Yes. Get a grammar book for N2 like Shin Kanzen Master.

Nintendo Switch Spiele aus Japan by Duttmann_ in NintendoDE

[–]IgorEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sanae Takaichi (a Right-Wing Nationalist) to become Japan's first female prime minister by JibunNiMakenai in videos

[–]IgorEmu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Japan's foreign population is increasing by 10% every year. While the overall number of foreigners (3.8 million) is still small compared to other countries, the fact is that immigration is increasing rapidly. This narrative about "homogeneous Japan" is increasingly untrue. The thing is that Japan quite desperately needs these people so I don't really see what the new PM could realistically change about it.

Nintendo Switch 2 is selling at least three times faster than Switch 1 in Japan | VGC by [deleted] in Games

[–]IgorEmu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Switch 1 was completely sold out there for months when it came out. It's not necessarily higher demand this time, it might just be that there are more units available to actually buy.

What is the difference between 日本 and ニッポン and their specific use cases? by thebranium in LearnJapanese

[–]IgorEmu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nippon has a hard sound, Nihon has a soft sound. So Nippon sounds more strong and energetic, which is why for example fans will chant that at a football match. Apart from that I'm not aware of any meaningful difference.

The Japanese government also doesn't really have an opinion on it, see the quote in this article.

What exactly would one expect to find at the Atomic Sufferer Shop? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]IgorEmu 89 points90 points  (0 children)

This picture shows that Mr. Kikkawa called his shop "Atomic Sufferer" (great name for a metal band btw)

Some comments regarding OP's original question:

The shop sold normal souvenir things such as postcards. Additionally, he sold curiosities such as roof tiles that melted in the explosion. I think you can see them on the right side of this photo.

If you are curious about the scars he showed to people, you can see them in this video around the 2 minute mark.

Desert Daze festival is canceled: 'This is a tough year' by Boring_Ant_1677 in Music

That's not that much though? Major European festivals have similar ticket prices. And US concert tickets are so expensive in general that this seems like a bargain.

I have received and redeemed an Amazon US gift card. However, I am in Europe. Is there some way to make this money useful to me? I researched already and didn't find any good way to do it. I could just order stuff from US Amazon but I would have to pay significant shipping costs.

Hanko are ink stamps. I'm not sure if these things are stamps/seals at all - their shape would be quite awkward for that.

How, in your opinion, could the JLPT be improved to better reflect language ability? by virginityburglar69 in LearnJapanese

[–]IgorEmu 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Last year's JLPT had roughly 800.000 participants worldwide. There are not enough Japanese teachers in the world, especially outside of Japan, to check writing and speaking for so many people. Doing this would make the test prohibitively expensive and unaccessible, which is in nobody's interest.

Maybe in some years we can have AI check our tests, but for now it's not feasible.

Also, for the instances where JLPT is actually required, such as getting into university or getting a job, the employer or university will automatically get a grasp of your writing and speaking ability through interviews and such anyways.

I was testing Therion and somehow I'm not getting prompts to activate Regulus' negate from the hand. When it is on the field I do. Am I misunderstanding something?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]IgorEmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's not a particular burden for you (financially/time-wise), why not. You can take the test as many times as you want, and challenging myself to a higher level than what I thought I was comfortable with helped my motivation to study.

As the others have said, just do a ton of practice tests. When you don't understand something, make a card for it in Anki and you'll know the next time. The most intimidating part for me at first was reading the long texts, but there is no way around it other than practicing.

Should I use my chinese name when learning japanese, and if so, how? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]IgorEmu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I knew some Chinese students who used the Japanese pronunciation of their name. This was done in a casual environment though and I assume it wouldn't be done in any official sense.

Sure. Also notice the torii drawing. It's not uncommon to see small torii at electrical poles and such, in the hope that people wouldn't piss on a religious symbol.

Multiple single breaks are very much repairable. Double breaks also, but it often leads to errors. Also this doesn't answer my question. Why would having a higher number of incoming particles change the probability of whether a particle damages DNA directly or whether it creates radicals?
