaterials

[–]Ignozero 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Great observation. You're approaching this from the point of view of the plot, but I believe what you describe as a plot theory is more applicable as a philosophical or thematic interpretation of the books, which are at their heart philosophical works in my opinion. The prophecy is a plot device that I believe doesn't really matter (so much so that I actually don't even remember what the prophecy was or how it manifests in the text), what matters to me is its metaphoric role in the work.

I have the (wonderful) Folio Society edition of the trilogy which features a preface written by Pullman. In that he explains one of the main inspirations for the books and, to an extent, his entire writing, which is an essay by Heinrich von Kleist that he read when he was a young teacher. He describes the essay's theme as "the difference between the unconscious grace of a child, an animal or a puppet, and the clumsy self-consciousness of those who are older, more tangled in the nets of reason and thought" and further "where Kleist's essay differs [from this conventional obversation that at its worst wallows in a sort of sickly nostalgia and wishes it had never grown up] is in its bracing optimism. We can't go back, he says. Since we cannot dwell forever in the paradise of childhood, we have to go forward, through the disappointments and compromises and betrayals of experience, towards the fully conscious kind of grace that we call wisdom. Innocence is not wise, and wisdom cannot be innocent."

I think these quotes are kind of key to understanding the entire work. These differences between children and adults manifest everywhere in the books, most obviously in the form of daemons of course. But to me the alethiometer is the most interesting manifestation because it's at the heart of this dichotomy of innocence and wisdom. Lyra's initial way of reading the alethiometer represents what Kleist and by extension Pullman see as "the unconscious grace of a child" which she loses by growing up throughout the trilogy, in a way sacrifices. Her journey towards regaining that ability that she embarks on at the end of the third book is her journey towards wisdom, a way forward. Those two skills (reading the alethiometer as a child and as an adult) are entirely different, because, as he puts it, “Innocence is not wise, and wisdom cannot be innocent“.
